This time with the FUBARs, we’ll take a look at some games with plots that just didn’t go over very well.
Heavy Rain, Metroid: Other M, Final Fantasy XIII
Looking back at Final Fantasy 6 on its 30th anniversary provides a snapshot of one of gaming's most important franchises at a pivotal turning point.
Gary Green said: It’s interesting to revisit the roots of your favorite franchises to see first-hand what’s changed and what’s stuck around all these years, though perhaps ‘visit’ would be more accurate than ‘revisit’ since apparently, Europe wasn’t worthy of the original six Final Fantasy games the first time around. By the time we started getting ports of these iconic games, we’d already been through the PSOne JRPG golden age. So we’d already seen the best of what Final Fantasy had to offer, while these predecessors looked outdated, unrefined, and (dare I say it) ugly. We aren’t bitter about the delayed releases, honest…
I'd love to but square said fk you to the ps fanbase that wanted these physically. Meanwhile switch got a physical release.

I always go Yuna, Aerith, Rikku, Rinoa, and for some reason Vanilla, Ashe, Cindy, Lunafreya, Quistis
I have to disagree while heavy rain is a flawed game I don't think it is the worst story.
Uh oh, here come the Sony crybabies.
Final Fantasy was a pretty piss poor story
Other M was the first game with anything to do with the name Metroid that IO haven't loved. Ityt just wasn't the Samus I knew from all the other games. Sure, there are little signs in other games off her more soft, maybe feminine side but I just don't buy Other M Samus with her issues concerning father figures and men in general in Other M could behave as she does in the other cannon games. She's just too soft and not enough of the strong, silent bounty hunter I always took her for.
I realise that there's a whole reason for the Nintendo written(I think TN only did game play, iirc)story to have the leanings it did because there's a lot of Samus manga which, not being a fan, I haven't seen or read any of but even so it didn't seem like THIS Samus could be capable of the feats in the subsequent games with all her self doubt. In that regard Other M was a disappointing story for me personally(and the controls were pants AND just added awkwardness cheaply)but even with some of the most annoying lead actress voicing this year it REALLY wasn't down there with the worst.
HR was a TOUGH job for the writers and actors-tougher than, I think, any game ever made before or since in this respect. Because there are so many different story routes at every step writing it and , for the actors, knowing what your motivation was at all these times must have been hell. Even if we ignore the toughness of their jobs do we REALLY think it was among the worst this year?
Even FF13 ,which I found nothing better than a chore to get through, was a weak story for the series but compared to some campaigns it was Chekhov! Are we just going to talk about relatively good games stories always and forget the true horrors that arrive yearly in our PCs and consoles? Seriously, none of these were as complete as, say, Yakuza3, but they were better than something like bloody Dark Void which was sub Rocketeer nonsense. I felt sorry for Nolan North having to voice some of that crap until I remembered I'd be better feeling sorry for myself playing the bloody mess as I didn't get paid.
The Dark Void swallows all usurpers.
