Edge: After experimenting with the match-three formula in the shape of Bejeweled Twist, PopCap is returning to the roots of its gem-swapping franchise with a much more straightforward sequel. As Bejeweled 3 is due to start chewing into global productivity this December, we caught up with Jason Kapalka, the developer’s co-founder and chief creative officer, to discuss the best means of tampering with a classic, why the studio is still making games for his mum and how creating “the gayest thing ever” has helped destroy traditional concepts of hardcore and casual audiences.
