THQ VS EA Online Pass System - Which is Better for Gamers

The game companies are no dummies, and they know that addiction starts primarily online with multiplayer. The idea behind the online pass is to say that each brand new game comes with a code that you enter online in order to enjoy the full multiplayer experience. Used games don't have a code, so therefore you must purchase a code which currently is $10. EA and THQ are leading the charge in this system, let's take a few minutes to break down each companies Online Pass system to see which one is better for you, the gamer.

Get it? If you accept that, you're EA's bitch.

lostinplace3464d ago

Its a little harder to justify since it was free up until a few months ago.

WildArmed3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

I do hate what they are doing though.
So lending my games to friends is apparently crap if you have a EA game..
(I mean lets face it, nobody want's EA games like MoH and BC2 for their SP)
next thing you know that they are locking the SP too -.-

showtimefolks3464d ago

EA started it
THQ will follow next is activision and so many more

i am in the minority here when i say i am fine with this $10 fee because i much rather have devs make extra money so they can work on better games/sequels than gamestop.

uall complain about it put yourself in a publisher's shoes

on a $60 dollar game

12 goes to gamestop/bestbuy/amazon etc,,,,
12 goes to publisher
.70 a disk
plus advertisement
than the rest to devs

so its not like these stores are not making enough money by just putting a game on the shelf its getting $12

and this argument about i give my games to my friends how many time? I know not many gamers lend but liek to either sell at ebay/cralglsit or to a friend

its simple instead of listing your game that you paid 60 for than playing for a month for 40 instaed of 50 10bucks ain't killing anyone

game sales will rise and we will get more games look at it this way

NOW CLICK THE DISAGREE BUTTON ALL YOU WANT IT NOT GONNA CHANGE THE FUTURE EITHER YOU GET WITH THE PROGRAM OR QUIT GAMING

trevonn953464d ago

theyy dont have to quit gaming thq and ea arnt the only publishers of games

TheDeadMetalhead3464d ago

"i am fine with this $10 fee because i much rather have devs make extra money so they can work on better games/sequels than gamestop."

You actually think the developers get that money?

WildArmed3464d ago

lol, you think EA and THQ havn't been making profits long before this stupid program?

Com'on you can't seriously believe that.....can you?

Jezuz3464d ago

They're rich enough already

Spenok3464d ago

Most people will disagree. However i agree with you in supporting developers i like. If i enjoy there games i will buy the game new.

WildArmed3463d ago

@above

Supporting devs is not the issue thou.
When you buy 'online' passes you aren't doing the devs a favor, just the publisher.

I highly suggest buying games new vs old.
but when you are giving games to ur buddy for a week or two, and he finds out he can't even njoy the full game w/o buyin a stupid online pass.
now that's just sick imo.

I stopped renting because so many game companies are only giving a partial product nowadays

lucifon3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

Pointless article? They're both identical but Homefront's actually lets you play online but just for the first 5 levels.

I understand why they're doing this, but I'm not a huge fan. I do however want to support the developers. I just think things such as the BFBC2 VIP Code and Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network giving players 'extra' content is a much better way to do this rather than what effectively is penalising some legit buyers.

Ducky3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

"Of course the best option was the one that gamers had years ago. Pay $60 and get a full game and experience, not just a single player game. "

... how do these passes change that? ... or am I reading it wrong?

Meh, I always buy my games new, and buy 'em for keeps. So I guess it doesn't affect me.
