MAG surpases 1million units sold

News has been leaked by a MAG forum member, Sniper768, siting that VGChartz.com is reporting the Sony PS3 exclusive Massive Action Game (MAG) has reached the milestone of over one million units sold.

This would mean MAG joins the likes of Warhawk & Socom: Confrontation in this elite status as one of the few ONLINE ONLY games to surpass the one million units sold mark.

Congrats Zipper for reaching 1 million copies sold

deadreckoning6664877d ago

2 choices:

1. Hail M.A.G surpassing 1 million units sold, but accept VGchartz as a reliable source.

2. Stay true to the invalidity of VGchartz and accept that M.A.G just ain't that popular.

Shanks4877d ago (Edited 4877d ago )

You got it all wrong.
When it come to VGChartz.. the game probably sold more.

thebudgetgamer4877d ago

popular does not equal good.

walker014877d ago

verybody normally complains that vgcarts has lower numbers than there should be so if theyre saying 1mil then we can expect at least 1mil copies sold.

if it wer the other way around then fine:)

JoeReno4877d ago

@budgetgamer

Your statement as a whole is true, but you are trolling this thread. So while i Wouldnt feel right clicking disagree, i Would however feel justified voting bubble down.

JoeReno4877d ago

You are implying that MAG while reaching the 1mil milestone (popular) is not a good game

thebudgetgamer4877d ago (Edited 4877d ago )

example:

paul blart mall cop made hundereds of million dollars while observe and report did not make nearly that much but was a way better movie.

it was in response to dead saying mag was not a popular game.

BlackTar1874877d ago

joe i dont think thats what he was implying.

Boody-Bandit4877d ago (Edited 4877d ago )

3. It's VGChartz so it probably sold considerably higher.

Congrats Zipper

never_waste_a_bullet4877d ago (Edited 4877d ago )

theres only about 300 people per faction in any game mode when I get on... it's disappointing b/c it' such a good game..

I live in New York

ComboBreaker4877d ago (Edited 4877d ago )

OR accept the third choice.

3. Hail M.A.G surpassing 1 million units sold, but DOES NOT accept VGchartz as a reliable source since VGChartz always underestimate the sales of PS3 games. It means M.A.G. sold a lot more than one millions.

DaTruth4877d ago (Edited 4877d ago )

In before "shipped not sold", that certain people couldn't accept and said it was impossible to track every console sold everywhere when Sony said it, but now accept it when MS says they track Kinect sold through to consumer!

Oops, just made a point that shines a bad light on supporters of a certain console! See you guys in 4 days!

internalbit4877d ago

Since its vgchartz it would be well over 1 million. $60 a game so about 60 mill earned. Taking into account dev cost, marketing, etc to be less than 60 millon therefore profit for Sony and therefore more games like this for us.

MAG is a good game but consolers just don't like to use team work. They prefer to just go Rambo, get a bunch of kills even if their team looses the round. hence the huge Black Ops numbers and plus MAG requires skill and tactics versus the arcade feel of Black ops.

cyguration4877d ago

That's why I like Battlefield, Operation 7 and MAG....they're team based shooters where you can exploit people running and gunning use Black Ops tactics.

I recently played Battlefield Play4Free and it's amazing how much more organized and intense it is than Black Ops.

candystop4877d ago

I just want a proper all new Rainbow 6 to be announced soon. Teamwork is definitely a thing of the past that needs to come back in style.

OT: Great numbers

princejb1344877d ago

you are so correct
this is why in call of duty games i depend on myself, since my teammates are usually doing their own thing

khellendros14877d ago

Yeah, I've seen Squads in Battlefield and MAG sweep through together and wipe out teams that try and play Rambo style. It gets ugly when you don't play as some sort of team. Even as a sniper you should try and keep an eye on your squad mates to back them up.

vg chatz is not reliable source...

oldjadedgamer4877d ago

Do to VGCharts being a worthless website with worthless data,

I think we all need to take a step back and wait until more quality data comes to light to take an opinion.

IF MAG has reached 1 million sales, then congrats to its devs and Sony. If not, then it is still a fun game that will probably hit that number eventually.

It probably means it sold 1.3mill or something like that. This is great news and definitely means Sony can do a MAG2 if they wanted.

It's a shame though, over 1mill sold but you can hardly get 5k people online playing it. I got into a match last week and it took me 5mins to get in and the 128v128 mode only had 100 people on.

That's crazy and all while BO has over 300k at any given time. This game is way better than BO and it's a shame many gamer don't know this.

Let's hope MAG2 has a single player and more recognition.

scar204877d ago

*This game is way better than BO and it's a shame many gamer don't know this.

What do you expect man not many people like working as a team majority just prefer to be rambo xDDD.

princejb1344877d ago

well you better advertise your friends
nothing is more powerful than word the mouth
not even marketing

Black-Helghast4877d ago

Will Killzone 3 bring a team work mode or something? For example, that game type from halo reach thats 2v2v2v2v2 and the team who has more kills wins. I hope a game type like that, i'm more of a team player. :)

TANUKI4877d ago

Congrats Zipper/Sony.

I wonder if that means a GH version is on its way?

jukins4877d ago

Been greatest hits since summer time

TANUKI4877d ago

Oh... that's embarrassing...

Thanks for the heads up.

Trroy4877d ago

...which kind of says something about when MAG likely passed 1M units. VGChartz usually underestimates PS3 stuff.

Sagetech4877d ago

VGcharts is where i stopped reading

MidnytRain4877d ago

Technically, you stopped reading at "reporting". :P

SuperStrokey11234877d ago

Im surprised its not more, its a very fun game if you get a good squad.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

CrimsonWing6940m ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker27m ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo17m ago(Edited 16m ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing697m ago(Edited 7m ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos6h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto5h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger885h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
