Kurisu4873d ago

So I'm guessing this is why Mass Effect 2 on PS3 looks better than the 360 version in side by side comparisons. It'll be interesting to see which version of ME3 will look better --- but tbh I don't care about that, I'm just glad that I'll finally have the chance to play the game!

scar204873d ago

Same here comparisons are stupid i just wanna play and blow stuff up.

divideby04873d ago

believe me... after playing ME2 and dealing with the chug n chug at times, you will welcome the new engine..

DORMIN4873d ago

I've got the LBP2 CE preordered and beat ME2 on PC...

hmm, I might be getting this still, just for ME3.

tplarkin74872d ago

@divideby0 There is no chug n chug in ME2. ME2 is very polished on 360 and runs at steady frame rate of 30 fps or more at all times.

There were major loading hiccups and frame rate issues in ME1, though.

mikeslemonade4872d ago

Still it's the unreal engine isn't it not?

UCMEandICU4872d ago

Looking forward to renting this game in summer. I've heard good things about it so it's one of my top games during the summer drought.

Commander_TK4872d ago (Edited 4872d ago )

PC version will still be the best, but I can't wait for the game on PS3

Active Reload4872d ago

ME 2-3 engine? I think you all mean the UE3, lol.

Active Reload4872d ago

I get 2 disagrees? Mass Effect trilogy is using the Unreal Engine 3...dummies!

P1NKY4872d ago (Edited 4872d ago )

I have already played the first Mass Effect on Xbox so not being able to play the first ME on PS3 isn't too much a of a problem for me personally.

I'm just happy that I can continue playing this amazing game on PS3.

jjank114872d ago

@divideby0......I didn't notice any chug, it was alot more fluid gameplay and load times. Did you do an install of the game?

RageAgainstTheMShine4872d ago

Cool news! Quality game is again assured on the PS3

SIX4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

This is how it looks

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

@WhiteNoise
Regardless, it's nice to see an improvement. Most companies would be content to just simply port and not put in some extra effort. Bioware has my respect.

WhiteNoise4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

@Six

I forgot what 30 frame gameplay looks like...it looks painful.

@Six

From the looks of that footage, it is exactly the same as the 360 version. In the trailers for the different classes they had footage of that red corridor on Omega that was in the video, it looks 100% identical to that footage. True better optimisation is good, which is my point below, the new engine tools are for performance, not for visual increase, which is why it looks the same.

SIX4873d ago

The video is way too compressed to truely tell. IGN says it looks smoother so I guess that's an opinion that's more trust worthy than both of ours. Ultimately, we won't know until we get the game in our hands. ME2 in my opinion is GOTY so good on PS3 owners.

WhiteNoise4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

@Sillyace92

;)

I couldn't help myself.

XabiTheHumble4873d ago

@WhiteNoise are you stupid? the 360 version looks faded next to the ps3 version.

Shepherd 2144872d ago

Ive beaten the game twice, the 360 version does not look that faded. I dont know what IGN did to the 360's footage, but things like the guns and Jacob's face looked pretty similar to that PS3 footage when i played it on my 32" vizio in 1080p.

No Way4872d ago (Edited 4872d ago )

The sad thing is this, BioWare is an amazing studio..
But, people here didn't give them their respect *Until* :

EA acquired BioWare and announced Mass Effect 2 for PS3.

jwk944872d ago

I dont see how u guys are gonna dispute about which one looks better when it's clear that the ps3 version is better because it's running on me3's engine which is more updated. Come on people, use common sense.

Christopher4872d ago

@NoWay: You're kidding, right? BioWare is one of the most celebrated development teams going back to the 90s when they worked on the Baldur's Gate series.

jrbeerman114872d ago

@cgoodno

Your absolutely right, but there are a lot of younger or ignorant people who still didn't give Bioware their due since ME2 was not on their PS3.

@No way

Just because ignorant fanboys are the loudest and post the most does not mean they are the majority of opinion. I did see a lot of PS3 fans putting down ME2, but that was probly because they wanted it and couldnt get it.

No Way4871d ago

Nawh.. I'm not kidding, actually.
Although, I made a mistake. I meant the fanboys.
I love BioWare. They are an amazing studio, as I stated.

But, countless time's theirs been articles where the majority of the people on this site, (although pretty much all of them were PS3 fanboys) hating on Mass Effect and BioWare.
In fact, a couple times, I've seen people here state "what has BioWare ever done?!" Yes, you heard me right. That's the reason for my statement.

