Jurassic Park game details finally surface

Ian Fisher writes: Revealed in the latest of Game Informer, the first tidbits we have on Telltale’s Jurassic Park game are encouraging but there are a few things that are somewhat disappointing. With there being three Jurassic Park films, two books that are somewhat vastly different from the films that were made and the prospect of really cool spin-off opportunities, some had wondered when the new JP game would take place. Well keeping in tune with everyone’s favorite installment of the Jurassic Park series, the JP game will be set directly after the events of the first Jurassic Park film.

I hope it looks good. Make the dinosaurs looks epic. I fear this will be a first person shooter though. I want some originality and puzzle solving in it.

@Below
Really? I can't tell you how much that confuses me. It better be sexy looking

MUHAHAHAHAAHAHA4846d ago

Its suppose to be like heavy rain :)

Nitrowolf24846d ago (Edited 4846d ago )

I am a bit disappointed from reading this article. Here i was hoping for a full scale Open World Jurassic Park Game only to find out it's gonna be like Heavy Rain QTE gameplay style and be five episode releases. Don't get me wrong i loved Heavy Rain allot, but for me to hear it's gonna be in this game, that disappoints. If the graphics aren't to bad for the dino and other stuff then i might get it (if it runs like QTE).

Still gonna keep an eye on this.
Hopefully they could make the QTE right.

well it doesn't have to be open world, would love to see a FPS or TPS running with Cry Engine or something

Correction: I hope the jungle looks as real the Crysis jungle.

But that probably won't happen since it's on consoles too, right?

Mikeockizard4846d ago

Ugggh, seriously? Heavy rain was pretty good for that style of game, but for a JP game? Like nitrowolf said, this license just NEEDS an open world survival style game. A Jurrassic Park game in an open world with the CryEngine where you have survive amongst dinosaurs using stealth, cunning, and make shift weapons? Why the hell has no one made that game yet???????

A linear, scripted path where I push the buttons as they pop up on screen to run away from dinosaurs? No thanks. I would rather go back and watch a marathon of the 3 JP movies over and over......

HolyOrangeCows4846d ago

Like Heavy Rain? A Jurassic Park game?
That sounds absolutely awful.

Press X to not die. Mash A to run away. Press "Remove from cart" to not buy game.

Lord_Doggington4846d ago

um actually, it sounds perfect for the franchise.

the original movie/book was more an adventure then it was an action movie. if you want to shoot dinos, play turok

i think a heavy rain implementation will bring back the helplessness of BEING THE HUNTED, not being a hunter.

OFF TOPIC @commander

I guess you haven't played games like Alan Wake, Unchartered 2, BadComp2 (single player) which have had jungles drawn pretty well.

Also not everyone on pc side will be having easy access to NV's 580 or AMD's 68xx series cards in the PCs worth alone price of 2 or more consoles, to be able to run Crysis in even 50% of it's intended glory.

Since the console devs dont have to cater to the least common denominator they can easily maximise the performance of each subsystem of the console. And to be honest both are pretty damn amazing even after 4+ years on market. Less can be said about PC made during last 2 years.

ON TOPIC:

I really wanted something like Tresspasser http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

which i played on my 486DX2 with voodoo gfx card back in late 90s. I reall ywould have like to see a proper HD version of JP on similar lines as it had some puzzles as well.

grailly4846d ago

people here were hoping for way to much! It's telltale making the game, so you know it's not gonna be an action game, or pretty.

there's no reason to be disappointed, with a bit of knowledge on telltale anybody could have known that the JP game would be an open world action game.

RedDead4846d ago (Edited 4846d ago )

Hate to tell you guys this, there was a Jp mod coming out for Crysis. It was shut down though due to cun*s that own JP. I showed alot of potential.

Edit---just found another mod that isn't shut down, called Return to jurraisc park, another Cry engine 2 mod :P

Inside_out4846d ago

If these guys are serious about making a great game they really need to start with the best game engine.

If your going to make monstrous monsters, you need to be able to render fluid, bloody and fleshy game play...older footage but still shows well...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Of course much of this game will be in jungle like foliage...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Having day and night game play is going to be important as well...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Finally, T-rex is always a big draw in any dinosaur game...unreal has you covered...this would work well in the dino T-rex jeep chase scene...in the rain no less...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Looks great right, but how does the unreal look in action...Hmmmm....

