2010 Could Have Been Better – For Gaming

Ripten writes: ''I can’t help but feel at the close of 2010 that this year was a perfectly servicable, but not great, year of gaming. Whenever I bring this up to friends and colleagues, they disagree with me, citing Call of Duty: Black Ops or Red Dead Redemption, rattling off about their experiences in Halo: Reach or Heavy Rain. I feel like a contrarian. No matter what game released this year, from the ones that I loved the most (Mass Effect 2 and Super Meat Boy) all the way down to those that I liked the least (I’ll single out Fable III here), each had some significant flaw that I thought detracted from the experience, enough so to keep them from being legendary releases.''

The fact this article exists is a testament to how good this year was.

If games like Mass Effect 2 and RDR were not good enough then what will be!?

2011 looks amazing but that's what everyone said about 2010!!

Quagmire5028d ago

2011 looks to include some heavy hitters, but will the trend continue to 2012? Or will there be a sudden decline? Hope not.

yeah too bad reach and black ops were disappointing

Sitris5028d ago

Disagree, Final Fantasy 13, to me was one of my favourites in the series, i liked how they took risks by forcing you to play as a certain character, it made the story far more immersive, loved every second of FF13.

jaredhart5029d ago

2010 was pretty damn good though.

KingNintendoFanboy5029d ago

I thought 2010 was an amazing year.

Deathstroke5029d ago

2010 was meh. It had a few good games but only a few games really stood out. 2011 will be much better seeing as how you'll have games like Duke Nukem Forever, Uncharted 3, Elder Scrolls 5 (with a new engine), Portal 2, Mortal Kombat (finally going back to it's roots but with an improved combat system), The Last Guardian, and many more.

Philoctetes5029d ago

Agreed. I played some good games in 2010, but 2011 is going to be a lot better.

How can you agree with the whole comment? This entire article is silly to begin with. It is an example of the problems in gaming media. There is no sanity. It's either universe shifting awesome or claw your eyes out dreadful. Everything can't be the best every time there is a thing. There is a reason that no Uncharted 2 was released this year. It was released last year. Every game can't be Game of the Year. That doesn't mean gaming wasn't good/excellent/awesome. Next year has a very good outlook. Who is to say how it will end up? This current year had a good outlook and it ended up as a very good year for gaming. The only thing "meh" around here is the abundance of hyperbole peddlers wearing "gaming media" clothing.

Red Dead Redemption's PC Port Confirmed Irrefutably After 14 Years

The official PS Store description of Red Dead Redemption has given away the imminent arrival of the game on PC.

OtterX43d ago

The best part about this no doubt will be the modding community. I'm sure some really talented individuals will give it a proper graphical overhaul.

RaidenBlack43d ago

GTA IV pc port was abysmal ... and RDR1 came just after GTA IV ... I am more worried about the base port job than mod support later

just_looken43d ago

Lets hope its not as bad as the ps4 port job

DaReapa43d ago

I'll be getting this despite already having it on PS3. RDR is one of the few series I'd double dip for.

SwiftyMagee43d ago

If you check the Sony store site, the reference to a PC port has been taken down. So right now there is no definitive proof but I imagine some sort of announcement will happen soon, maybe in the coming weeks. I'm picturing a fall release if it happens in 2024.

Number1TailzFan43d ago

Kind of expecting RTX remix for this

TheNamelessOne43d ago

Finally. I'll double-dip for this one, considering it's a solid port.