I wont buy this game on day one because LITTLE BIG PLANET 2 comes out the same day. Not only is Little big planet a better game but more Importantly Mass Effect 2 cost less on PC and 360. But if you must get it the price of EA games go down really fast and it will be 30 bucks in 3 months....

Nitrowolf24873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

LBP2 would be first for me
but luckily i am buying both day one

Aloren4873d ago

How can you even compare LBP and ME ? they're nothing alike...

And it's just a matter of opinion really, I personally finished ME2 4 times and bought LBP for 10 euros a few months after its release and could never finish it... Damn, we're nemesises :-D

Pollak4872d ago

LBP better game?!? I strongly disagree with that. Yeah LBP has some fantastic tools and the community will create some awesome stuff but the core game play (the platforming) is average at best. Even then it's a silly comparison.

vickers5004872d ago (Edited 4872d ago )

I'm getting Mass Effect 2 day one, while I'm going to wait for LittleBigPlanet2. Honestly, I didn't enjoy the first LBP as much as everybody else. Everything about LBP was great except the character movement. It felt like you were a frozen anvil (heavy and slippery landings). Also there was no double jump.

I'm still getting LBP2, but I'm waiting on it, because I would rather have a great story based game with my preferred style of play (shooting things) than a cool little platformer that's going to take a long time before anybody makes mini games that are worthwhile.

Blacktric4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

The thing I'm wondering is; will smaller choices that carried over to Mass Effect 2 from the first one will be in the comic?

***Spoilers from the earlier part of Mass Effect 1***

For example, when you let Fist (the guy who lured Tali into the Saren's agents' trap) live in the first game and imported your save, you could find him at at the nightclub at Omega.

***End of spoilers***

I know this isn't such a big deal. But it'd also be nice to see these in the PS3 version of the game. Anyway, ordered my Dualshock 3 and Mass Effect 2. Gonna finish it over and over with different classes and different moral choices.

kissmeimgreek4873d ago

@ blacktric

Im pretty sure its gonna be similar to what ME2 did with people that didnt have ME1 saves (what i did my first playthrough). They just assume a lot of the major decisions and you have no input. Because new players wouldnt get some references to ME1, you dont even get to see most of the repercussions of your small choices in ME2 (which i learned in my second playthrough :)

Basically, If you want the full experience of the trilogy you should go for PC or 360. One of the coolest memories of mine this gen. is finding out that bug queen thing i saved thank me. Completely forgot about it until i saw her liason in ME2.

visualb4872d ago

i agree with the passing your game over argument. we can only blame business and MS for that.

however, playing ME1, all i'll do is remember my actions (not hard to forget =P) and follow through with them on the comic =)

thus, my ME experience will be completely passed onto my ME2 game =D!!!

my advicE:

if you have a PS3 only, and want to experience a great game and the full thing, get ME for PC (it runs on anything) and play it, remember your actions then pass them onto ME2, its as good as having the first for PS3

04soldier4873d ago

Can't wait to get this in my PS3 and see what all the hubub was about..

jack_burt0n4873d ago

wow the ps3 version looks alot better, good to see.

Muitnorts4873d ago

I'm sort of annoyed that I have to choose between versions tbh. I much prefer PS3 and trophies etc but I suppose it makes more sense continuing my story from ME1 and ME2...

I might pick up 2 and 3 when they're really cheap!

tacosRcool4873d ago

Well getting nicer and nicer as days go by! Alongside some DLC and a new engine, good thing I didn't buy this on PC yet so I'll wait for when it comes out on the PS3!

chainer30004872d ago

I'm sure the engine will be much more refined by the time ME3 hits shelves - this is more of a preview of it I assume. The graphical update is welcome - I did get a bit of "chug" on my 360, none on my PC, so I'm interested to see how well it will preform on the ps3.

Huge bioware fan, I'll buy any game they make that is worthwhile on each platform if they offer different content (my ME1-2 on 360 were barebones, PC was fully DLC equiped, ps3 comes with the DLC and interactive start, making it easier to enjoy vastly different play throughs!). The way they have released ME2, it was hard not to buy it for all 3 platforms.

jrbeerman114872d ago

I love ME2, I have over 5 playthroughs 4 being on insanity. I will also be getting this for PS3 so I can maybe change some ME1 decisions that I never made with ME1 to see how it works with ME2.

