The recently announced PSP2, codenamed Next Generation Portable, has a battery life of between four and five hours, Eurogamer has been told by a source.
Better off waiting a bit for more concrete info. Cant really tell if this means on max settings or low settings.
i really don't doubt this EVERY SINGLE little rumor about the psp2 has been right so far so this one is most likely true as well
The 3DS has a batterylife of 3-5 hours WITHOUT backlight. If this has 4-5 hours of batterlife with backlight on, you won't hear me complain. Eventough they're called handhelds, I mostly play my PSP and DS at home. ;)
@Istanbull uhh i dunno where you get your info from but you couldn't be more wrong about the 3DS battery life
'Settings'? You mean low screen brightness, 3G/bluetooth/wifi off? You can't tone down the games' graphics if that's what you mean. @ Istanbull yeah, that's with the backlight on dude "Fully charged, the device allows 3-5 hours of 3DS games or 5-8 hours of normal DS games." 3 hours of battery life with the brightness and 3D cranked all the way up basically. The fact that the PSP2 gets 4-5 hours and is MUCH more powerful is far more impressive, though.
EYEamNUMBER1 no he is right. With the screen's backlighting turned down (but not off), you'll get 3-5 hours of battery life while playing a 3DS game. That number extends to 5-8 hours if you're playing an older DS game on the handheld. http://kotaku.com/5728198/y...
even that article you posted proves he actually isn't right "The 3DS has a batterylife of 3-5 hours WITHOUT backlight" something which obviously isn't true so how he can be right is beyond me
was afraid of that. When I read quad core among those other features that's usually what happens. TBH I think they're being generous with these numbers. When it launches I imagine I'll be seeing articles on 3-4 hour battery life.
@ evrfighter It's still far better than 3 hours with the much less powerful 3DS.
The NPG doesnt have a back light. You mean the ammount of light that the pixels produce. Its an OLED screen
@Muletroid that's not my point. I clearly said its difficult to gauge whether they meant on low settings or max settings. Rumour or not, doesn't specify enough.
4-5 hours is ok, I can't see myself playing it for more than an hour at a time, it's meant to be a portable, not a console where you sit at home and play. iPad has 10+ battery life though, this is the ONLY thing that is putting me off. I was planning on getting iPad2 (since it's meant to have dual-core etc) and use it for watching movies etc, BUT, I would prefer a PSP2...Just only for games, not for watching things on.
lol Wait the most funny isn't announced yet = the price.
That's a very good battery life :D Specially considering the 3DS's is only 3 hours with 3D and brightness cranked all the way up.
Dude, I believe this is a prototype unit, price announcement at e3 would be the best choice by any standard since there is where the spotlight will be, why announcing price when the device is coming almost like who tells next year?... 4/5 hours? with this raw power?...Win win situation, anyway this lil piece of hardware has plenty of room for a final revision, expecting a thinner device and better battery tho.
@Zez, quite your propaganda smear dude. Its 3 to 5 hours average with everything cranked up. NOT 3 hours with everything on. Repeating a lie doesn't make it true.
lol now the fanboys are making excuses for PSP2 haha When they complained about 3DS :D
It's actually higher than i expected it to be, with all it's features and all. Then again, i dont play for more than 2 hours or so. What i really hope for is changeable batteries, if not..... Also, "Sony will make a loss" might mean the price for the NGP should be around the price range of 250-300$ or maybe higher. But i really hope it's priced close to the 3DS (wishful thinking, i know) Guess we'll have to wait til' E3 to find out.
I'm willing to pay 350 euros with or without a game bundled. I hope CoD or Killzone are launch games. Just imagine playing multiplayer wherever you want!
This ^ is what gonna set the psp2 over 9 thousand of moon. Not cute graphics or what not but that.
Wtf about a moon?
Lol kurf...over 9000... Moon was just to say something more...you know...original lol... Anyway, like how the DS revolution-ed with the touch screen which 3DS simply didn't live up to nothing but 3D = Nothing new, psp2 overtake everything by bringing connectivity on the go, online play is the key for the truly next generation of portable system.
I am so confused, but highly amused :)
battery life isnt all that important seeing that (im assuming) you can go out and buy Xtra battery packs. I mean if your going to fork up how ever much this very expensive peice of hardware im sure will be, you might as well buy an Xtra battery pack as well xD
That's actually not bad, was expecting worse, if this is true.
figured as much too. not bad at all.enough time for movies or music or games in that time frame.
Those of us with iphones, samsung galaxies and other similar phones are used to this nonsense. It really sucks at first but then you adapt.
Sony have implemented POWERVR SGX into the PSP2, which means extended battery life. If that wasn't there, then it'd be like 2 hr max.
considering that which is under the hood light years above 3ds, with same battery life as 3ds. It is obvious that ngp is.....
Yeah 4-5 Hours battery life with everything maxed is great.
And did you see the size of PSP2? It probably has 3x biger battery then 3DS.
that's true too.
If true, I am not disappointed much as I have slowly embraced such small battery life. I can easily manage my PSP charge management. Why not same with this? I feel bad for those who can't come home everyday and charge or use a wall socket at the right time though.
Sorry, but something like this I can't believe. Especially when the system is due out at the end of the year. Even if the battery is 4-5 hours, who says 11 months isn't enough time to optimize it?
true and they might even change the battery to make it better.
i dont care!
Enough Time to recharge it again. Not bad at all.
LOL, all the fanboys laugh at the 3DS battery life but couldn't care less that NGP is about the same.
actually its better considering the hardware that the NGP is packing.
@Masterchef2007: hardware and OLED screen vs 3 regular screens! it's no wonder battery is the same
because the NGP managed to have a decent battery life for the technology that's inside it. The NGP is more powerful than the 3DS and yet it gets equal to above the same battery life as the 3DS. Just because you're mad at that doesn't make anyone a fanboy. Grow up.
Element, they have every right for that boasting. I'd expect the 3DS to have a longer battery life than the NGP, but considering it's shorter, and the NGP outputs a lot better, that's saying something on Nintendo's part. The funny part is that we got the battery times alone without any alterations to the system at hand. I mean it's counter intutive to have the battery extended longer by TURNING OFF the 3D aspect....of a system called 3DS.
the 3ds battery life is 3-5 hours max Answering pressing questions for the new machine, Kotaku reports that estimates for the console's battery life will take a hit from using the 3D mode, with the screen brightness up high and wireless mode activated. Shutting down 3D alone could extend battery life to up to eight hours, estimates Nintendo, while shutting off wireless features, dimming the screen or running the system in a so-called 'power-save mode' will extend play time even further. See people over reacted http://www.computerandvideo...
Oh well we will see once its out what the real battery life is
Whats the point of the 3DS if your not gonna play the games in 3D?...
Its GIMMICK YO!! :)
Even though I´d prefer a longer battery life, I really can not complain, considering all the horsepower it´s pushing. Not to mention, you can always turn off the 3G and Wi-Fi.
...and get extra 10 minutes :P
That's ok i guess but scientist really need to come up with some new battery technology these days like biologically cell reproducing energetic batteries or something lol... you know,,, they can harness the energy of cells and have it endlessly reproduce... there was a video on it some time ago....
Wonder if it will use the same battery as the old psp? If not then I don't mind getting a new extended charge battery like I did for my psp3000. Also 5 hours is pretty good if you can port ps3 games to it. Makes me wonder if there is going to be a slimmer version of the ps3 coming soon.
I wanted a little bit more. Just asking for 6 hours. Ima buy it anyway...
