Sony: NGP price will be "affordable"

Eurogamer: "The Next Generation Portable will be "affordable", Sony has promised. "I can't put a ballpark on it in terms of figures, but what I would say is that we will shoot for an affordable price that's appropriate for the handheld gaming space," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss Andrew House told Eurogamer in Tokyo this morning."

affordable is a subjective term these are the guys that thought 250 was affordable for the psp go

SuperLupe2825d ago (Edited 2825d ago )

I see this priced at 399$. Which would make it expensive but not over the top expensive which means "affordable" IMO.

Megaton2825d ago

Nah, $400 is too much, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if they did it. Sony doesn't seem to understand what "affordable" means, or has at least forgotten in recent years. PSP Go was launched at $50 more than it should have. You could probably even argue it was up to $100 overpriced.

$300. Do it.

2825d ago
Sarcasm2825d ago

They should just set it at $250 and go head to head with the 3DS.

I_find_it_funny2825d ago

250 for me, I can wait, more than 250 is too much for me for a handheld

flyingmunky2825d ago

They may go a route where they have two skus again.

Say a 32 GB unit with all the trimmings for 400, and a stripped down 16 GB unit for 300. Choice is always nice so hopefully Sony give us some options.

It would be nice to have one unit that could compete with the 3ds pricing, and still have something even better for the die-hard people like me.

MEsoJD2825d ago

I think it will be 300 at the most. I can't imagine it being more than a ps3.

ABizzel12825d ago

Who knows they might be $199, and $299

or $249 and $349.

It may have carriers since it is a 3G device?

jony_dols2825d ago

This is an extraordinary piece of technoligy.

I would be willing to sacrafice the cost of a new PS3 game or two, to pay £50-£100 extra for this beast.

It's media capabilities alone are worth the cost.

LoVeRSaMa2824d ago

Considering people bought the iPhone for £500 - £600 (myself included) Sony could be looking at about £100 - £200 less to be 'Affordable'

Pacman3212825d ago

If this is 250 il f***ing buy it.

Northtouch2825d ago

Even if they put a £280 price tag, i will be buying that like theres no tommorow.

Fuck it, ill buy it for the £300 if thats what its gonna be.

Eamon2825d ago

3DS is about £200-230. So I'll be guessing PSP2/NGP would be about £270-300.

"Affordable" to the wealthy that is ;)

hay2825d ago

Now we need to narrow down what price range is affordable.
For some 600$ was.

Jezuz2825d ago

please be around $250

Spitfire_Riggz2825d ago

Peep this. He is saying priced appropriately for a handheld. Which means its not the same price as a smartphone or a console. The PS3 right now is 300-400 dollars correct? Lets hope they are thinking ps3 now and not when it launched.

digitalivan2825d ago

I mean seriously, what will happen to 3DS? It's worse in every aspect (specs, battery, price?). It has some good classic games, and nothing more, it's just a gimmick.

Muletroid2825d ago

everyone said the wii was just a gimmick but we all know how bad it flopped right?
everyone said the DS was a gimmick but we all know how bad that flopped right?

lets get serious here no matter how much like the NGP you have to be seriously paranoid if you think the 3DS isn't going to sell

radphil2825d ago (Edited 2825d ago )

"everyone said the wii was just a gimmick but we all know how bad it flopped right? "

Well, technically it is a gimmick.

No one said gimmicks don't sell. People read into things too much.

Like how popular apparently equals good for you.

SuperLupe2825d ago

Dude its Ninty's handhold, it will sell no matter what. Moreover the DS is aimed more at the casual than the PSP2.

dannybohy2825d ago

Personally I think all handhelds are casual! unless your under 10yrs old and arent allowed a console , tv in your room! in which case these things are hardcore 10hrs a day gaming idols!.

Spinal2825d ago (Edited 2825d ago )

^ What Muletroid said. Don't be so flipping fanboy stupid. The 3DS will sell just fine. The NGP is nice also.

However im not interested in either. I dont travel enough on public transport to warrant a handheld gaming device. I drive everywhere i go. So for me my iPhone 4 will be replaced by the Ps Phone.

EYEamNUMBER12825d ago

90% of the time i just use my handhelds at home

to be honest even though they are handhelds the majority of people who own em just play em at home im willing to bet on that

Stealth20k2825d ago (Edited 2825d ago )

Lol its the same battery(3-5 and 4-5 high settings) and it will be way more expensive than the 3ds maybe 100 dollars more, how is that better?

@ below the 3ds is 3-5 hours max brightness, wifi,3d, volume

adjusting settings makes it 5 plus hours.....

and there was nothing the ds could do that the psp couldnt.........and look how that turned out

graphics dont win battles......

its all about the software...... which we have no idea about for this sucker but maybe ps3 ports........

Nicaragua2825d ago

I would say its better because it built around an online community infrastructure with enough power under the hood to make better games for the community who embrace it.

Take the 3D out of the 3DS and there is nothing that it can do that the NGP cant. The same cannot be said of the reverse.

Of course at this point its all just speculation but MGS4 running on the NGP pisses all over the calibre of stuff we have seen on the 3DS.

Sitris2825d ago

3DS battery life 3-5 hours without backlight and 3D
NGP battery life 4-5 with 3G, Wi-Fi and full backlight.

Thats how its better, but more than likely it will change for the 3DS.

EYEamNUMBER12825d ago (Edited 2825d ago )

guys need to check some of your facts

the 3DS batter is NOT 3-5 hours whithout the backlight screen off its 3-5 with light on as well as always being connected online plus 3D

the NGP is said to be 4-5 hours nothing more it was never said that was with brightness to the max or anything

bunfighterii2825d ago

true its about the software. piracy killed the PSP, and it just didn't have enough good games. I like my PSP, but I've only got like 6-7 games for it, cos everything else is junk.

NiKK_4192824d ago (Edited 2824d ago )

jack tretton said that they acknowledge that the psp had a bad battery life and want to improve on that, so im guessing at least psp battery life, which is better than 3ds will be, so anything else? oh yea, price, sony is known for selling at a loss, so im sure they will do everything they can to make sure this will get into our hands without raping our wallet. and games? please, just look at what they've shown, plus everyone knows who has the best games, and it's not 360 or nintendo. i mean sure, i enjoy halo, and i enjoy some nintendo games, but what do they have that gets you into the story and sucks you in the game, no matter what genre? i didnt think so, no offense though. you can play your sales though
probably losing bubbles as i speak

SnakeMustDie2825d ago

They better. NGP's success now depends on the entry price of the product. Everything I wished for a handheld gaming device are present.

DeeZee2825d ago

I think it'll be $299, that sounds reasonable to me. It should cost more than the 3DS, but not by too much.

UnwanteDreamz2825d ago

Well I think it should be the same as the 3DS. Sure it is more powerful and has more features but from what I have read the screen on the 3DS isn't too cheap. That alone might offset it but probably not. I think more than 300$ is crazy.

Hopefullu Sony takes note of the fact that this generation would have gone even better for them had the PS3 not had that sticker shock.

Just my opinion.

Malebaria2825d ago

E3 price reveal then? They´re still making a loss on its release, so it´ll be interesting to see how daring Sony will be.
