Ratchet Demo Now Available in Stores

While a PlayStation Network demo is set to hit for downloads on October 4th, those who ramble into GameStop today can pick up a playable demo for Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. The demo seems to contain the first level of the game and offers gamers a chance to try out the title before its release at the end of next month.

You have to have preordered the game to get one of the demos. The demo is amazing. This game is going to be sweet. I picked mine up today; but I had already preordered it... (New Mexico). I would assume they did this just to push sales of the game... not like it doesn't happen with MS games.... look at the Halo beta that you had to buy the Crackdown game...now that was a crock even though it turned out that I liked the game.

glad you put at the end of your comment that you liked the game because lots of people see it as it must be rubbish and people only brought it because of the beta, yes i do know some people that brought it for the beta. but a lot of people including myself brought Crackdown for Crackdown and i still like to play it to this day.

i have obviously completed the story mode, but at the moment i am trying to find all of the hidden and agility orbs =D

dont be a fool snukadman. They bundle the demo with the game to promote pre orders. So far sony has finally gotten on the ball and started releasing decent demos on the psn. Ps is getting demos same time as xbox live for a change so thats pretty big. Besided if you don't feel like getting it just wait till october 4th and you will get it

They try it every time I get a game from EBgabes/gamestop. They have this robotic spiel seemingly drummed into them and they have no real anserws to any of my questions/opinions on why PS3 kicks ass.

While I won't debate with you whether or not they do the "a 360 spiel" now...when I got my 360 all I ever heard from them was I was basically a loser that that wasted my money on a lame system with lame games, that the PS3 was 10x more powerful and was going to be so much better that the 360 would become extinct, they always did it, they did it when I bought PGR3, COD2, Fight Night and Ghost Recon...so it goes both ways, I have never gotten any sh!t for buying a ps3 game though.

I preordered all three systems and had no such statements from any of the Gamestops that I routinely shop at. Just as with many of the gaming magazines and gaming websites, everyone has a favorite and becomes a "fanboy" whether they realize it or not and tends to promote one system as better than the other. Luckily, as mentioned, I have never encountered this with the person whom I routinely do business with at Gamestop. Of course, you could look at it as my person just trying to promote preorders and sales since I buy for all three systems.

As soon as I saw this post I called my local Gamestops and luckily one of them had them. Most clerks weren't even aware of it.
Anyway the Pixar comparisons are valid as this is the closest yet to Pixar quality visuals. The graphics are simply amazing, as are the in engine cut scenes. Gameplaywise, it's Ratchet, plain and simple. You're given a blaster gun, a grenade launcher type gun, the transmorpher gun that turns enemies into penguins, and the disco ball gun that sends enemies into a dancing frenzy. Very cute, and as always with Insomniac, the gameplay is rock solid. There's also a six axis moment where Ratchet is free falling and you're controlling his descent with the motion control. Sadly the demo ends right before what appears to be the boss fight.
Anyway, you might be able to get the game without a deposit on the full version like I did. As good as the demo was, it was, like I said before; Ratchet. That's not really a bad thing, but in the end this is the same game as the PS2 classics, with a very very nice coat of paint. Personally I'm still going to stick with Uncharted as my PS3 gam of choice this fall.
Oh, and suprisingly the demo is on a Blu Ray disc as opposed to a DVD.

Well Insomniac acknowledged that they had strayed from the things that make ratchet great, and I appreciate their return to the original formula. i'm totally looking forward to uncharted and am psyched it's a new experience, but a great ratchet game is still gold to me.

damn you ultraman you beat me to it...haha ok so the visuals are stunning, absolutely stunning...this is seriously by far the best PS3 game I have played to date...the gameplay is totally awesome and totally Ratchet, the game is a kick in the ass jumping from rail to rail while trains and lasers buildings try to stop you and dismantle the track...the demo is of the videos we have already seen...anyways the weapons like in all Ratchet games are awesome...I laughed so hard to get all the guys dancing with the groovitron...and it's funny if you hit em' while their dancing with your wrench, they will start dancing a little differently, it's hilarious, also hilarious to turn guys into penguins...and like ultraman noted, it has six axis functionality when your free-falling towards the end and it's really fun, I actually screamed out "NICE" seriously guys pick this DEMO UP!! This is one hell of a bad ass game, you wanna show off the PS3 or if you just like good games, this one is the sh!t!! Oh and the demo is about 20 minutes, so it's good length...ahh man I am going to go play it some more!

