Digital Foundry: Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Face-off

However, the question remains: if you have access to both an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which version of the game is the one to buy? Historically, the series' tech has favoured the Microsoft console, but the gap narrowed significantly with the advent of ACII, and right from the very beginning of Brotherhood, it's clear that Ubisoft Montreal has made a number of further refinements to the Anvil engine.

basically visually its a like for like and it comes down to performance where the 360 barely edges it out. LOT comparison is trash, they made the visual disparity seem huge.

"If friends lists are not an issue, the Xbox 360 version edges it with its more refined performance, but content completists may wish to opt for the PS3 version for the additional missions. It's a tough choice to make but rest assured, both releases are well worth your time and money... "

"We also see a difference in terms of the gamma level, which used to be a regular occurrence in the Face-Off comparisons but isn't so much of an issue these days. There is some evidence that suggests that this may actually be a hardware issue within the 360. One very prominent developer talked to us recently about how component and HDMI colour levels from the Microsoft console don't seem to match. This is something we plan to investigate in the near-future by dumping the 360's video RAM directly and comparing to a lossless stream from the HDMI port. Hardly a big deal but the findings could be useful in calibrating your display."

@_IFRIT_

If game like GOW3, U2 hell even HS didn't exist i would agree with you.

ct035321d ago

Oh, so you know how the equivalent of GOW3 or U2 would look like on the 360 if those games were multiplatform?

raztad5321d ago

The equivalent to GoW3 is already out is called LoS. Give it a try.

frostypants5321d ago

The issue is the 360 has no exclusives that look as good as them.

Whether that's a hardware issue or developer laziness is open to debate.

And when i said that there was NO port since companies like UBi and R* have dedicated programmers for games they gave me tens of disagrees...When blockbuster game is done by 400 people with budget of tens of milions dollars, its obvious there will be at least dedicate coder teams, and those are GOOD ones...

Now you guys look at LOT face off article and look at your comments two days ago..."ubi sucks""lazy devs" etc.

Information Minister5321d ago (Edited 5321d ago )

Is this the article you're referring to ( http://n4g.com/news/647406/... )?

I do see a few "lazy devs" comments there, but not nearly as much as "PS3 sucks" and "360 spanks PS3" comments. Fanboys will be fanboys. Also R* is a terrible example to demonstrate your point.

MGRogue20175321d ago (Edited 5321d ago )

Multi-platform titles usually always perform better on the Xbox 360, No surprise here..

There are times where the PS3 version of a multi-platform title is more superior.. but that happens rarely.

Having said that, There's nothing wrong with either version of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, You are able to play the game with no problems. There's just slight minor differences that you most likely won't notice unless of course you have both versions running side-by-side.

Boody-Bandit5321d ago (Edited 5321d ago )

You know what makes me laugh so hard at comments like yours Grenadan? You think it actually means something in the real world. N4G members make up "maybe" .001% (and that is a modest estimate) of PS3 and 360 consumers. My friends list on both consoles (PS3 and 360) are pretty jam packed. They don't care if one does a frame or 2 a second more or if one has a slightly higher contrast, gamma, video tear differences. Both of my list have people already playing AC:BH.

They simply purchase and play games for which they are intended, FUN! They are not about the numbers that people obsess over here but merely picking up games and enjoying them. You should try that yourself. I am of the opinion and sale of one, my own.

I am going to do what I usually do with most games I want to play but don't have the cash to purchase. Put both versions in my Qlist at Gamefly and let them decide which I get to enjoy.

Simco8765321d ago

Thats why fanboys are so fun to laugh at!

I only own a PS3, so PS3 is the obvious choice for me. Xbox 360 don't have the variety of games I like, so that is why I didn't get one.

