Eurogamer: Kinect doubles UK Xbox sales

Sales of Xbox 360 in the UK doubled last week off the back of the launch of Kinect, Eurogamer has learnt.

The spike was confirmed this afternoon by sales monitor Chart-Track, a spokesperson stating that, while specific figures could not be revealed, it was "more than a fair reflection" to say the figure was double that of the previous week.

Not surprising. Could have been a bigger bump if MS managed to supply more stock.

Wow talk about touchy lol. The UK is the second biggest region after the US for gaming, so I'm guessing sales went from somewhere around 20,000 to 40,000. No need to try and downplay Kinect's success.

Lucreto2986d ago (Edited 2986d ago )

Well since we don't usually get numbers from UK or Europe we don't know what the average is. They could have sold 2,000 on average and 4,000 this week.

There is no need for the Fox News style propaganda. If they sold double, fair enough but don't go around talking ****.

edit: I am just saying double what.

below in the US there is no such day in the UK.

Hallmark Moment2986d ago (Edited 2986d ago )

Speaking of Fox News there is no need for bitter speculation, just know the demand gets higher and higher despite being so close to the real shopping season kick off on Black Friday. Just know that the reports say xbox and Kinect are beating the competition, isn't that enough? You downplay the success so how does that make the competition look if they say xbox is winning? lol

Dig I make you angry?(in long drawn out whiny fashion)

Disagree is your friend

Venatus-Deus2986d ago

Yeah... If my kids were old enough I'd buy it now.

Us Brits love our new tech. Still hoping for some cool hardcore games next year.

Make it happen MS!

zootang2986d ago

New tech, lmao! The Xbox360 is five years old and can't play Blu Rays. A Blu Ray add on would have sold more than kinect.

Yeah, new for 2005.

Venatus-Deus2986d ago

Oh whats the point... There's no point is reasoning with any one console devotee.

DigitalRaptor2986d ago

So is their point any less valid? Does it make them less of a gamer?

Venatus-Deus2986d ago

Oh get over yourself...

That's an incredibly defensive comment from you considering I only said there is no point in reasoning with a fanboy.

Zootang's comment is both childish and uninformed. He opinion is less valid for this.

There is a reason why we don't let children vote and Zootang is the perfect example.

zootang2986d ago

Childish and uniformed? Thanks!

This is the problem with N4G you are not allowed an opinion with people like Venatus, Omega and Gigaware. They don't want to respond with sense, just slander.

DigitalRaptor2986d ago (Edited 2986d ago )

My point was, that you made a generalisation.

Zootang can be as childish as he wants, that's his decision. Some of his statement holds true, but not all.

I am a single console owner this generation by choice. I don't plan on getting another console any time soon. Well, I'm thinking about geting the Wii. But I also game on PC. Being a CONSOLE devotee is not such a bad thing. When you also have a PC with a steam account, you get the best of both worlds for the most part.

Venatus-Deus2986d ago (Edited 2986d ago )

Let me turn that around...

Are you saying that I'm not allowed an opinion of your opinion?

That your opinion is what counts and others are not allowed to question?

If you feel you need to make a comment then don't complain if somebody gives you theirs.

Welcome to free speech 101

Might there be a difference between a one console owner and a devotee?

"One who is ardently devoted to something"

"An ardent or fanatical adherent of a religion"

I'll make a note that you define yourself as one of the above.

zootang2986d ago (Edited 2986d ago )

Now you are being silly. Was it not you who said

"Zootang's comment is both childish and uninformed. He opinion is less valid for this"

Instead of challenging my statement you challenge my credibility. You started this my friend.

Edit: Just to point out. I've had 3 360's and I loved test drive unlimited and ashamed to say Viva Pinata. Completed Halo and didn't think too much of it, I was attached to the end though.

Move with the Times

Venatus-Deus2986d ago

"Instead of challenging my statement"

My comment was about Kinnect and hoping for good things in the future and yours was about the xbox appearing in shops in 2005.

I said nothing about Bluray but you just wanted to hate on the console you don't own.

