Miku Dances with Real-Time Motion Capture via Kinect

Yū Higuchi, the developer of the MikuMikuDance program that enables users to create dancing videos of Hatsune Miku, posted a video on Sunday to demonstrate real-time motion capture of dancing via the Kinect sensor. Microsoft released Kinect last month as an add-on to its Xbox 360 console to support 3D motion-sensing in games. However, independent programmers soon developed driver software to allow personal computers to connect to the Kinect sensor through the USB port. Crypton Future Media originally created the virtual idol Hatsune Miku to launch its line of Vocaloid vocal song synthesis software.

This should help you guys who think you know what the limitations of kinect are. You need to really back off and see what is done with this thing in the very near future. I am talking before summer. All these things have been done in less than 8 week. I am impressed! What about you?

Thank you Japan!

the 20 point tracking that the 360 is using.

this use a lot of CPU power so don't think that because this is running fast on the PC that kinect will do the same on 360.

but as time goes by the coding will get better in the Kinect SDK & we might get to see some games working this well.

jack who2912d ago (Edited 2912d ago )

yes and no

the problem (if you wanna call it that) m$ is limiting the kinect on the 360 till they can fix problems a have a better frameware so yes the kinect on the 360 can do wat those pc are doin.

Bigpappy2912d ago (Edited 2912d ago )

I agree 90%. I will wait and see what M$ does with the USB banwidth before writting off kinect approching this responsiveness. There have been a lot of folks on your side saying that this can not be done because of Kinect hardware limitations. This shows them that Kinect can do more that they think it can, and shows everyone that there are some on this site who just make shyt up and pretend to be experts when the product is not on PS3.

Edit: I did not copy "Jack Who". This is pure coincedence, but quite interesting.

I'm not saying that Kinect is not able to work this good on the 360 I'm saying that PrimeSense has a better tracking system then the one used in the Kinect SDK & that it use more of the CPU than the Kinect system, so maybe when the coding is better in the Kinect SDK we can see some games that work this well if they use the Primesense tracking system instead of the 22 point tracking system that they are using now or maybe just improve the 22 point tracking system that they are using,

Your Shape didn't use Kinects 22 point tracking system & it has the best response time of all the kinect games.

I have OpenNI and this software on my Laptop right now it works better than the kinect tracking system on the 360.

but i wonder why they are using an old windows
or is it just the theme ?

ingiomar2912d ago

processing power should not be a problem since it is confirmed that kinect DOES have its own CPU.

Cueil2911d ago

no and no and no... the limitations are all USB 2.0 and have nothing to do with the CPU on the 360... a tri-core 3.2ghz... but really I'm just wasting my time explaining this to a someone who doesn't care

What I want to see is, the person, software and actual real time movement. We see a tracker on the top right, but that's after the person has already moved and sent the signal to the game. I want to see all three at the same time to see if it is responding like it says.

Look nice. Now do it on the xbox.

but it just a Eyetoy lol

darkequitus2912d ago (Edited 2912d ago )

Keep telling yourself that, if it makes you sleep better.
here are so many proof of concepts on what Kinect can do. If it is just an eye to (ie web cam) don't you think they would go down the nearest Bestbuy or Dixons and bought a cheapo logitech webcam?

You --->lol

He was making fun of the people who say that it's just an Eyetoy.

Wow, I guess there are so many posibilities with this one.

Lord_Doggington2912d ago

haha at the disagrees. if this were done on the ps3, the fanboys would be all over this..

this is an amazing demonstration of this tech. just so cool.

funny how he kept bending over to mess w/ the computer and it showed her bending over too
