Pocket Gamer - Originally released on the Amiga in 1993, The Settlers was a curious blend of strategy and sim, wrapped in a blanket of cute graphics and hypnotic melodies.
It was the kind of game that could easily swallow entire evenings, with maps that lasted for hours at a time and deeply engrossing gameplay.
Pocket Gamer: Complicated strategy games wouldn't strike many as an obvious fit for the casual mini-screen of a mobile phone.
There have been a few strategic successes over the past few months (Majesty and Starfront: Collision to name two), but the real-time strategy genre is still one that's rarely pulled off well on the touchscreen.
SquareGo writes:
"You could say it was only a matter of time before there was a Settlers game on iPad. After all, there are iPad representations of the Civilization and Command & Conquer franchises.
Unfortunately, Settlers HD makes a pretty poor first impression"
The Settlers HD is one of the better migrations onto the iPad from its original home on desktop. It’s a classic strategy game, with all the usual resource acquisitions, population growth and management and settlement expansion as the game progresses.
