Patrick Velky Writes: Anyone who’s been paying attention knows that 2011 is going to be an amazing year for gamers, especially shooter fans. Blockbusters like Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 3, and Resistance 3 are going to ensure a lot of empty wallets by this time next year. While each game offers a plethora of reasons to be excited, I’m willing to bet that the shooting aspect of the gameplay will remain largely familiar.
As a big shooter fan myself, I know I can be one of those players. But still I find it unsettling that there haven’t been any major innovations since the debut of the cover system. So, without further ado, I’d like to share some points of interest–things I see as areas for improvement–for future shooter games. I don’t purport to single-handedly reinvent the genre, but I’d like to open the floor for creative discussion, and, above all, remind gamers that they don’t have to be content with monotony.
