GP blogger, IWX writes, "If a link does indeed exist between violent video games and aggression, it is important to establish why this relationship occurs. There are various theories that aim to explain the relationship, and one of the key ones is the Social Learning Theory (SLT). Developed in the 1960s, SLT states that children learn how to behave from their environment, and that they can learn behaviours simply by watching other people performing them (known as vicarious learning). The behaviour can also be reinforced if it is rewarded. It can easily be seen how this can be applied to violent video games. The entire aim of violent video games is to commit violent acts in order to gain a reward. Obviously, it is not as simple as monkey see, monkey do or we would all be running around shooting prostitutes and collecting rings in an attempt to stay alive."
