GameSpot: Dead Nation Review

Contributing to your country's total kills and watching the internationally tracked totals tick up can be neat, but even with a lengthy, 10-mission campaign, the $14.99 price point still feels too high. Nevertheless, your journey in Dead Nation is an undeniably satisfying one, rich with bloody-good fun and dripping with atmosphere. You may think you've shot enough zombies to last yourself a lifetime, but Dead Nation offers so much morbidly lively action that it would be a shame to pass it up.

Gamespot .. with its limited budget and no salary pay to employees ... defy would say $14.99 is high. Cheap ba$tards. This is one effing game, which I bought from PS store without havin any second thoughts and after playing for like 3 hrs ... effin $14.99 defi worth it. And to top that u can play co-op with yr friends. Effing amazing.

bullswar4886d ago

Ive to say .... Dead Nation main menu soundtrack is one the best I heard in games.

bullswar4886d ago

I played for 3hrs and Im on second map ... I read somewhere that it got 10maps in total ... so I believe its gonna be one big game.

BTW Im playin it on GRIM difficulty...so yeah its tough, and thats why Im still on second stage or map whatever u wanna say.

MAJ0R4886d ago

did they think 14.99 was a bit too high for Limbo?

RedDead4886d ago

I think there right about the score, but they're just being ignorant with the price, a 7.5 isn't worth 15....really?

EcliPS34886d ago

I think they determine quality when considering if the price is justified or not. A game could be crappy and 20 hrs long and still cost $15, but just because the playtime is longer, it doesnt justify the price. Just because Limbo was short, doesnt mean it didnt deserve the $15 price tag. I absolutely loved that game.

I bought Dead Nation today, havent played it yet though. Waiting for a friend to buy it and try it out this weekend.

@Georam- Whats wrong with Gamespot?

Sidenote- Why is it that so many on this site say things...but have nothing to back it up? Not saying ur right or wrong...but ur words would mean more if you put reason behind them.

"This is one effing game, which I bought from PS store without havin any second thoughts and after playing for like 3 hrs ... effin $14.99 defi worth it."

"Value" is subjective. You could say Mass Effect 2 is a great value given the loads of content it has, but it could also be said that Vanquish, despite the short campaign, has value in replayability considering the fun factor. Remember...its ONE man's opinion.

Also, another example. MANY people believe XBL is worth $50-$60 a year. Even though it doesn't seem like THAT much money, I personally don't think its worth it. Once again...not everyone looks at $15 the same way.

heres the LIMBO review:
http://www.gamespot.com/xbo...
here's Lara Croft:
http://www.gamespot.com/ps3...
(I just noticed they just pasted the Xbox's review over to the PS3's. No Online Co-op? PS3 has online co-op. They should of given it a better score and removed the con. Gamespot deserves a facepalm.)

$15 for a 3 hour game is better justified? Or a very similar game with a throwaway plot? The standards need to stay the same for everyone.

I am not saying that DEAD NATION is a 10/10 or a 7.5/10 since I haven't played it, but SSDHD is a great game and I have a lot of faith in the quality from the developers.

EDIT: Please bubble me up if you agree. I would like to get back to five. Its so easy to offend people here and I assure you I have no intent to. Those of you who know me here, know I am not at all a troll.

bullswar4886d ago

Some says that its 12hrs long ... dont know about that, read it on followin website.
http://boardsus.playstation...

Replay value 10/10 as it got feature to upgrade weapon, can play it again with different friends ... 5 difficulty levels ... 4 and 5 are locked atm, maybe available when game finished once. Zombies feel like reall effin deal when playin on 3rd difficulty level. Shit this game is amzing.

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

raztad4886d ago

$15 is a bargain for a game of this quality.

The writer is a cheap bastard. Perhaps Gamespot is not paying him well.

Jaces4886d ago

They seemed to have almost nothing bad to say and yet a 7.5?

Odd. Well I have DN and am LOVING it!

its replay value is what makes this game 10/10. Weapons upgrade, 5 difficulty levels and play again and again coop online with friends ... what else ya need.

Lirky4886d ago

there is a balance there for its price 14.99 online play, and "stuff". i'd give it 9/10.

VenomProject4886d ago

This game is awesome, I'm playing it right now...

8.5/10 EASILY.

Go buy it. Now.

Ducky4886d ago (Edited 4886d ago )

I haven't played it, but it looks like Dead Frontier.
... O.o
Or, you know.. Alien Swarm with zombies.
Seems interesting... but I'll just wait for more feedback.

IBD Podcast #13 - Housemarque and mastering the twin-stick shooter

Housemarque is famed for its downloadable console games including Super Stardust, Dead Nation, Alienation, PS4 launch title Resogun and now Nex Machina. The veteran Finnish developer has made a name for itself crafting, precise, polished, technically accomplished and visually striking titles in publishing partnership with Sony.

With its latest title, Nex Machina, launching for both PS4 and PC, Housemarque is taking its first step into self-publishing. Working in collaboration with pioneering developer Eugene Jarvis, who created arcade classics such as Defender, Robotron: 2084 and Smash TV, Nex Machina represents both a refinement and evolution of Housemarque's design principles, as well as an opportunity for the developer to directly benefit from establishing and retaining its own IP.

Here, Housemarque CEO Ilari Kuittinen and head of publishing Mikael Haveri discuss how the decision to self-publish has led to greater autonomy, a collaboration with Eugene Jarvis and how a game titled "Death Machine" could mean a new lease of life for the company.
