December 2010 Overview

NPD will be releasing data regarding the performance of the USA videogame market January 13 at 6:30 PM Eastern Time. The data covers the five weeks ending January 1, 2011 (Nov 28 - Jan 1). Based on VGChartz data for the same period, we expect NPD to report the following information.

Let's cut to the chase: It was a December to remember in the United States. Not one, not two, but three video game systems topped 2.5m units for the month, an average of 500,000 units per week. Software and accessory sales were once again tremendous. Kinect and Move should lead to well over $1 billion in revenues from accessories alone. VGC data shows that over 100 games sold over 100,000 units in December in the USA, and if we expand the scope back to the Americas, over 150 games topped 100,000 units for the month. Last year, Michael Pachter of Wedbush revealed that NPD data for the USA showed 114 games topped 100,000 units during December. Not surprisingly, software revenue...