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

but, what if they want Multi-player added to this game...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Seems like a open and shut case to me...get it done.

thats_just_prime4845d ago

Heavy rain was god awful it that game was like going back in time 20 years. To the 1st cd rom point and click games. If JP is like that is will be just as god awful

MUHAHAHAHAAHAHA4845d ago

thats_just_prime

You are an idiot, you obviously haven't played heavy rain and for me it is by far my goty 2010

RedDragan4845d ago

@ Cez

The Unreal engine is not up for the job. It is not that impressive a game engine. Something far superior is needed.

A custome engine for a game made only for PC is the way forward!

FinalSpartan4846d ago

Why does this game sound trash? I mean come on Big ass dinosaur gaint could be amazingly done on First person and third person fighting them epicly and perhaps amazing set pieces like Uncharted 2. But exploring abadoned facilities and QTE ?... King Kong had some epic first person t-rex dinosair contact.

waltyftm4846d ago

I really enjoyed King Kong's T-rex bits, lol.

grifter0244846d ago

A Jurassic Park game made to play like a sandbox ala crysis/farcry/scrolls where you need to explore and figure out what happened at the park while watching out for "Ingen," Trying to control the place.

Day 1 buy hell I'll reserve the game tomorrow if this is what they thought of.

FinalSpartan4846d ago

@ Grifter

this is what i thought when jurassic park comes to mind.

MidnytRain4846d ago

This would make a great survival game. I would love to scavenge around an uncharted sandbox-styled island. Making shelters, makeshift weaponry, setting traps, learning about the different dinosaurs and how to handle them; and of course, mad escapes from the King of Dinos. I'd buy it.

Darkfocus4846d ago

it's running on the same engine as back to the future and the devils playhouse so it won't be too technically impressive and they'll have to make up for it by having a good art style...

sobekflakmonkey4846d ago (Edited 4846d ago )

I just hope this is as fun as Jurassic Park on SNES, I remember playing that when i was like 7 years old and being very frustrated with it, but at the same time loving it, and i played it just recently for nostalgia, and its still awesome...

PirateThom4846d ago

I love Jurassic Park, so I'm looking forward to this.

Soul Train4846d ago

Me too, I still play the Genesis version from time to time. Great game.

thedisagreefairy4846d ago

the genesis version was smart and based most levels off the book and not the movie.

easily one of my favorite older games.

PirateThom4846d ago

I only have two complaints about the movie compared to the book, Muldoon doesn't get drunk and start taunting the raptors and Hammond is too nice.

This is totally unrelated to this, but when you mentioned the book, I figured I'd mention

FrankMcSpank4846d ago

Which did you like more the SNES or Genesis version?

Genesis was a side scroller contra-style where you could play as a raptor or human.

SNES was a third person open world game, but had FPS view when you went in a building.

I thought the SNES version was cooler. Any thoughts?

Darkfocus4846d ago

Snes version was a better game but the genesis one you get to play as a raptor that automatically makes it cooler :P

Mista T4846d ago

I had the snes version, great music I remember
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
good times, this though the one the article is about, they easily could've made it into an open world fist person rpg.

Obama4846d ago

I only like the first Jurassic Park. The rest are crap.

Commander_TK4846d ago

That's the first time I hear that.

CobraKai4846d ago (Edited 4846d ago )

It's criminal how these movies isn't on blu ray yet.

ironfist924846d ago

"uhm..you do have, uh, dinosaurs...on this, uh...dinosaur safari, right?"

tigertron4846d ago

I'm hoping it'll resemble the T-rex part of the King Kong game, running away from the T-rex was epic, as was the screen going all blurry when the thing roared in your face. Although I don't want QT for a game like this.

Sadly, this is Deja vu, with Telltale going through this type of thing before in 2018 - thoughts are with those affected. Games companies and all sectors always follow each other, with the bad press reducing as each new announcement is made - sad times we live in.

Every Jurassic Park Game Ranked From Worst To Best

BLG writes: "In 1993 Steven Spielberg took Michael Crichton’s novel about a dinosaur theme park and turned it into a cinema masterpiece. And ever since then every developer from Konami to Telltale has tried to make the films into a video game. The developers were so concerned with whether or not they could, they never stopped to consider whether they should. Welcome to every Jurassic Park Game ever made ranked from worst to best."

