Special Edition 'Transforming D-Pad' Xbox 360 Controller Review | GoozerNation

Jason Trent with GoozerNation writes: "Special edition controllers for the Xbox 360 are not on short supply. We seem to get a new controller at least once a year, and though these new options often simply sport a new color, this year we get something significantly different from the normal run-of-the-mill controller. With a sexy and sleek color scheme and added functionality that's the first of its kind, this is the come-all be-all controller for the Xbox 360 enthusiasts out there."

I would rather see a pad where you can detatch the thumb stick and the 4 buttons and rotate them so both thumb sticks are at the top of the pad instead of having every colour in the rainbow pads(or black, white & silver in this case)

There was such a gamepad for PS2 made years ago. Both analog sticks, D-pad and the buttons are detachable and can be rearranged anyway you like. The stiffness of the analog stick can also be adjusted.

I have one but can't remember who made it.

i found the one you had i think it was called the phoenix revolution, onlt one problem they dont make then anymore
saitek makes one as well but that one only lets you swap the left side

and Im just going by your comment history. A while back, you said "nice one M$ get all they ask for, there O.S's & consoles suck." Looks like a hater who doesnt have a 360 at all.

Microsoft who are currently in court in Europe for their monopoly
Microsoft who release Vista
Microsoft who allowed the early Xbox 360's release

To be honest his stattement doesn't seem completely innaccurate.

will games prompt for button presses in the old colours? not sure changing the colour of the buttons is a good idea

dragon825235d ago

It shouldn't be a problem for people who are familiar with the controller. The problem will be with people new to the 360.

Yeah, I said that awhile back when the controller was announced. I posted a comment saying that the color change was probably not a good idea, but everyone got pissed I got tons of disagrees. lol I mean it's not a huge radical change to the controller by changing the colors, but it still might pose a problem for new 360 owners who see on the game showing to press a red color B button and then their B button is gray. Could cause a little confusion at first. At least they're trying to fix the d-pad situation. Too bad they couldn't make it like the PS3's d-pad, which is a de-facto design for fighter games to work well. I know a buddy who is a huge 360 fan (fanboy really. lol), and he bought a PS3 specifically to play Super Street Fighter 4 with the PS3 controller. Not kidding.

How about this:

"Hey Microsoft, redesign the stupid controller with a D-Pad that is actually worth a damn, not with one that comes with a crappy setting and an OK setting. Oh, and leave the freakin' colors on the bottons...why would you strip the controller of colored buttons? What kind of design decision is that? How does that help anyone?"

I will wait for the razer onza tournament edition controller to come out. Its cheaper and its better.

Might get one of those, broke my wired pad. Seriously why should you be forced to use a wired pad just because you have large hands? The placement of the battery pack make it really uncomfortable for me to hold.
