Asura's Wrath is said to be inspired by ‘Asian mythology’ and fused with science fiction, and Capcom say it will “redefine the action genre by delivering unprecedented levels of dynamism, drama and interaction.”
it's too obscure and the Eastern elements will be frowned upon by the Western media. Sci-fi without space marines just won't go over well. People (including reviewers) are relatively set in their perspectives at this point. Bayoneta and Vanquish were exceptions, not the rule, nor the start of a trend. See: Binary Domain for further examples of Japanese/ Western games that just miss the mark.
I for one am looking forward to this, trailer was over the top sick. The only capcom game I want
Then I may have an interest on it. I buy western games from western companies and eastern games from east. You won't see me visiting Japan just so that I can eat Subway/Mc'ds/KFC. -End of Line
"Once a revered deity, Asura was betrayed by his fellow gods and stripped of all his powers. Consumed by anger at the injustice he has suffered and swearing vengeance, Asura discovers he can use this fury to his advantage and turn it against his enemies. " Asian Kratos?
Im curious about it, but I think 'us' Western people that still enjoy the heavy Eastern elements are drying up.
I will be checking it out, as it appeals to my - Otaku - tastes and is made by Cyberconnect. That said, I can see this missing the market and going right over most reviewers' heads.
Yip, sad but true.
precisely , and from the tgs teaser alone you had plenty already writing it off as a "japanese gow wannabe" . Some of us folks are already used to cyberconnect2's great track record and games knows better , but we are a fringe .
your probably right Chris but i know im probably getting this only because its developed by Cyberconnect2. I doubt it redefines the action genre in unprecedented levels of dynamism, drama and interaction thats what GOW did.
i agree ..cyberconnect2 know his stuff . Naruto games , hack// games plenty of fun .. i doubt capcom could make them miss their touch.
Capcom: Asura's Wrath will "redefine the action genre" Just like RE5, hehe... Oh wait
Set in their perspectives? A good game's a good game. Persoanlly, I couldn't give a monkey's about a sci-fi game having space marines in or not.
But JRPGs and niche Japan-centric titles. That was sarcasm btw.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you... 1st Capcom can promote it because they have the funds to help it get the right amount of exposure. 2nd The over populated FPS market has left many gamers wanting something different and there are still very few action adventure/hack N' slash games coming out. 3rd If the game can provide a unique enough experience that appeals to the casual audiance while maintaining the depth for the hard core it will help boost it's appeal factor. 4th many gamers are still big fans of eastern martial arts action flicks so the art direction and story will draw in those gamers as well. I for one am going to pick it up because it's being developed by CyberConnect 2 and they are masters at crafting eastern sytled art and combat and if it's going to be a revolution for the action adventure genre like many are thinking then it will be a killer app.
and correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't their last financials not so hot? http://www.gamepro.com/arti... They'll be putting their focus on marketing dollars for 3DS Resident Evil and the DMC reboot. There are very few companies who "care" about the type of material that they present and most of them rarely turn any sort of substantial profit or hold a significant share of the market. NIS and Atlus are prime examples. 12 million COD purchases (pulling that Black Ops number out of my a$$, but wasn't it like 7 million on day one? It's certainly more by now) just spoke on our behalf for the industry. It's a bit misguided to think that a publisher would ignore that sort of gravitas just to cater to a niche NA market for Eastern flavored games. I'm predicting mediocre sales and negligible advertising for this title. I do hope I'm wrong, but that's what industry trends would indicate.
@Chris399 Of course Capcom doesn't have unlimited funds...silly :) You do have some faults to your logic 1st games like Devil May Cry 4, God of War 3 and Ninja Gaiden prove that action adventure games can still get great sales figures. 2nd publishers and developers are well aware of the fact that very few titles will ever reach the 6 millions and above units sold which is why we see titles like Vanquish, Castlevania Lords of Shadow, Bayonetta, Enslaved. 3rd if a game like Naruto UNS 2 can put up over a million units sold then eastern games for a western audiance is not a niche market. Based on your thought process I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you favor FPS titles over other genres. I can argue this because if you were a fan of these so called niche genres you would be well aware of how strong the sales are. Speaking to the whole arguement that mainstream media focus is placed on FPS's is proof of my personal belief. That would be the fact that most journalists are sheep and go with the flow...this then trickles down to the less informed gamers who believe it as truth. Myself and others are constantly trying to spread the word to our fellow gamers to ignore journalists who have developed bad biased trends and instead favor the small blogger who does not get paid for his opinion because that is where the real gamer lives...that being said that does not mean that all bloggers are unbiased. I hope you see what I mean.
