Microsoft announced a new update for Xbox 360, which (re)enables an old feature. The update is available on Wednesday, January 19th.

Nice excuse. What they probably did was fix the kernel for jtags to not go online again, as someone on XboxElement found how to stay online on jtags without getting banned.

They would still get banned when the next ban wave comes, only thing that prevents certain people from being banned is updating there firmware before MS detects then, but once your tagged its likely that you will be banned soon.

Plus I reckon its just to add abit more security as when that update came out for kinect and all that MS installed a software that detected copied games and fable copied wouldnt play, along with several other new titles, but a firmware fixed that lol

Not sure why they're saying it re-enables boot-to-disk.....the option hadn't left my 360 since it was first made an option years ago. It's there right now in front of me in system options. Maybe the 360s doesn't have it?

so they finally fixed it. Also why would you want to boot to the game in the tray when you turn the unit on. You should never leave a disc inside in the first place.

just updated and guess what!
for some reason i can no longer play call of duty black ops. it appears on the dashboard with the "play game" written on it and i have it installed on my hard drive and have been playing the day it came out. when i play it the console freezes with a black screen and the eject button and guide button dont work.

p.s. assassins creed brotherhood still works

i tried installing black ops again but same problem. i deleted my cache but it still doesn't work.

i also deleted the game of the hard drive and attempted to play the game on the disc but no luck.

i fink i shud go bak to playing bad company 2

Hahahaha is your black ops a real copy or a backup? The new update added AP2.5 checks to black ops, halo reach and modern warfare 2. You have to wait for the AP2.5 patches for those games and then re burn and they will work. Give it a day or 2!

I got a strange LED pattern on my Kinect motion sensor when I updated the 360 I have not Played Kinect yet today.

Just tried the kinect dashboard control and the tracking is completely 1:1 with no drag what so ever. Before the update there was almost a 1 second delay.

@Tinasumsum I let my son play kinectimals after the update and not only does it respond better but he could play it under 5 feet away, that is an aproximation but i did not have to move my couch to play, so yeh exellent update.

This feature never left my 360s.....It makes me wonder what it really is.On the other hand ever since I got the kinect dashboard update my 360s has had problems quitting games and going back to the dashboard.I have to clear the cache every few days and that seems to help for a while.Has anyone else had this happen to them?

The feature never "left" the settings portion of the dashboard, but for some people (like myself) the feature was broken during the November update.

Honestly, I didn't care that much about it being broken, and I actually used an ad on the dashboard to renew my gold membership for much cheaper than the going rate - so it was a win for me.

save yourself a ban by updating the firmware as your in hot water if you accidentaly boot up a game that has ap 2.5 by failing ap.25 challenge you will system flag yourself. but yes i guess your safe...... come back in a few days and we'll see if theres a banwave ;)

I bought a few themes before MS completely removed the Blades dash. they were all rendered worthless in 1 update. that's the kind of "f**k the consumer" bullsh1t MS pulls that drives me crazy.

and yes I agree you should be able to remove the dash foreground and view the artwork you've paid for! thought this for a long time, before they even changed from the Blades dash.

while not completely truthful with everything included, the only thing that non hackers/jtagers will need to worry about is the fact that boot to disk was re-enabled for those of us who the function failed during the november update.

It also appears that Kinect has been improved in its calibration.

The point of this update is to catch the pirates and hackers - not let them know what's coming - that would be counter productive.

When cops hold "free PS3 if you trade in your gun" days, they are trying to get guns off the street yes, but they also fingerprint you and check any probation/parole violations at the same time. They don't tell you that they are looking for convicts, but that's the MAIN purpose of the event. The guns off the street is good PR - that's all.

Similar type thing here. Appear to give the customers what they want (after they broke it) and really have a secret reason to put out a large update - but you don't know how large it is until you start the update... then it's too late and then you're on the shitlist.