You can't disagree with the face that PS3 has a more diverse gaming library

actual_gamer5321d ago

This article is about tech comparisons so why come on here saying stuff like it doesn't matter and people don't care, clearly they do so you're in the wrong place to be making comments like that

N4WAH5321d ago (Edited 5321d ago )

hmmmm... I am guessing he is here to see if there are any big differences since it's obvious he owns both consoles. That's why I am here. If there is a huge difference, which there hardly never is for the past few years "most of the time", then of course multiconsole consumers want to know.

This isn't the case with AC:BH. I do find it odd that they are using component. Then again I find it odd that all these comparisons ever compare is visuals. What about sound and online performance? They could just as easily be compared but yet they never are. Visuals is only part of the game. The most important aspect being gameplay.

Like BH pointed out, it doesn't matter if there is only miniscule differences as long as the same enjoyment can be attained from both versions. If nothing effects gameplay than that is all that matters to me.

BTW how can people be graphics whores but not audio whores? I have better sound systems then I have displays. Where are the audio comparison articles. Visuals, like I said above, are only a small portion of gaming. Especially in the HD era.

M4ndat0ry_1nstall5321d ago (Edited 5321d ago )

I find it weird that the game is only 7.4 GB on the PS3 and still has a mandatory install of 4.1 GB.

For this comparison AC: Brotherhood is pretty much the same as AC2 in the engine department with a few enhancements. This end quote pretty much sums it up:

"If friends lists are not an issue, the Xbox 360 version edges it with its more refined performance, but content completists may wish to opt for the PS3 version for the additional missions. It's a tough choice to make but rest assured, both releases are well worth your time and money"

I would take more content over slightly better performance any day.

ElementX5321d ago

I think Brotherhood looks much better than AC2, however I haven't played AC2 in ages. I think there are more than a "few enhancements".

NecrumSlavery5321d ago (Edited 5321d ago )

that I believe, is the first non fanboyish thing you have ever said. I kind of want to give you a bubble. Did you finally get a PS3 and fall in love with it's awesomeness?

ElementX5320d ago (Edited 5320d ago )

I've had a PS3 for a long time. My gamer tag is in my profile. I have 458 trophies......

oops, you're talking to the other guy. :P

HungPHATx5321d ago (Edited 5321d ago )

Hey Digital Flopperer ! Why not use HDMI on the PS3 and
See what happens ! Oh I forgot , the 360 is old tech that runs better with Componet and the PS3 was designed with HDMI so you dumb down the comparison for the less technology
Console , what ever I'm loving ACBH on PS3 and Remember Ubi soft said at E3 that ACBH , Future Soilder and Driver are all leading on PS3 so both versions are equal ! So MS mandates DF to use componet cables over HDMI ! why ? We know why MS ! We know why . This gen is full of lies , backyard deals and Moneys "Piff"

I can just it now ! Mattricks and Greedburg 69ing while Kotick
Watchs with a Cigar in hand and well you know what's in his other Hand LMFAO!!!!

KotC5321d ago

360 and PS3 have HDMI so why not just use it for both?

Achemki5321d ago

Because in 2006 Microsoft said HDMI was unnecessary and apparently it's still 2006. People will turn back time just to paint the 360 in a positive light (Brotherhood's gamma being better on component and worse on HDMI in this case). I haven't used component since 2007 ffs.

Masterchef20075321d ago

¨We also see a difference in terms of the gamma level, which used to be a regular occurrence in the Face-Off comparisons but isn't so much of an issue these days. Found this in the article it is pretty interesting

Boody-Bandit5321d ago (Edited 5321d ago )

Which is all the more reason comparisons are usally useless. Why not use both consoles to their fullest capabilities if you are going to compare the two? By using component you are giving the 360 the advantage and taking away what the PS3 can do with their HDMI output.

Yet fanboys flock to these articles and consider them the holy grail only because it supports their bias. I have yet to see one comparison article look the way it does on my displays the way they do in these articles. Then again I know what I am doing and use my devices to their fullest capabilities.

come_stains5321d ago

Hey Masterchef2007 you know what's really interesting?

