well, things will keep getting worse/better depending on how you look at it.

For me, they'll only be getting worse. Why does anyone need to run stuff on a console they aren't supposed to do so?

digitalivan5201d ago

Hmmm, maybe because I bought it?

cyborg5201d ago

I bought a gun, so does that mean I am free to shoot anyone I please without having to worry about the consequences?

It's somewhat a similar case over here. Hacking the PS3, would mean less revenue for the creators which in terms will harm the consumers as they won't get the quality that they deserve. It would also harm the devs of exclusive PS3 titles and we may see a decline of that aswell. Needless, to say countless other things.

The whole

"I can do anything with it since I bought it" is purely subjective and although I won't complain anyone who thinks that way, for me that notion is totally retarded to say the least

wwm0nkey5201d ago

@cyborg

Please NEVER compare hacking to killing a person with a gun....I mean come on man.

You used an product to harm other people. I use mods to alter my gameplay?
And any misuses , like piracy, should be sanctioned by the law, not by Sony, just like in the case of the gun factory.

I_find_it_funny5201d ago

whats so bad about mods in offline games

yess5201d ago

Modding should be possible on consoles offline.
But sony should be the one to ad this feature, and not the hackers.

RememberThe3575201d ago (Edited 5201d ago )

Sony allows it. Unreal Tournament 3 has modding. It's up to developers to implement it and Epic is the only one to do so.

But on the topic, this is the kind of hacking I like. This stuff it cool, but pirating games and cheating online? The positives don't out weight the negatives for me.

Inside_out5201d ago

You want to hack a game it should be at your expense and not anyone else's. I don't get these guys??? Why should I have to put up with this crap??? If I go on line for some gaming fun with my friends, why do you think you have the right to ruin it.

I ALWAYS defend the right of people to use there systems any way they want BUT not when it effects other people in a negative way. It's like anything else in life.

I have no idea why Sony can't ban these kids for life from their systems and render there PS3 useless on line...like M$ has started doing with the 360. see how fun it is to play by yourselves. It's coming, it's only a matter of time.

ravinash5201d ago (Edited 5201d ago )

If it were a simple thing of allowing to run mod for a single player game, then I wouldn't have a problem with that.
But it won't stop there will it. There will be people who don't want to work for the best guns in COD, so that will get hacked.
And there will be people who want to play games for free, so that will be hacked to.
So I don't really enjoy when I get on line and cheaters kill me as soon as I sporn or if less games are being made or has less quality because no as many people are paying for the game.

I'm sure sony would think the same, but once you open the gate to allow the single player changes, all these other thing just follow in behind.

Re: cyborg

Your comparison of hacking a PS3 to gun violence is one of the worst analogies ever.

You buy the gun, and you can do anything you want with it as long as it doesn't harm others.

Rooting hardware that you own does not harm others. Installing mods and custom firmwares does not harm others.

Rooting does not mean piracy. I really hate how platform partisans on N4G keep on supporting the rights of multinationals over the rights of consumers.

People who have rooted their PS3s can now enjoy the fruits of the wonderful PC mod scene. They now have a better experience than those who just QQ.

Lazyeye795201d ago

You're right you should be able to hack and run custom stuff on the PS3 because you bought it, but what about those "Pirated Games" your most likely playing, did you pay for those? didn't think so.

I'm all good with running homemade stuff on a console (I do it with the NDS) but when you start pirating and using it to cheat online, your console should be bricked, not banned, but bricked.

this will only work on CFW from the 3.55 update now though so anyone that updated wil not be able to do this :)

booni35201d ago

It's a plain shame that this is how PS3 owners have to get mods.

xAlmostPro5201d ago

not really, everyone knows sony were and are(to developers) very open about the platform.. im pretty sure if the developers went to sony they could come up with a system that allowed MODS anyway..

valve will be having cross platform gaming and steamworks..

these devs could easily make a system i dunno that maybe users submit a mod and then the developers review and verify it before uploading it for download.. its a possibility.. these hacks are in a sense just making the ps3 "less open"

TOSgamer5201d ago

@cyborg

No, but feel free to shoot yourself. I wouldn't mind.

digitalivan5201d ago

@Lazyeye79
Did you read what I said? Piracy is stealing, and should be punished.

This is completely awesome. Now I really hope they get GTA mods running on PS3.

Just look at the crazy stuff you could do with San Andreas.

zeksta5201d ago

Ah, You'll be happy to know they've made some progress :D

I think I seen a mod like this on the 360 a while back.

darkdoom30005201d ago

One of the advantages of hacking. Good to see something good among all this online cheating and whatnot.

Viper75201d ago (Edited 5201d ago )

Yeah, to think that Bethesda could have made away to do this legally and didn't just makes me feel bad about how developers cut corners.

I mean if random basement coders can apply mods to Ps3 version of a game what could a company do?

flyingmunky5201d ago

I'm surprised that there has not been more official mod packages to go with games on the ps3. The only one I can think of off hand was Unreal Tournament 3. Its also the only game I can recall having keyboard/mouse support too.

I guess developers are afraid of losing sales for their DLC packs. Still its kinda sad when the mod community could be so big for the ps3.