This is debatable. I got the demo today after I pre order the game in my local Gamestop (Puerto Rico). I played the demo and at first its amazing. Pixar like quality if you want to compare. The textures are great, the colors are amazing and the detail in the overall game,the characters and background is really incredible. At first this is a game no other console could handle period. I HAVE A 360 WITH LOTS OF GAMES INCLUDING GEARS AND BIOSHOCK just to the 360 fanatics who are going to blame my comment.

The sound is amazing too and the control is PERFECT. Its just another Ratchet game but its the best. It doesnt feel to different from the PS2 version. The graphics are the thing that sets it appart.

Well...further inspection to the graphics and after replaying the entire demo revealed that INSOMNIAC STILL has work to do. I dont know if its my demo, my PS3 or wathever...the game has a BAD framerate problem. It also suffers from clipping issues that are pretty anoying. THEY MAKE THE NEXT GEN BEAUTIFUL GRAPHICS look ugly. The game is PIXAR quality unless you move Rathchet. Then you notice that INSOMNIAC try to hard to push the PS3 limits. I believe that Uncharted would be a better graphical showcase, but again we have yet to play a demo to see if it has framerate problems. Framerate, the now so commom problem that in my opinion is destroying the PS3.

I accept framerate issues from third party lazy devs, but NOT tolerate it from first parties like IMSOMNIAC. So afterall the graphics arent that impressive. Looking like the best on any console but moving like the worst. This happened with LAIR (A REALLY CRAPPY GAME, I JUST PLAYED IT) and are visible in the most amazing PS3 game to date...HEAVENLY SWORD. FANATICS...

insomniac has stated that the build you are playing is from a couple of months ago. they have already issued a statement saying that they have fixed and tweaked the framerate problems.

The claim of 60 FPS has gotten out of hand recently. Technically speaking any game can claim to run at 60 FPS at some point throughout the game. It doesn't mean it is a consistent 60 frames throughout. Demos aren't always optimized, since optimization is often one of the last processes.

Trust me, these guys know what they are doing.

I just said that I dont know if it was an my copy, my PS3 or wathever ( older build included in that) So I expect these problems to be solved by INSOMNIAC. I said the game LOOK amazing and that it cant be done on any other console.

I also said the true, for wathever reason my demo has framerate and clipping issues. So I just hope that my final copy is as smooth as butter. lol! Im tired of the framerate issues on my PS3. They make the console look inferior to the 360. I hope developers work with that. The game that Im going to use to judge my PS3 is Call of Duty 4. So until then I believe its just the devs fault.

I love my PS3, I play it more than my 360. ( Just finished BIOSHOCK, to be honest I expected a more longer adventure but its the best game of the year so far)The reality is that the PS3 is having its faults rigth now and I hope Sony cath up and fix them for this extreme holiday season. Well...back to play HEAVENLY SWORD.

PS; This BOHAM king is REALLY a bad guy!!! I like so much I didnt want to defeat it at the end of the GAME LOL!!

I noticed no issues with the demo in regards to frame rate problems. The only issue I did encounter was with loading. There's no loading indicators at all (the screen just goes black), and after one particular death the game never loaded and I had to reset the PS3.

@Chonotrigger87- Naw really? I always thought demos were taken from finished builds. Thanks for clearing this matter up.:P

Just played it and i love it. ive never really been a fan of ratchet and clank but after playing this, i know im definatly buying this game.

HOLY TEARING BATMAN! This game has the worst tearing in recent memory. Just turning around makes the game tear. They better fix this. At this point in time, there's no reason not to use V-Sync.

I have the demo, and the tearing is horrendous. I hope that's gone from the full game, because apart from that, the graphics are just incredible.
It does seem like a pixar movie!