Wasn't it you who wrote this comment on the lens of truth analysis:

"they should adjust the contrast better before making these comparisons."

There were many other comments too, but they have magically disappeared?

Hmm wonder why digital foundry didn't "adjust the contrast" on his analysis? Maybe that's because real comparison sites know that by manipulating the images will mask the real problem??

Looking forward to doing this again!

Thanks for the mental image.
I just hope I can get it out of my head before Turkey day or I wont be able to eat. *YACK*

They don't actually still use component for these comparisons, do they?!

XBLA Classic 'A World of Keflings' Is Coming to Steam, and There's a Demo

"Back in the innocent days of 2010, A World of Keflings was a fairly popular successor to A Kingdom for Keflings. I even wrote about it a few times in 2012! But the world of humans moved on, and NinjaBee's city-building/adventure game was last seen on the ill-fated Wii U in 2014. Fast-forward to the dark year of 2025, and not only is A World of Keflings coming to Steam, but there's already a playable demo! Perhaps the cheerful, no pressure gameplay that the Keflings bring is just what we need nowadays," says Co-Optimus.

It Has Been Over 2,500 Days Since The Elder Scrolls 6 Was Revealed

It will come out in another 1000-2000 days or so. I’d rather they remake Morrowind. After they added quest arrows, sprint button, making stats lesser and the big nerfs to spells Elder Scrolls has been too simplified. They could change that with ES6 but I don’t have much faith in modern Bethesda. I would love to be wrong

Dear God it's been 4 years since infinite and no official update on anything lol.

Tacoboto4d ago

No official update on anything?

They replaced studio leadership
They changed the studio name
They announced the change to UE5
... all while supporting Infinite

The support to Infinite isn't what it originally should have been but they've still been providing tons of official updates over the years, and as recently as two months ago added a brand new weapon.

GamerRN3d ago

I think remaking Halo Combat Evolved, and going to 2 and 3 again, will help give the studio an idea of how to make a Halo game feel like Halo again

Tacoboto3d ago

Infinite did feel like Halo, that's not what the complaints were...

The complaints were almost literally everything else. Monetization, netcode and desync, the campaign structure, story, and single biome, the weaker-than-expected post-launch content.

InUrFoxHole3d ago

Gotta agree. Infinite felt like halo.

Profchaos4d ago

Dev times in modern days 4 years of silence isn't unheard of when things are running smoothly.

And around 6 months ago 343 did show a tech demo of ue5 using halo assets so it's not radio silence.

Given all the shake ups i am more surprised we're getting anything next year at all.

RaidenBlack4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

They coulda started with Halo 3 remake ... I know Halo CE remaster was not proper with the art style but still, remaking after a remaster seems dull, when Halo 3 and Reach have started to show some age.

PhillyDonJawn4d ago

Yeah I hate they used Halo reach artstyle. Hope this remake feel authentic yet fresh

--Onilink--4d ago

Probably the simplest to work around with. They are reportedly doing it in UE5, so its just as much an Anniversary thing, as its probably the studio getting familiar and setting up their tools and processes in the engine with an actual game, to facilitate the development of the next Halo

Profchaos4d ago

I'm guessing combat evolved has a smaller scope in general the later half of the game features a ton of backtracking and reused assets making it a easier game to remake on a deadline

Its also a better choice if this is the first game to be multiplatform mind you I think it's pretty much a given that anyone with a passing curiosity has played this by now in some way be it pc or brought a used console for a few bucks

darthv724d ago

This will likely come to PS5 at the same time. 25 years of XB.... shared with PS.

Obscure_Observer4d ago

It´s gonna be among best sellers on PS Store next year regardless.

raWfodog3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I would love to see Lost Odyssey come over to PS5. I would definitely buy that again. That was the first game that I played on my 360. Loved the story and battle system. One of the best JRPGs of all time in my opinion.
