Steam Beta Update Adds Screenshot Functionality

Valve today added an oft-requested feature to its Steam client: the ability to take screenshots without use of an external application such as FRAPS. Users can snap shots simply by pressing F12. From there, shots will be automatically uploaded to the Steam Cloud depending on settings, allowing friends and other visitors to your public profile page to view. Alternatively, users can opt to manually upload images. Nearly all titles are supported, apart from those that rely on legacy DirectX libraries — DX8 or earlier.

Steam just gets better and better all the time. Goodbye FRAPS!

Also they give you 1 gig of cloud space just for pictures. VALVE IS AWESOME!

Until steam can recored 2560x1600 60 frame videos and bench my games...fraps stays.

Dr Face Doctor2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

Well, most Source-powered games can do that better than FRAPS can, ya know...

I doubt your system can record 1600p60, Fraps or not. That's 0.7 gigabytes of video data per second. On top of running the game.

I was recording 60 frame 1080p footage on my [email protected] and my gtx280

Now with my [email protected] and my oc480, i'm pretty sure I could record 1600p ;)

1920x1080 has 2.07 megapixels.
2560x1600 has 4.1 megapixels.

The bottleneck is not your CPU/GPU but your hard drive. If you recorded 1080p60 without dropped frames you must be recording to either an SSD or a RAID.

@Dr Face, they can? How, I never knew that.

Ducky2816d ago (Edited 2816d ago )

I believe the source engine has a demo recorder.

Same goes for the CoD-engine (they just popularized the whole theater-mode with BlOps, but the functionality was there from the start)