Seriously, the plot can be describe what if Kratos was asian. definitely simply GOW copy
'Tis God of War without the retarded combat and twice the RAGE. What's not to like? @visualb Mash SQUARE. SQUAREEEEEE. Occasional roll. THAT's the retarded combat. "seriously you are one sour gamer..." Nah, I enjoy games, I just see the flaws in them. And honestly, I'm not "trolling". It's my personal opinion on the game.
without the retarded combat? whats so retarded about GOW's combat? seriously you are one sour gamer... GOW isn't necessarily innovative in its gameplay, but its solid as a rock, and its great fun even for hack&slash fans just because rrw trolls, doesn't mean you need to troll back.
i doubt you have a ps3 -_-
@visualb GOW combat is not that deep. It's plenty fun but except in the timing in harder difficulties.. there is nothing deep in GOW battle system Bear in mind it's quite fun ..a lot of fun actually.
can't wait for this! -Ninja Gaiden 3- is sick!:)
As much as I'm interested in the game, reading that press release, the story sounds like a carbon copy of God of War in as much as, he was once a god...was betrayed by the gods who stripped all of his powers...and is now fuming, swearing vengeance upon them :/ I hope thats the only similarity it has with God of War's story.
it probably will have some similarities but you have to understand a lot of Asian mythology is like that. I just hope the game is long but since it is CyberConnect2 it will probably be like 20 hours.
@Optical - Fail comment You seem to be convince that the GOW character and story is original. Clash of the Titains says hi and I am talking about the film that came out in 1981. http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
You know what guys ? I remember actraiser and other stuff far more than GoW .... so i dont care if you feel it's a GoW rip off . 90% of the people who didnt touch Darksiders said the same thing , and didnt get the right clue ... their loss
You guys seem to think i'm hating on the game. I love Cyberconnect 2's games. What I'm saying is, that, for their sake, I hope that the story manages to differentiate itself from God of War because, an action game that is full of Asian mythology is something that excites me. @R2D2 - Yeah mate. I know what the film is. But I'm talking about within the space of Videogames. I know God of War's story isn't original. Calm down.
Of course they are right. After all, Enslaved turned out to be their Uncharted. As in it didn't chart at all.
I am getting tired of this. it seem other developer try to Copy sony first party game. we know that sony have huge variety game ranging from uncharted to ICO and making huge success and many award form it. but i am getting tired form this copy cat. (dante inferno, majin, enslaved, etc).
And as an aside, it's pretty clear that there is a significant lack of originality in the games sector these days. Most publishers back games that they think will sell, not what they think is the most creative. Look at how stagnant and repetitive the MMO market is, where everything is a WOW clone (which is just an EQ clone). Little has changed in over a decade.
Is that Goku? lol kidding
only interested because CyberConnect is a huge part of this. Other than that I couldn't give a crap about Capcom.
If they are really using asian mythology, it will be awesome. For the record most mythologies are all very similar. Just saying, so the only thing I see it borrowing from GOW is QT events, and if i remember correctly most of the GODS are of the earth somehow, I could be mistaken, lol, too many mythologies on the brain. But I think that would help to explain the trailer with the hands coming out of the sky to some degree. Honestly it could possibly be better than GOW, If they do the story and gameplay right. I know it definitely won't match the aesthetics of GOW because its not exclusive to any platform. I wish Santa Monica would do games based on all mythologies.
this game looks awesome =) lets hope they keep their word and really add something innovative! with GOW series over, we need a new super epic hack&slasher to fill the up and coming void!
"we need a new super epic hack&slasher to fill the up and coming void!" Bayonetta. However, I agree; the game looks good. Even so, I'll wait to see how it turns out before saying anything.
i will return just wait
Didn't Namco say the same about Enslaved?
we've heard this from you before, capcom.
I am waiting to see some gameplay of this game. But It does have my interest right now. The only thing I cannot understand is why the are using the Unreal Engine 3 for the game. CyberConnect has a great graphics engine, so why use another engine for this game?
Would rather wait for Bayonetta 2. Oh no, dont get me wrong, the trailer for Asura looked over the top, slick & awsome, but when you have Hideki Kamiya teasing a sequel to one of my favorite Hack & Slash games.......
Considering capcom's quality streak (or lack thereof), I very much doubt the quality of this game.
Good luck beating Bayonetta.
