Some outfits have trouble with their 'sophomore effort', their difficult second album. As things turned out for Sega, the Mega Drive proved itself a confident, strutting beast of a second console.
It wasn't until the 32-bit Saturn age that things got difficult... beginning-of-the-end difficult, that is.
That's not to belittle the Saturn itself. While tough to develop for and not as well supported as the competition, it was stuffed with shimmering Sega arcade ports and exclusives, and was a little gem when it came to third-party 2D shooters and scrappers.