Dinosaurs once ruled the 🌎

ZeekQuattro625d ago

It's funny I was a big dinosaur fan as a kid but I only ever played JP 1 (NES), JP II (SNES) and JP Rampage Edition (Genesis). I really liked Rampage Edition as you got to play a raptor trying to escape the Island.

sourOG625d ago

I really enjoyed the evolution games. I platinumed both but I never got the dlc. That’s the planet coaster studio if I’m not mistaken. They are awesome, they brought that shit to consoles in a competent way. As a Jurassic park fan and a sim building fan it was a perfect match. Does anyone know if planet zoo if ever coming to consoles?

Profchaos625d ago

When I was a kid I saved up and brought the lost world game on PS1 all I ever wanted was to be a Trex let lose on the city like the end of the movie but man that difficulty I never made it past the 2nd level

ANIALATOR136624d ago (Edited 624d ago )

Back then with there being no Internet, you needed the codes to access the levels too. And if you didn't have them, you could always keep inputting nonsense into the search until something came up. I remember once inputting the right code for the t rex level but since I didn't write it down, I couldn't play it again when I died. These days it's nothing though to go back and play what you want, when you want.

deleted625d ago (Edited 625d ago )

Jurassic Park Sega CD wasn't even mentioned, so this list isn't "Every". Actually a pretty bad game, but I loved it because I was a JP obsessed kid! XD

How Supermassive Games Is Repeating Telltale's Mistakes

Supermassive Games has failed to innovate since its breakout hit Until Dawn and its games are getting more stale, something that sadly echoes Telltale Games' downfall.

ApocalypseShadow661d ago (Edited 661d ago )

Trash article. More jaded commentary from individuals that play so much of something, they get pulled out of the very thing they liked before. Or think everyone is as jaded as them with the genre. Thing is, the developer wouldn't be making these games if they didn't think there was an audience. And, they are not in financial trouble as Tell Tale was. Try again.

Critiquing is fine as we want developers like Super Massive to stay the course of making good games. Especially after rushing games out too quickly after their break out hit. But to go on and say they are on a decline when the very game they just released was received well by the gaming community is jumping the gun. Not only that, but Until Dawn: Rush of Blood was a hit on PSVR fool. Not everyone gets nausea from VR.

Not only that, but the ignorant opinion that Quantic Dreams has declined when Detroit: Become Human is a great game for its genre, was received well by gamers and sold well, speaks volumes about this person's opinion.

plmkoh661d ago

Tell Tale's biggest mistake was attaching their works to huge existing IP that requires big royalties. They didn't invest in bringing new ways to interreact with their games or even improvements to graphics/mo-cap.

Supermassive is the complete opposite. Their games are completely original works, they own their own titles, there is a level of exploration in their games and the graphics continue to be worth a look.

Notellin661d ago

Agreed. This article is complete garbage. The games it compares The Quarry to are hardly competitors and nowhere in the league of the game.

Knushwood Butt660d ago

I need to play Rush of Blood again.

Bobertt661d ago (Edited 661d ago )

These type of games are about the choices and the story. Some of the later releases may have faltered in those areas making them not as good as the original. But i don't see how this author wants them to innovate. It just seems like the author wants to play a different genre. What they need to do is come up with better stories and choices.

SyntheticForm661d ago

Currently playing TQ and have no complaints. Really enjoying it. Hats off.

StarkR3ality661d ago

The reason that telltale fell into financial ruin was the amount of money they had to pay out for the big License fees. Batman, Borderlands, walking dead, they had to pay through the nose to get rights to use them. Supermassive don't have that problem, although I would love them to do a Nightmare on Elm street, Friday the 13th or Halloween game, the rights to those properties would likely be too much to warrant the cost.

MadLad661d ago

Dumb, uninformed take.
Telltale went under due to, mainly, piss poor management. They grew the team way too big, and took on way too many projects at one time; stretching the key talent far too thin.
Then constant crunch pushed much of said key talent to move onto other studios.
Tied into the fact they kept utilizing antiquated tech instead of moving onto a new, modern engine.

None of this applies to Supermassive, thus a pointless and uninformed article we have here.
