PSB writes: The hacking scene is abuzz with reports that you can now run PC mods for both Elders Scroll: Oblivion and Fallout 3 on your PS3.
well, things will keep getting worse/better depending on how you look at it. For me, they'll only be getting worse. Why does anyone need to run stuff on a console they aren't supposed to do so?
Hmmm, maybe because I bought it?
I bought a gun, so does that mean I am free to shoot anyone I please without having to worry about the consequences? It's somewhat a similar case over here. Hacking the PS3, would mean less revenue for the creators which in terms will harm the consumers as they won't get the quality that they deserve. It would also harm the devs of exclusive PS3 titles and we may see a decline of that aswell. Needless, to say countless other things. The whole "I can do anything with it since I bought it" is purely subjective and although I won't complain anyone who thinks that way, for me that notion is totally retarded to say the least
@cyborg Please NEVER compare hacking to killing a person with a gun....I mean come on man.
@cyborg "I bought a gun, so does that mean I am free to shoot anyone I please without having to worry about the consequences?" You used an product to harm other people. I use mods to alter my gameplay? And any misuses , like piracy, should be sanctioned by the law, not by Sony, just like in the case of the gun factory.
whats so bad about mods in offline games
Modding should be possible on consoles offline. But sony should be the one to ad this feature, and not the hackers.
Sony allows it. Unreal Tournament 3 has modding. It's up to developers to implement it and Epic is the only one to do so. But on the topic, this is the kind of hacking I like. This stuff it cool, but pirating games and cheating online? The positives don't out weight the negatives for me.
You want to hack a game it should be at your expense and not anyone else's. I don't get these guys??? Why should I have to put up with this crap??? If I go on line for some gaming fun with my friends, why do you think you have the right to ruin it. I ALWAYS defend the right of people to use there systems any way they want BUT not when it effects other people in a negative way. It's like anything else in life. I have no idea why Sony can't ban these kids for life from their systems and render there PS3 useless on line...like M$ has started doing with the 360. see how fun it is to play by yourselves. It's coming, it's only a matter of time.
If it were a simple thing of allowing to run mod for a single player game, then I wouldn't have a problem with that. But it won't stop there will it. There will be people who don't want to work for the best guns in COD, so that will get hacked. And there will be people who want to play games for free, so that will be hacked to. So I don't really enjoy when I get on line and cheaters kill me as soon as I sporn or if less games are being made or has less quality because no as many people are paying for the game. I'm sure sony would think the same, but once you open the gate to allow the single player changes, all these other thing just follow in behind.
Re: cyborg Your comparison of hacking a PS3 to gun violence is one of the worst analogies ever. You buy the gun, and you can do anything you want with it as long as it doesn't harm others. Rooting hardware that you own does not harm others. Installing mods and custom firmwares does not harm others. Rooting does not mean piracy. I really hate how platform partisans on N4G keep on supporting the rights of multinationals over the rights of consumers. People who have rooted their PS3s can now enjoy the fruits of the wonderful PC mod scene. They now have a better experience than those who just QQ.
You're right you should be able to hack and run custom stuff on the PS3 because you bought it, but what about those "Pirated Games" your most likely playing, did you pay for those? didn't think so. I'm all good with running homemade stuff on a console (I do it with the NDS) but when you start pirating and using it to cheat online, your console should be bricked, not banned, but bricked.
this will only work on CFW from the 3.55 update now though so anyone that updated wil not be able to do this :)
It's a plain shame that this is how PS3 owners have to get mods.
not really, everyone knows sony were and are(to developers) very open about the platform.. im pretty sure if the developers went to sony they could come up with a system that allowed MODS anyway.. valve will be having cross platform gaming and steamworks.. these devs could easily make a system i dunno that maybe users submit a mod and then the developers review and verify it before uploading it for download.. its a possibility.. these hacks are in a sense just making the ps3 "less open"
@cyborg No, but feel free to shoot yourself. I wouldn't mind.
@Lazyeye79 Did you read what I said? Piracy is stealing, and should be punished.
This is completely awesome. Now I really hope they get GTA mods running on PS3. http://www.youtube.com/watc... Just look at the crazy stuff you could do with San Andreas.
Ah, You'll be happy to know they've made some progress :D http://www.youtube.com/watc...
I think I seen a mod like this on the 360 a while back.
One of the advantages of hacking. Good to see something good among all this online cheating and whatnot.
Yeah, to think that Bethesda could have made away to do this legally and didn't just makes me feel bad about how developers cut corners. I mean if random basement coders can apply mods to Ps3 version of a game what could a company do?
I'm surprised that there has not been more official mod packages to go with games on the ps3. The only one I can think of off hand was Unreal Tournament 3. Its also the only game I can recall having keyboard/mouse support too. I guess developers are afraid of losing sales for their DLC packs. Still its kinda sad when the mod community could be so big for the ps3.
see thats use of hacking through that they could infact unofficially patch a game that was broken and still sold to millions of ps3 owners
The ends don't justify the means. Let's not pretend that 95% of the people exploiting the hack won't do it for piracy.
this site is getting perfetic it seems only intrested in promoting hacking ,
learn to spell much?
