I actually hope so... I know people are gonna blast me for this but I really don't like so many games going multi-platform myself... I need a reason to buy my PS3. But if it is indeed exclusive, I won't be surprised, been speculating it'd be when it was announced.
I agree, but my reason is that I want the ps3-games to be as good as they possible can be. The xbox-360 really makes the ps3-games worse than the need to be.
Blue sphere for GBC, and till the end of time for ps2.
I own The original Star ocean for the famicom *with the dejap translation applied to a copied cart* as well as 2nd story, Blue sphere, and till the end of time directs cut edition.
So I know what im talking about.
Edit: incase of the disagrees no there hasn't been 2 star ocean games since 2nd story no! absolutely not, and those games haven't been paled comparisons that have done badly critically and in sales compared to star ocean, and 2nd story.*rolls eyes* damn disagree trolls.*
But I'm pretty sure it's a PS3 exclusive. They said it would be Exclusive to one console. It's a title with Japanese interest from Square Enix. Who do you think is getting it? XBOX 360?
Agreed and along with SO2 being annouced for PSP, i guess i finally have a top reason to get a PSP (along with GT and God of War coming out on it aswell)
Now this was my first ever S.O game and i must admit. It DOES rival FF. The first and only game that i can honestly say to give them a good run. If you have not played it before, you should. It's a good 250 hours long, and like FF it has some HUGE lightshows.
Well, It's kinda OBVIOUS that Enix bring some love to PS3 since Enix give the Dragon Quest series to DS and now they're give his Star Ocean love to PS3. I'm glad for this news... I CAN'T WAIT!!!
By the way and maybe I'm quite off topic right now but this news and one that I'm waiting so much about the prequel of KH it gonna make my rest of the year... Thanks S-E and bring KH to the PSP and make some used over the Core Crisis Engine with Kingdom Hearts spin-off ^_^.
You know, I am dissappointed that DQIX was for the DS. Feels like a step backwards after DQVIII. Hopefully DQX comes out soon for either the Wii, PS3, or 360 so that we could see what they can really do with the franchise.
i doubt infinite undiscovery is still being worked on, no news has come out since it was announced, i dont think they're makin it anymore.
and star ocean is an action style rpg, with huge worlds, amazing battle system and a great weapons, armor, items, accesories synthesis system. and now being able to travel to other planets by ship, sounds way more massive now. i got in 200 hours easy in part 3, im sure i will in this game too.
and for people who pass it up because its japanese, your missing out, its not turned based or anything like that, its more like a fighting game, heck they even have a versus mode in part 3, the series has always been really deep.
It's Square Enix... So, I think it's safe to asume that anything they make will not be on the xbox 360. I guess this is a way of saying they don't want an american console to take over their gaming industry. If all these games would be multiplatform one can only imagine what would happen with the PS3.
IF Square Enix games were Multi then Sony would be in big trouble, but from what I've seen thus far, most games they make are usually exclusive to one console, so they can get the most out of that console.
Oh never thought of Last Remnant. Updated my post. Switched the all to most.
regardless of what the pundits whom disagreed with bladster think it wouldn't surive, Sqaure games are the only real reason to own an ps3 any more.
Same with the psp the only reason i got it is for the square games, and the other strat rpgs, and other jrpgs being released for it, and castlevania rondo of blood remake, with the remade directs cut version of synphoney of night.
Star ocean 2 was the first rpg i ever played (i thought they were too boring before) It remains one of my all time favorite games. Sadly, I lost the first disc so i cant go back and play it. :( oh well pleasant memories. Anyways, if anyone is looking to get into playiing rpg's then that game is where to start, if you can find it. I rank it right up there with FFXII (my other favorite rpg)
PSP Gives me: Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street Portable Remake of Star Ocean I & 2 Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Also PS3 Gives me: Upscaled; * Dark Cloud 1 & 2 * Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King * Rogue Galaxy * Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street Special * Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 * Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria * Final Fantasy From IV to XII * Star Ocean (3) Till The End Of Time
Real PS3 Titles (JRPGs): * Final Fantasy XIII & XIII Versus * White Knight Story * Folkore (Questionable if JRPG but I loved Demo) * Disgaea 3 * Monster Hunter 3 (Questionable if JRPG) * Star Ocean IV
Rumored on PS3 * Final Fantasy VII Remake * Eternal Sonata
That was the scene of JRPGs that I love.
Now I'm bored of Listening lets not forget Tekken 6, Gran Tourismo 5, Killzone 2, Heavy Rain Bla bla bla.
This wasn't really surprising news as it was either gonna be PS3 exclusive or multiplatform. That and the fact that Sony is the third largest shareholder of Square-Enix. If Star Ocean 4 plays more like Oblivion than Final Fantasy (as the article suggest), it would be a welcome addition to my library. Hopefully the story won't be as kooky as Star Ocean 3.
Star Ocean games have always been huge, last one was around 200 hours freaking Epic and awesome, im glad Square didnt let that POS xbug 3DO with the last gen. dvd downgrade the experience for us PS3 owners.
man I just hope I can still cook in the new one the 2nd one was epic maybe not has polished has ff7 but a lot of fun especially the fights. Kinda hope they do port it to the xbox tho if they stay true to series it wont be a high powered game so why not share the luv?
edit the only real reason for the exclusive must be to drive the Jap sales which this game will do like 10x more than gt4 would here if it were exclusive...
Seriously if you are into rpgs and you don't like the turn based Final fantasy style stuff, then go for star ocean, it can definitely holds its own against Final Fantasy. Plus it is not turn based and you can run around during battle, like Grandia 3.(which reminds me I hope they make a 4 soon)

It said it right there
Sony said they would be revealing some big news for the PS3 and this must have been what they were talking about.
I actually hope so... I know people are gonna blast me for this but I really don't like so many games going multi-platform myself... I need a reason to buy my PS3. But if it is indeed exclusive, I won't be surprised, been speculating it'd be when it was announced.
good news for people that love JRPGs and people that own a PS3 but for me I will be skipping Star Ocean 4
