Why Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Is More Fun Than Gran Turismo 5

There’s been a lot of controversy as of late surrounding a certain racing title developed by Polyphony Digital. That title is, of course, none-other than Gran Turismo 5. Well, most individuals have been presented with a choice. Go with the ultra-realistic simulation experience that is Gran Turismo 5, or settle down with the other hot racer on the market. Yes, you know which one I’m talking about… Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. I’m here not only here to explain to you why this particular game is so incredible, but that it’s hands down more fun than anything Gran Turismo 5 has to offer.

Great argument here. I can see why some people say Hot Pursuit is more fun.

I prefer GT5, but I admit it can be frustrating and time consuming. I guess I'd go for NFS if I just wanted to pick up and play fast. GT5 you really have to dedicate a lot into it.

Again, great argument, I can see the author's point. Still, GT5 is my preference, hands down.

doctorstrange4890d ago

GT5 = Steak dinner - lots of high quality enjoyment that really lasts, but you have to chew a lot.

NFS = Hot Dog - One quick bite and you're hooked, but it won't last as long as a steak.

Both are brilliant, and it really depends what ya have a hunger for.

SixZeroFour4890d ago

great analogy and like the way you ended it by not stating one was better than the other...bubbles up

kaveti66164890d ago

That analogy is a cheapshot at NFS.

ikkokucrisis4890d ago (Edited 4890d ago )

It all depends what you want to experience and play.

Need for Speed is Burnout with Licensed Cars
GT5 is the most real-to-life driving simulator ever created

BOTH games are GREAT at what they do

Here are more analogies I can think of:

- NFS is like Battle Field 2 and Call of Duty
- GT5 is like Counter Strike

- NFS is like Fable
- GT5 is like Demon Souls

- NFS is like HAWX
- GT5 is like Microsoft Flight Simulator

- NFS is like Just Cause 2
- GT5 is like GTA

- NFS is like Monopoly
- GT5 is like Chess

jony_dols4890d ago

Hot Pursuit is funner for short, quick gaming sessions.
But it gets old. fast.

GT5 (for me anyway) just keeps on getting better & better...

morganfell4890d ago

"- NFS is like Battle Field 2 and Call of Duty
- GT5 is like Counter Strike"

I would put that part of your analogy in a differnt manner:

-NFS is like Battlefield and Call of Duty
-GT5 is like Arma II Operation Arrowhead

i beat nfs in 2 days got tired

im on week 2 and im only 48% through gt5 ...

thats my opinion tho
i like nfs
but im in love with gt5 :)

LORD-PHOENIX4890d ago

GT5-an rpg of the racing genre more akin to demon souls

NFS-an rpg of the racing genre but more suited to the casual crowd akin to mass effect 2

conclusion both great games,i hate articlles that claim what they believe is law...its one persons opinion

Longrod_Von_Hugendon4890d ago (Edited 4890d ago )

that's nice.

WiiPS3beats3604890d ago

Well I'm not too sure on NFS:HP and why it's getting so much over credit, it's over hyped IMO I have the limited edition and to say the truth it feels like on rails, the crashed are great but then very ugly IMO the hundreds of little particles everywhere make it look so FAKE if u wanna dispute play the real game, GT5 is just more satisfying, it's flawed a bit but overall it's just soo much FUN upgrading ur cars and leaving people in the dust with a car you've built from stock

don't believe me my PSN- WAR_MACHINE562

Mmmkay4890d ago

nfs hp for sale. cheap.

Redempteur4890d ago

@Dmarc

you got to LV 20 in both racer and police in 2 days ?

Really ? did you sleep ?

not one is more fun than the other both are so different it's silly to compare them

despair4890d ago

Its different, for me while they're both fun sometimes you will just enjoy Hot Pursuit more, its just the kind of game it is. I also agree the environments and the island looks better than most of what GT5 has but that's because GT5 tracks are based on reality while Hot Pursuit is a made up island.

when I play GT5 its a more serious and dedicated feeling you get, intense. But Hot Pursuit is fun and crazy with a more relaxed feeling, not saying its easy but it good to relax with.

deadreckoning6664890d ago (Edited 4890d ago )

Its more forgiving, so I guess that would make it more fun for most people.

