... let's just hope none of the cut-scenes will be cut.

mephman3793d ago

Haha, I see what you did there. Hopefully Sega's assurances will hold true this time around.

Lord of the Rings be damned that's a lot. I'm all about original voice overs "and" no cutting :p

Producer Masayoshi Kikuchi has already mentioned in that:

"Yakuza 4" will fare better; it will include every element of the Japanese original except an impenetrable Japanese general-knowledge quiz game called "Answer × Answer."

So no I don't think any of the cut-scenes will be cut along with any other content besides that.

Yi-Long3793d ago

... but they kinda said the same thing about Yakuza 3, that the quiz and 'only' the hosting stuff was cut, and it turned out a bunch more side-quests were cut as well.

So TBH, I'm not taking Sega's word over this just yet.

Also, I would have liked to have seen the quiz remain in there. You don't HAVE to do the quiz, so for anyone finding it 'impenetrable', they can just skip it, for all 'japanophiles', it would have been a nice addition.

Agree'd it would've been a nice addition just like having the Japanese Box art over the NA and U.K. versions.

in Y3 the sidequests cuts were tied to the hosting process ..
Now this issue will be solved because they are back ..i can live without answer X answer obvously

I don't see what the big appeal is for the Yakuza games.
I played parts of the third one and some of the ones on PS2 and while for PS2 games they were pretty decent, on the PS3 they just feel very very dated.
Am I missing something?

nycredude3793d ago (Edited 3793d ago )

Definitely you missing something.

The Yakuza games are all about the story and the connection you build with the characters. yeah sure the mechanics are last gen, and the graphics aren't the best but it more than makes up for it with compelling story lines, tongue in cheek humor, and tons of content, all delivered with a lot of heart. Not to mention it just so bad ass when you are stomping faces in!

One minute you can be helping an old lady retrieve her purse from a robber, next minute you are eating ramen noodles with a orphaned girl, then you are taking a picture of funny ass situation to gain more skills, then you are stomping faces in, hitting in a batting cage, filming a movie, stomping more faces, fighting a ludicrous boss battle.

THAT is the beauty of these games. You just don't know WTF is going to happen and when.

It's more or less an acquired taste is the only way I can describe it.

I personally fell in love with Shenmue on the Dreamcast (Heart still broken about it being it ending in a cliff hanger along with Viewtiful Joe). So when I discovered the Yakuza series it was pretty much a dream come true for me with every iteration of the series it feels like its becoming more and more of a spiritual successor to Shenmue (Not surprising since the game's Designer / Producer Toshihiro Nagoshi was a supervisor for Shenmue).

In which I got to say along with Shenmue and Yakuza as epically awesome I think these games are they are not really for everybody. I recall Gamespot reviewing Shenmue expressing alot of boredom for them while they are playing.

I recently talked to a guy who thought the Yakuza series was pretty much a GTA clone. Glad I could educate him on what it really was :D.

All I can really say is if its not for you, then its not for you. No harm done right?

The fact that I got two very well spoken, non-demeaning, explanations about the good things about this series surprises me to no end. Especially on this site.

I genuinely expected to be blasted out of the water for not understanding the appeal. Instead I got understanding and actual responses. Bubbles to both of you. This actually makes me want to retry the series.

Yep, gameplay and graphics looks and feels dated. But it's the story, the ass kicking, etc... i dont know, it's hard to explain.

so hideo kojima is secretly producing this one?

Pozzle3793d ago (Edited 3793d ago )

If Kojima was producing it, they'd have to triple the number of hours. :D

tweex3793d ago

Holy crap....I didn't know Yakuza was going the way of MGS :).

OllieBoy3793d ago

Glad to hear it. What I expect from another awesome Yakuza game :)

Selyah3793d ago

Absolutely cannot wait for this.

Sanrin3793d ago

I think more games should be twice/three times as long as modern movies. Justifies the cost a bit more eh?