(PS3 new comers play this on high difficulties as it has more RPG elements. On normal it can be played like most shooters, high difficulties forces you to use combinations of abilities and change team layout depending on what enemies and protection they have. A much richer experience. Also soldier is most boring class)

bananlol4872d ago

I do agree about the difficulty but i thought the soldier class was the best. You get access to more health and the heavy machine gun. And you have access to your teammates abilities, and given that they cant die i thought it was the ultimate layout.

Vherostar4872d ago

Yep just shows if you use 2 different engines on the same game what can happen.

CrIpPeN4872d ago

I think after starting to enjoy modding content and usually better version on PC.

I think I will get Mass Effect 1 and 2 on PC.

When I get a real gaming rig that can play the games smoothly.

xAlmostPro4872d ago

om guessing due to this the ps3 mass effect 3 will also look better, now they've had time to code for the ps3 in the me3 engine.. plus they'll probably use ps3 as lead platform for me3 like most ea games..

still this is pretty good, nice to see a company appreciate console for what they are cant wait for this EA :)

jrbeerman114872d ago

I would rather have ME3 on PS3 (mostly due to 1 Blu ray instead of 2 or 3 dvds). Will buy ME2 on PS3 in hopes that not too much is lost from ME1 (with comics and all).

Need an excuse to play a few more times anyways.

jimmins4872d ago

The 360 version looks better. I have both games in front of me right now - yes, I work in the industry. The PS3 version suffers from antialiasing issues as well as simplified geometry.

No one will believe me and that's fine. But when the game hits the shelves, don't say I didn't warn you.

ravinash4872d ago

I'll wait and see.
Its not out yet, plus it depends on how old is your build.

Christopher4872d ago

Really? Crap, let me go blog about it because random guy jimmins on the Interwebs said so...

xAlmostPro4872d ago

lol what a liar..

we have seen it, you know these videos that show waaaaaay more detail on the ps3 version, it looks better and runs better but its on a new engine, dont cry :)

jimmins4872d ago (Edited 4872d ago )

@ravinash

It's the review build.

@cgoodno

I already said I don't expect anyone to believe me, but just sometimes, you can get reliable information from the most random of places. I came to this thread because I wanted to see if any other reviewers had clocked the same things we already have. That's all.

Even the guys on our PS3 mag are saying the same thing.

@xalmostpro

Of course. A compressed video is a much more reliable source than having both the finished games side-by-side.

Nitrowolf24873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

Interesting to see how it performs. I am assuming ME3 should run and look better considering that it will be built from ground up rather then transfered over. That is awesome to that we get to try the new engine out, this was unexpected as i don't think anyone would have thought that they would use their next game engine and thought it would just be a port with a few touch ups.

Much respects to Bioware, this is how your suppose do a port.

chainer30004872d ago

they don't fuck it up porting it over :) With bioware, I doubt they will. I've never felt ripped off by their products, only by their DLC from time to time. Never feels rushed, always nicely polished.

redwolf4873d ago (Edited 4873d ago )

I knew it, there was a noticeable difference between the PS3 and 360 version when IGN compared

gamerzBEreal174873d ago

wow serious? and there calling are version the gimped one?

candystop4873d ago

What's are version? Not sure why this has to be about who's better and what not. Glad to see this game getting played by as many gamers as possible.

gamerzBEreal174873d ago

ps3 owners...and ask the people who said this version is gimped without mass effect 1

Jack-Pyro4872d ago

While not gimped in any way shape or form, you are missing out on a lot by not having Mass Effect 1, but if you needed too you could just play it on a friends Xbox, or the PC to get the backstory.

bageara4872d ago

but the whole idea of the interactive backstory comic is you dont need to play ME1 to get the backstory, you can even make your decisions in it that carry over to ME2

Djinn4872d ago

your not missing out on a damn thing, now gtfo xbot

SonyPS3604872d ago

Because a 15 minute comic totally makes up for missing out on a 40+ hour game.

Come on, you're missing out. Admit it. It's a shame but it's true.

Jack-Pyro4872d ago (Edited 4872d ago )

Djinn, you gtfo, I dare say we don't need another sony fanboy....we're quite covered on that one here at N4G.

I wasn't trying to make the PS3 version seem less in any way, it's gonna be an awesome game, but even with that interactive comic, your still missing out on a 40 hour + experience, one of the best this generation. Why you would think I'm an Xbot for pointing that out is beyond me. =/

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave13d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan13d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