But "fun" is subjective. For some people, fun is spending hours trying to master a race track. I have loads of fun spending a lot of time trying to master expert songs on Rock Band..so I guess thats the same feeling a GT5 player gets when practice pays off.

RememberThe3574890d ago

Well said. That is exactly it. There is a feeling of accomplishment that I get from few games. The license test, for instance, feel liberating when I complete them. Or realizing that all the money you just sunk into your car is about to pay off because you just served the other racers. It's a great feeling and it keeps me hooked to the game.

Dnied4890d ago

For some reason I can spend hours just re-racing my own ghost to improve lap times over and over

It's so rewarding everytime you shave just SECONDS off each lap, I dont know what it is lol guess I just like my gt5 =)

Chug4890d ago

I'm personally jumping back and forth between GT5 and NFS and I've got to admit that NFS is a lot of fun but its kinda hard to look after playing GT5. Other than that, it's a solid game.

nnotdead4890d ago (Edited 4890d ago )

NFS is a great game, and i would recommend it to anyone who enjoys arcade racers, but i hit a wall at 13 hours or 50% completion where i became bored with it. all the cars started to feel the same, and the events blended together.

now im around 10+ hours into GT5, and still feel like there is a ton i want to do in it. maybe in 3-5 hours more of gameplay i will feel the same thing, but it doesn't seem that way now.

this is of course just my opinion/experience with both games. really i think there is no need to compare the two games. if people want to play both games at the same time like chug above, they wouldn't become bored because you're playing too similar types of games. its almost like playing NBA Jam and 2K11 at the same. sure both are baskerball, but so different of experinces you can find time and fun with both.

Enigma_20994890d ago (Edited 4890d ago )

@kaveti6616

You're kidding, right? This article is a cheap shot at GT5!

Ducky4890d ago (Edited 4890d ago )

That comment is a cheap shot at kaveti!

... I like where this is going. :D

Enigma_20994888d ago

And there are apparently only 10 people... yourself included... that care.

FACTUAL evidence4890d ago

LMFAO! Well when you're a casual gamer, and you like to hit speeds of 200mph in 1 sec then NFS is for you...that's what we call an ARCADE racer....it stands with ridge racer...lmao

Anyway, leave the real driving simulator to the pro...K? Thanx!! bye!!!!

MmaFanQc4890d ago

both game ares VERY different, nfs:hp is an arcade racer and GT5 is a sim....so OFF COURSE peoples who like arcade racing game will enjoy Hot Pursuit more than GT5 and vice versa.

..durp dhurrrr

I think both games have there good and bad things, and it really is hard to compare the two. I have GT5 and I am going to get Hot Pursuit so to me I will enjoy them both as they both due their own things great.

T3mpr1x4890d ago

I have both (and Shift as well thanks to pre-ordering), and prefer GT5 when I have the time to devote to it. Especially with it consistently lagging at the main menu and timing out while attempting to connect to the game's servers...Don't have any of those problems with Hot Pursuit.

NotSoSilentBob4890d ago

Arcade racer versus Simulation not really anything to compare besides models and physics at most.

dragon824890d ago

It would be hard for me to compare the two since I have only played GT5. I guess I will have to wait until I get NFS:HP to form my own opinion.

PlayStation 3: chasing the 1080p dream, part three - Gran Turismo 5 and the indie explosion

From Digital Foundry: "Welcome to the third part in the biggest DF Retro episode we've ever produced - a year-by-year look at how 1080p gaming fared on the PlayStation 3. Launched in 2007 touting its then-exclusive HDMI digital interface, Sony layered full HD gaming on top of its Cell processor and RSX 'Reality Synthesizer' as key selling points for its third generation console. Of course, we all know how that turned out - both Sony and Microsoft machines routinely ran the most advanced titles at sub-720p resolutions, often with questionable performance, so what happened to the 1080p dream?

