Activision Has 'Nothing But Love' for Harmonix, Not Giving Up On Guitar Hero

One of the many things we talked about with Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, in IndustryGamers' recent interview was the declining music space, and the fact that Guitar Hero and Rock Band creator Harmonix is now up for sale. A number of analysts have pointed out that it would make sense in a way to consolidate the competing music game brands and reunite Harmonix with Guitar Hero. But will Activision acquire the Boston-based developer?

It would be nice in a way to see what Harmonix would do with Guitar Hero, coming back to the franchise they created.

[Insert Activision is evil comment here]

It would be Rock Band... it would suffer the same lack of evolution as both Rock Band and Guitar Hero... it would be no different...

I definetly don't play my rockband 1/2 as much as I used to, but Activison better keep their mitts off Harmonix. That company is amazing. Activision to this day is milking the life out of their franchises...

Gotta, say I'm getting tired of both Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Its like Madden.

Then I must say, I can't wait for Guitar Hero: Justin Bieber to come out. MAKE IT A REALITY ACTIVISION! I'm pretty sure it'll sell billions and Kotick's income rate will be exploded like diarrhea from a buffalo.

I love Rock Band but they need to make game expandable and not just the music collection. A weekly/daily challenge like Halo Reach would be interesting. Guitar is just a s*** hole of a music game and makes the genre look bad. I hope Activision passes or the whole genre is over and I best sell my music stuff now.

While i appreciate the gesture.... all of these retro classics have been made available everywhere else. I am hoping to see some other Activision properties make their way out of the shackles of the 5th, 6th and 7th gen. Licensing be damned... bring back the Transformers Cybertron games.

P_Bomb33d ago

Love the Cybertron games! TF games have been shit lately. Would love to see that era revisited. I even did the multiplayer!

MrBaskerville32d ago

Is the retro classics for all consoles?

Obscure_Observer33d ago

It’s a HELL of a game. If you like JRPGs in the family of Persona, you will be in heaven… that is until you hear the various battle music…. then you’ll be somewhere BEYOND heaven!

Only a big company that has interest in gaming like Microsoft or Tencent could have acquired Activision. Extremely low interest rates at that time certainly helped.

Not exactly sure that a merger with EA would’ve benefited any of their franchises or gamers. I imagine it would’ve been like the activision blizzard one were each publisher retains their own identity. So Activison-Blizzard-EA. But who knows.

fsfsxii130d ago

If it was owned by EA, COD could’ve disappeared a looong time ago. They have no clue how to manage franchises.

Gamingsince1981117d ago

It's a shame EA didn't buy them then, COD should die, it's past its prime and has been since black ops 2, I started playing it when cod 4 mw first came out and it has been downhill since.

thank goodness we dodged that landmine 😒
