Silent Hill’s five biggest shortcomings that need to be fixed

Silent Hill is such a promising world when it comes to stories and their presentations. Yet, for some reason, there are some shortcomings to the story and its world.

While there have been attempts to change this around - play Silent Hill 4: The Room, Silent Hill Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - there still seems to be some issues that pop up. These issues are ones that Vatra, the developers of Silent Hill Downpour, promised to work on.

It's great to hear Vatra wants to fix these shortcomings. How it all turns out will remain to be seen, though.

And the author of the article is right: The Silent Hill world is an amazing one and there are so many great ideas that have been left un-explored. There's so much that can be done with the series, so it's a shame it has ended up with a bunch of genericspin-off titles and a reboot of SH1.

Something that always interested me was that the "otherworld" seemed to slowly be spreading further and further out from the town of Silent Hill itself. As the games progressed, people who hadn't even been to Silent Hill were starting to get trapped in the Otherworld. I always liked that idea and wish it had been further expanded upon.

i agree,
it was a good article, and hopefully Vatra does a good job at making a real silent hill game

the only thing i disagree with is the whole Novels thing
when they do that i just feel like theyre milking the game

I remember playing the first Silent Hill while my girlfriend (at the time) would help me work out the puzzles in the game.

Good times...

i have to dissagree with them one the monster part...

you have to have some consistency with the franchise not just the name of the game.

Since its a hellish town you atleast need to bring some monsters back. I personaly love piramid head, hes like a constant demon that reminds you that its a silent hill game, and if you did something bad hes out to get ya.

Just bring back some fixed camera angles like on the original silent hill game, randome sounds that you dont know where there coming(like the piano sounds from the origal game, the girl crying on the bathroom). And more disturbing gore... silent hill 1 for the psx no one came close to you.

I dont think you quite get the point of the monsters.
They're not 'in the town' theyre in the characters head. Having monsters duplicate themselves into different characters nightmares is a stupid idea and a massive hole in the writing of the later games.

Yes, Pyramid Head is a scary mother fucker, but he's James's scary mother fucker.

If you notice there werent any crossovers for monsters until Hollywood and the Americans got hold of the franchise and fucked it up.

But i do totally agree about the camera angles etc. The atmosphere the earlier games created with sounds and things that you didnt actually see was mindblowing.

i think you dont get my comment... if its all happening in silent hill you need some consistency in the game... then it woulnt make sense(silent hill 4)

why not remove the fog? why we dont remove the nurses? u cant ! it woulnt be a SH game... im not trying to save my comment... im just saying that the game needs some consistancy
