As a fantastic year of gaming comes to a close, GameTrailers picks the best and brightest of 2010! The 2010 Game of the Year is chosen!
IMHO Exclusives should never be awarded GOTY. Multiplatform should, that way, no side gets all pissed off, well, the only exception being the Wii, for it needs it's exclusive to stay ahead. My 2 cents. EDIT: Disagree's ? There's never pleasin' ya N4G, no matter how impartial one is.
You make it sound as though GotY is awarded to keep all fanboy territories happy. LOL! Fail!
@pedrami91 Saying "Exclusives should never be awarded GOTY." Is as far from impartial as you can get. Any game can win GOTY as long as its not an exclusive. STFU. Its called Game Of The Year, not Multiplatform GOTY. If your chosen system doesn't have a game that wins GOTY, who gives a sh*t. This isn't some competition in preschool where everybody wins. Your favorite game doesn't win well then tough sh*t. Grow a pair and stfu. If a game happens to be an exclusive, but it is the best game of the year, then it deserves to be awarded GOTY. Instead of "awww, well I really loved this one game over everything else, but I can't award it GOTY because it'll make all those little fanboys cry". Do you realise how stupid that is??
I have no clue how this game can be even considered a nomination for GOTY. Yeah it played decent but aint no way that's GOTY material. I was literally salivating when downloading the demo then couldnt believe this was the mighty Mass Effect I've been reading on forums as the greatest RPG in years when I actually played it. Wow it just seems standards are low when rating games that are not PS3 exclusive. Nah, I'm not hating or trying to troll but I now see if ME1&2 were PS3 exclusives w/ the exact same content, it would have gotten a lot of 7s from the same big sties that gave it 9.5s & 10s. This is just my view point on this game.
I comPletely agree with you. I was honest to god bored of that demo. I for one don't know what the big deal is. To each his own but rdr and this are not my kind Of games at all. My goty material seems to be on a different quality level.
Much respect to Gametrailers. They gotten a lot better over the past few years. Great descriptions of the nominees and a PC was nominated for GOTY (u don't see that a lot these days). Honorable mentions would probably go to Alan Wake, Heavy Rain and Bad Company 2.
"Exclusives should never be awarded GOTY" Good thing it's not an exclusive. *Wink*
if anyone is interested this website here counts all the GotY picks from critics and readers. plus overall leader for the year. http://gotypicks.blogspot.c... the overall leader is not who you think it is. also this site is pretty cool as whoever this guy is works hard to gather all the info he needs for this.
ucme and talltony, You both played a demo only so please stfu.
The Demo is only the first cutscene and first 5mins of gamplay...the fact you have come to a conclusion after that tells me your GOTY choice is simply wrong. ME2 was the best game of 2010... just was.
@candystop Completely agree. How someone can base an entire series on one demo is beyond me. And this is a RPG, not a brain-dead shooter like CoD. I do believe there is story somewhere...
You played the demo. Mass Effect 2 is way more. It continues seamesly your game from ME1, and really starts waaay after demo ends. Play the (full) games, and be critic after that. And yeah, ME2 was my personal GOTY too. Gona revisit it once it comes out for PS3 too. And I was happy to see Starcraft 2 and Civ 5 on nominees, specially Civ 5.
um ME2 is multiplat?
Thought they were going to give it to another COD game.
ME2 is on PC, X360 and on PS3 in 19 days. What exclusive?
I highly disagree. If any game does something original or offers something unique whether retail, downloadable, indie, or exclusive then that game should be noticed and rewarded for their efforts. Also Mass Effect is not exclusive. --Mass Effect (Xbox 360/PC) = More then one platform. --Mass Effect 2 (PS3/Xbox 360/PC) = All 3 platforms. --Mass Effect 3 (PS3/Xbox 360/PC) = All 3 platforms.
"Exclusives should never be awarded GOTY." coz if that were to happen the xbox360 wouldnt have a game of the year at all since seeing for the last 3 years the ps3 exclusives absolutely dominated it. i still think they should have 5 categories for GOTY! xbox360 exclusive GOTY ps3 exclusive GOTY wii exclusive GOTY multiplat GOTY PC GOTY
Oh man, I was rooting for "splosion-man" to take it all ;P All kidding aside I pleased with the outcome. ME2 seemed the best in blending most aspects of gaming into one package (story, RPG"isk" elements, shooter, exploration, and an epic adventure). Despite the skeptical view I had about losing the RPG elements prior to launch, BioWare really did a fine job and should be proud.