How can I challenge that and whats the point?

Hater going to hate.

We are out of Bubbles... thank. god.

Although I am certain kinect had an influence on the increase of xbox sales, I think people are forgetting that this was Black Ops release week that was heavily advertised with ties to the box.

Anton Chigurh2986d ago (Edited 2986d ago )

I have seen people selling their Wii or PS3 to get Xbox360 (w/Kinect) in my hometown. M$ is doing a great job in advertising.

mandf2986d ago (Edited 2986d ago )

Japan is the 2nd largest. Traditionally who ever wins Japan wins the console gen. Lern your video game history.

Mustang300C20122986d ago

Man what is going on today. We have a lot of competition for idiotic comments of the day.

mandf2986d ago

Ps2 sold 40 million consoles in Japan last gen. No console sold 40 in any region this gen.

gamingdroid2986d ago (Edited 2986d ago )

History is all good and well, but one should also follow the times. Game industry in Japan is on the decline for a long time now.

UK has already overtaken Japan for the second place as indicated by DiRty's post below. Here is the link for your convenience:

Japan is increasingly become less of an important market, when you are not only overtaken, but your industry is shrinking! In 5-10 years, Japanese market might not matter.

fooltheman2986d ago

Uk second biggest region? hahahahahahahahaa

DiRtY2986d ago

There you go. 2009 UK was bigger than Japan as a videogame market. Could have changed in 2010, but I did not read anything in that direction.

I had a feeling that this was going to happen based on my experience 6 days ago looking for a Kinect sensor to buy with a friend of mine.

Went to GAME at Camden Town and it was sold out but they had the 4gb bundles available. SO went to GAME on Oxford street and we got one from there but they said they will all be gone before the day runs out. I asked if it was due to low available stock or high demand and he said it was due to high demand. The stock level they had was adequate and they had seen increased demand for the Kinect bundles as well.

"A senior publishing source added: "360 doubled last week and it was already selling a lot. Wii and PS3 have been beaten by 360 consistently over the past few months."

I knew the 360 was selling well but I had no idea that it was outselling the PS3 and wii. I was under the impression that it had been selling poorly in the UK especially after the PS3 price cut and redesign. Guess i was wrong.

Its good news for MS i only hope that everyone that bought the machine were advised that there was a fee for xbox live lol

Why i wasnt being negative but i have worked in an electronic retail outlet and a game store you have to inform consumers of what it is they are getting

catguykyou2986d ago (Edited 2986d ago )

You don't have to pay for live, just pay to play online. I doubt anyone buying a Kinect who doesn't already have the console really cares to play online anyways. Marketed toward Soccer moms and Old people. Little kids too.

That's like saying the people who buy Kinect can't play the games they get for it because they can't play online. It's a non issue in this since.

EVO-OM3GA2986d ago (Edited 2986d ago )

I know you dont have to pay, but Gold Membership is the way to go.

I do like the option of PSN+ but i would prefer to pay so when i get my PS3 back i will be getting PSN+

I have met alot of females on live.

Just a few off the top of my head i have seen alot of female gamers & Moms

Once you get online and you start interacting and get along with people regardless of age its acually quite an addictive experience

Plus if Kinect games offer Online play they would love it

Bigpappy2986d ago

I do play Kinect games online with friends and family. It is not required though. I have alway had XBL from day 1 when M$ released it on Xbox. Some of the newcomers (casuals) will buy it. When they realize that you can play and chat it up in the party mode no matter what you are doing on your xbox, not many females can resist the temptation.

xg-ei8ht2986d ago

Strange green, in nearly every shop i've been in, electronics wise. Kinect has been in stock and loads of them.

Sold out my a$$

falviousuk2986d ago

perhaps MS are continuing to build more and move as many into the retail chain as possible to capitalise on the initial interest from the public.

But no spin away mate, spin away.

Some places have sold out, then been restocked, GAME for one is an example, but the were quickly restocked, Amazon uk also sold out but again that didnt last long as they were obviously restocked.
