How You Become the Controller

"You are the controller." If you've been following the buzz surrounding Kinect, you've probably heard this phrase tossed around. From plugging leaks with your hands and feet in Kinect Adventures! to changing songs with the flick of a wrist in Zune, Kinect opens up a new way to naturally experience your entertainment.

But once you get over the magic of opening the disc tray with the wave of a hand like you're a Jedi, you might start to wonder how it all works under the hood. In this blog post, I'll focus on the secret sauce behind the human tracking system and how it allows game developers to produce Kinect-enabled experiences. Then Arjun Dayal, a program manager on the team, will show you how Kinect enables a gesture-based approach to navigating the Xbox Dashboard and Kinect Hub. But before we get into any of that, let’s start with the conceptual principles that guided Kinect’s development.

"But once you get over the magic of opening the disc tray with the wave of a hand like you're a Jedi..."

Comic GOLD people. Imagine the tizzy automatic doors at the grocery store puts them in.

Kinect is extremely casual and i have no interest in it.

hennessey863235d ago (Edited 3235d ago )

ill tell you why, you are a fangirl who thinks his/her opinion will sway others but guess what your opinion carrys no weight because its clear your a fangirl, you only have to look at your comment history its pathetic.

are you a ps2 and ps3 owner dual console owner

Pixel_Enemy3235d ago (Edited 3235d ago )

I own all three consoles and I have absolutely no interest in Kinect. Show me some games worth buying Kinect for then I might be interested.

I can see getting Kinect if I only owned a 360 since 2011 will have nothing but Kinect releases. My PS3 will be getting a workout this year.

Owning more than one console doesn't mean you're not a fanboy of one. Is this the twilight zone? The way people show no interest in something here on N4G is to show more interest than the people that are interested? Move doesn't interest me so you won't find me clinking on Move articles or reading more than the title. You guys are very interested in Kinect even more then the people buying it. You keep up with Kinect, you follow up on it's progress, lineup, news and feedback because you are greatly interested because you are worried, angry and frustrated. Way more interest then the average Wii casual buying Kinect.

Tinasumsum3235d ago (Edited 3235d ago )

Hand picked for the juiciest ripe fanboy flavor.

DualConsoleOwner we know already you've been trolling and bashing Kinect for days. You're comment doesn't even make any sense seeing how I can find you and others that agreed with you in every kinect article.

ActionBastard3235d ago (Edited 3235d ago )

I've been here over 3yrs and have never had to create another account b/c I was banned. What about you?

Tinasumsum3235d ago (Edited 3235d ago )

Funny pulling out the o'l multi account card when you got nothing. If this is really your only account *cough* I'm amazed you lasted this long. You still have not explained, if Kinect sucks so bad and you are not interested why do you troll so much showing more interest than the people buying Kinect :)

You guys seem on edge today must be the hunch Microsoft is going to reveal kinects holiday performance later on. I've seen one bubble fanboys troll much less than you. You hate me I get it. Trying to smear me because you're angry because I keep calling you out. Just stop trolling and you will never see me. Get outside, find a girlfriend, get some work or go to school. Why waste time spending all day and night everyday worrying trying to damage control a console?

ActionBastard3235d ago

That was a really, really weak rebuttal. But I kinda expected it. Keep trying Tina.

It's a passing trend for gaming, I think.

The technology for Kinect might me useful in other real-life situations and for manual tasks for businesses, but for gaming, it's kinda of an obstruction and most people want to relax when they game, like they have for over two decades.

Things like VR could make games more exciting and interactive, but you would have to have one of these( http://www.youtube.com/watc... and that's much too large, expensive and inconvenient.

I just don't see how Kinect can evolve gaming as we know much, when you can't even walk forward in a 3D game world.

DualConsoleOwner3235d ago

rarely require movements...

and hardcore games dont even require wiimote. only classic remote.

you may have something there.

JonnyBigBoss3235d ago

Dance Central only lasted so long. Dust has begun piling.

Arup023235d ago

Dance Central is that kind of game that you only play for a couple days... Like most of Kinect games so far.