In the first two parts of John Linneman's investigation, we've covered off the first four years of the Triple's lifecycle and moving into 2010, the overall fortunes of the PlayStation 3 continued to improve. The platform holder released - what was then - the most advanced motion controller in the console space, backed up by experiments with stereoscopic 3D, which turned out to be a short-lived but still formidable pairing. Combined with a strong E3 showing, PS3 was looking good.

However, it's fair to say that it was a fallow year for 1080p gaming on the system, with only Scott Pilgrim Saves The World's razor-sharp pixel art upscaling, Castle Crashers and Soldner X2's 3D/FMV stylings accommodating full HD output - alongside a wonderful Monkey Island remaster."

Just remember ladies and gentlemen, Sony never said all games would be 1080p. Only that the system would support games up to 1080p in a survey before the system was released.
https://spong.com/article/9...
And as we saw, some games did support it, some games tried their best to support it and some games didn't or never reached it.

Is a higher resolution great to have if you can do it? Sure. Is it necessary for a fun game? No

But what I find interesting is Eurogamer. Are they really talking about HD and PS3 in their article or are they really pushing their 4.50 Euros 4K video download subscription? Seems one is being used to sell the other. Just look at the bottom of the article.

Michiel1989638d ago

thats what every company tries to do, push for people to buy their products. Are you really gonna blame them for that?

ApocalypseShadow638d ago

Not all articles are about selling. They're about informing or entertaining.

Maybe I'm supposed to watch the video instead of reading. But I shouldn't have to click. But the article lazily tells us some games did hit 1080p and some didn't. I didn't learn anything new as I own the console. Then, they push a Patreon subscription.

Are you saying every opinion, preview, review and rant article requires a push to buy something now? Tell me which sites are prone to do so so that I can avoid them in the future.

Michiel1989638d ago

not everyone played during the ps3 era. I started during snes era but loved seeing articles/videos about how gaming evolved before that.

i dont think this article is trying to push you to get that patreon sub, it doesnt for me at least. I dont think theres anything wrong putting an ad at the bottom of the article. all the regular DF videos are free already.

SonyStyled638d ago

Wipeout HD on PS3, a remake of the PS1 game was 1080p 60fps. And that released in 2007-08

Christopher638d ago

This really feels like a filler article. I don't feel like I learned anything notable or substantial from this. I feel they could have reduced the unnecessary intro and over-explanation of things and put the whole series in one article for a more substantial and possibly informative piece rather than piece-mealing it out as they have.

dumahim638d ago

It's more about the video. DF Retro videos are for Patreon members first, and I think the whole thing was one big video. For the youtube channel, it gets chopped up and released weekly.

ApocalypseShadow638d ago

Chris is actually right on this one. Something known already was just kind of washed over in the article. Unless you're supposed to get more in the video. If more is in the video, then more could have been said in the article.

Only thing I learned new was that they are selling a subscription. My point though is that you gain more viewers by having better articles and content.

Looking Back to Two of Need for Speed's Best Games - Most Wanted and Hot Pursuit

Paul writes - "EA know a good thing when they see it, and for multiple years November was Need for Speed month. In a break from the usual routine, I'm going to be looking back at two games here, released in 2005 and 2010 respectively. The earlier game is Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which has the distinction of being one of the very best in the franchise. The second game comes from 2010, and is Need for Speed Hot Pursuit; which I'll talk about just as the Remastered version of the game has hit the stores."

Hotpursuit 2 was good as well.

I completely adore this game! In fact its probably my favorite racing game. I recently dusted off my xbox 360 to play Most Wanted 2005. Still a great game, though I do not remember there being such horrible performance. Like massive frame-pacing issues. screen tearing, latency. If any game ever truly needed to be remastered, it this one for sure!