BioWare = pixar of the gaming industry they have yet to make a bad game.
Thats great.I'm glad Mass Effect 2 is getting the recognition it deserves
its better than the Epic fail for best PS3 game of the year first the nomines were Rock Band 3 Red Dead Redemption and Black ops then god of war I can see God of war and RD but Rock Band and Black ops esp for ps3 has beeen such a horrible fail. I would have put in Heavy Rain MLB 10 and or Grand Turismo 5
It's so NOT goty.
Living up to your name
I guess I'll truly find out if it is when I play it in a few weeks.
Well the PS3 version is the GOTY Edition after all.
Another GOTY for ME2 makes me smile. It was my favorite game of the year and in 6 days I'll be playing it again.
Personally Mass Effect 1 was my GOTY in '07, and here we are again in 2010. Im so Happy PS3 owners will finally get to play this amazing game.
mass effect 2 is my 2nd choice for goty, after red dead redemption.
Mass Effect 1 & 2 are the best games this generation, I don't care what anybody else says. The story, the planets, the characters, the dialogue, exploration, action. Mass Effect series nails it.
Mass Effect is one of the best game series ever!
Ok... why did I get so many disagrees? We both praised the series, and you got 0 disagrees...
Maybe from someone who havent played the serie.. And I totally agree with you. ME3 can't come too early!
You said the best, he said one of the best. He was right but you are wrong. Mario galaxy is the best as both games are in the top 3 critically acclaimed alltime. Mass effect has an amazing story and memorable characters but smg has unmatched gameplay and level design.
Much better choice than the VGA.
Oh yeah. Mass Effect 2 is mos def GOTY.
shame on me for never playing a mass effect game... i'll pick it up on PS3
My GOTY was Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
A game of the year should be a exclusive well me2 is a Microsoft exclusive for now.
Game of the year should be for the best game of the year, exclusive or not.
ME2 is definitely my GOTY. I just adore the Mass Effect universe, I love the lore that Bioware has built in the Mass Effect series. It's as deep and even more interesting than Star Trek in my opinion. Well deserved. And Bioware are great devs, congrats.
Well, at least it's not CoD Black Ops. I literally CRINGE whenever a CoD game whens GoTy, or anything, for that matter. my personal GOTY choices were Heavy Rain God of War 3 Red Dead Redemption I ultimately chose Red Dead Redemption, but it was a hard choice. Mass Effect 2 was really good, but as a diehard Bioware fan, and a huge fan of the original Mass Effect, ME2 really disappointed me with some of the more radical game play departures. I appreciated the improved combat, but I didn't appreciate the complete scaling down of some of the RPG elements that I really enjoyed in ME2 (such as the various abilities and their functions. The story wasn't as large scale as ME1, but the characters and characterization were excellent, which is kind of expected from a Bioware game. The story was one big recruit mission, almost like a Heist film, but the because the player was in control of the flow of the game, the pacing didn't quite match the story being told. Everything in the ME2 story felt like you were being pressed for time, yet the game play was odds with it. It was very lacksadaisacal. You spent more time scanning planets for vital resources (trust me PS3 owners, you will WANT to scan every planet and upgrade your ship COMPLETELY. Just trust me on that). I enjoyed ME2 (i'm still playing through it, but my wife beat it 3 times, so i know the whole story), but I don't really think it was GoTY. A contender? Sure, maybe. Just not my personal contender. The problem with these gaming sites is that they try and come off as the authority on the year's games, when it's all just subjective opinion. I didn't do a traditional Best of 2010, because I don't see myself as being any more authoritative on the games than the next guy. I enjoyed a LOT of games last year (Mass Effect 2 among them), and in my Favorite Games of 2010 article, I tried to highlight them. Overall, 2010 was a fantastic year for games. The PS3 exclusives really shone, but the multi-platform games also really stepped it up. I think the 360 was lacking in super strong exclusives, but Mass Effect 2, Halo: Reach, and Alan Wake were quality (I didn't play Splinter Cell: Conviction; I bought Fable 3, being a Fable fan, but I'd hardly call it one of my favorite experiences of 2010).
No GoW nominee? Son, I am disapoint
