IGN: Shift 2 - We Own the Night

Every track in Shift 2 can be played at night, but some of the tracks are out in the middle of nowhere, with very little lighting. The track is pitch black, except for what's illuminated by your headlights.

A little early to make such statements...

offdawall4845d ago

like i sed b4 ... no one would care about the racing genre if gt5 wasnt in it ... tell me im lying ??? an no im no fanboy n4g ... its just facts gt5 already destroyed fortza3 and need 4 speed shift life to date sales

Kon4845d ago

"no im no fanboy n4g" I noticed. You are very neutral

iamgoatman4845d ago

Seriously? The racing genre was around for a long time before GT appeared on the scene, and although if it every stopped it would be a huge loss, I doubt the genre as a whole would suffer much. I mean it did pretty damn well in the lengthy time between the GT4 and the GT5 release. We've seen the birth of loads of high quality franchises since then.

No genre is held up solely by one series or game, especially not a game that's only been out for a couple of months. To say no one would care if GT5 wasn't in it is about as ignorant and fanboyish as it gets. You're clearly not a racing fan.

offdawall racing existed LONG before the GT series was created. NFS is older than GT. I remember playing a ton of on the SNES and Sega Genesis. I also remember playing the first NFS on the 3DO. I had a blast with that game. It was one of the reasons I purchased the 3DO with it's hefty $600 price tag.

BTW, I am not sure you are right about the GT series out selling the NFS franchise. How could it when you factor in all the versions of NFS and across so many platforms.

If the game supports DFGT, I may give this a shot.

Reminds me of when I played one of the rally challenges in GT5. Driving in pitch black especially with no other car around is pretty intense.

aaron58294845d ago

i dont see why not.

DFGT worked great with Shift 1.

Just, i dont like the game that much... a little over the top to call it a sim.

it's fun for a while.. but... oh well. we'll see how shift 2 compares.

2v14845d ago

yes another great game for my collection.

Chromer4845d ago

I'm still playing Hot Pursuit and GT5 so Shift 2 is going to have to drop in price before I get it.

Looking Back to 2011 and the Forza Baiting Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed

Paul writes: "So, all in all, Shift 2: Unleashed from way back in 2011 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC was a good game, but not quite as good as the marketing hype may have had you believe. Autolog and racing with friends was fun, the upgrading of the cars and the gradual unlocking of the new series made for an addictive play, and the game looked the part as well. But it failed to reach the heights many predicted."

Interesting interview....

I agree,
SQ: "Excellent"
LkTWS: "Yes"

Thanks for writing something with substance and not just opinion and speculation.

wonderfulmonkeyman3681d ago

Deus Ex was great, but ME3 was just done terribly. The should have done the collection of the series for wii u instead of the third game on its own.

CurrentDigital3680d ago

This is exactly what I've been telling Jes, but he's just a QA tester so it doesn't really matter what I tell him. :P

Excellent work. This is a breath of fresh air especially compared to the usual doom and gloom on here. Keep it up.

2 Car Racing Video Games of 2012 That Are Perfect for Adrenaline Junkies

Car racing games are the most prolific among all the genres of video games available for gaming consoles and computers. Ask any serious gamer and you will not find one who has never played a car racing game ever in his life. For starters, the reason behind the prolific success of car racing games can be attributed to the fact that they give you an opportunity to live a fantasy life that you can’t otherwise afford to live in reality. How many of you can afford the costly cars and their costlier upgrades? Very few. And, let’s not get into the legality of street racing and the risks involved with high speed car races.

I disagree about NFS Shift 2. I wanted to love it, and I loved the first one. They just made the cars handle like crap. Most of them feel like they pivot from the center of the car. It makes the "fun" a lot harder to swallow when you can't keep a world class sports car on the track, and not for lack of skill, but for lack of good physics, and driving dynamics. I really like the helmet cam view, and the way it is so visceral. Lets hope they fine tune it for part 3.

jimbobwahey4227d ago

I think that the unfortunate physics in Shift is an absolute tragedy, because for me, the game surpasses Forza and Gran Turismo in every other area.

The career mode is excellent (both the variety and unique race objectives), the track list is pretty much the best I've ever seen in a racing game, the sound is superb, the damage system is perfect and there are so many other cool little touches (being able to works convert any car, and neat stuff like upgrading the cockpit etc).

It's a shame that Slightly Mad Studios had a big falling out with EA after the game released, and it's guaranteed that we'll never see a Shift 3 (which is a real shame since I imagine they would have introduced weather and finally got the physics right). However, the upcoming Project CARS which looks utterly amazing and does in fact have a solid physics engine, is being developed by the same team and is scheduled for release on PC, PS3, 360 and Wii U sometime next year apparently.

Race 07 pc is giving me lots of joy.