"learn to spell much?" And you should learn some grammar.
Even though there has been alot of "bad" hacking i.e. cheating in Modern Warfare 2 etc there has also been some interesting hacking for example I was playing Modern Warfare 2 last night I joined a lobby which used similar rules to that in Black Ops Gun Game mode, there was no cheating just an interesting take on a game mode from another game implemented in MW2, I don't promote hacking but for every good and interesting thing that can be achieved theres always an idiot who will use it to their own selfish advantage which makes it annoying for people playing online, the hack in this video is something that wouldn't bother me as its an offline game anything to do with online however would.
Hell, let me mod real cars, aircraft, billboards, weapons and clothes for the GTA series on the PS3 and I'm sold!!
Did anyone else hear the occasional heavy breathing of a greasy fat kid touching himself, in the video that is.
Now, if someone would make a hack, so I could get back my save files from my YLOD PS3 and use them on my new slim, THAT would be awsome. I had hudreds of hours invested in Oblivion, Fallout and Demon Souls :(
i lost all my data like twice literally mad hours spent in many stupid copyrighted games that would back up all lost because of the other os remover update didnt install correctly
I feel your pain. My refurb 60 gig died just a few weeks ago. Fortunately I had just put in a new hard drive 2 months ago and I still have the data backup on my external drive. Its sucks because once I get my new slim console I will have spent over 1000 dollars on the consoles by alone! You could always try the heat gun trick that is on youtube. Should give you enough time to back your data up. Just bear in mind that it has to be a fullblown system restore to get your Demon's souls data, its copy protected.
Yeah, I know about DS copyright. The problem is, I don't have a digital heat gun. And buying it is expensive where I live, atleast the saves don't outweight the cost :(
Hate the hacking on PS3 at the moment, but I'll be honest, I do like that they have enabled PC-mods for Oblivion, is really fascinating. A rare good use of the PS3 hacks. I think the negative outweigh the positives by a long shot still.
One other bonus is that you don't need a BLU-RAY to run games. Like my friend, his ps3 also YLOD, but he got it fixed only to find out that the drive had died. So now he can't get CFW to run games straigh from HDD.
...which is pirating, which is one of the negatives on his list... It won't be so awesome when they stop making exclusives since no one buys them.
Yes, but you could always be square (not in a negative way) and buy the game, and then back it up to you HDD, no? Or atleast play your old games again.
Whilst it's wrong, I don't mind people modding games they legally bought. What I mean though is that I don't agree with Sony, but I don't agree with hackers either. Whilst I feel Sony should allow their platform, the PS3 games, to be more open (Doing this they would actually have to put effort into making an open platform secure, not easy but possible) to things such as offline mods and homebrew games, but closed to things such as piracy. This would: 1. Take away the argument of hackers claiming "They're doing it for homebrew", making it easier to legally charge them. 2. Allow home-brew developers and gamers to do with their consoles what they want, except for piracy.
danm hackers dominate the PS3...
Lol heres a hackers advertisment to his fucked up gaming console that will no longer play the latest games, Will always be a step behind a firmware waiting some speccy geek to come up with a private firmware for online acess. Will use hacks online for his entire gaming life he has only known defeat. Will always be living with the fear in the back of his mind when will what im doing will brick my console?. No thank you. Todays world unless your 15 years old your money is worked for and its hard earnt. Unless your a drug dealer pimp theft?. Its hard come by money if you get something you look after it. Tell you this it would be the same as going down in the morning greeted by a nice big long keying to the side of my Ford, Not the newest car in the world but it cost and i look after the thing. Why would i want to fuck up something i paid for for this bullshit homebrew is free on a pc. Anyone posting here 90% of them have a pc. Use it? As for the hackers ruining other gamers days just because they can. Your just a sad bunch tbh simple as that. Some people like to throw there money away now adays find a charity help cancer are something do something usful.
Niiiiiiiccceeeee can't tell you how much fun the fallout 3 mods on pc are...
Great now I can play the two games that I already own for my PS3, got hackers are getting lamer each day.
I hope this helps nudge Bethesda in to releasing the ability to add legit mods to future games on PS3. PC has a massive advantage when it comes to modding stuff like Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Some of the mods released are fantastic and add a lot the games.
That's actually really cool, that isn't anything malicious. PS3 users get the stuff us PC users take for granted. (Innocent fun mods)
the just released two worlds 2 can also run pc mods this way. it's just a shame this from hacks, i'd love to check this stuff out. modding single player games should be allowed and encouraged. piracy should be handled by the law. and cheating online should be squashed by sony/developers. none of those will happen sadly.
Good luck getting essentials like OBSE and OBMM to get the good mods. A valiant effort, but this doesn't come close to the PC experience. Also it's worth mentioning that mods can adversely affect the performance of the game engine. Since the game is optimized with lower settings for the consoles, it would be ignorant to assume there's no good reason for Bethesda to avoid including mods. They had a tough enough time getting it to RUN without all the extra load tacked on.
