I love how they mention the graphics aren't stunning, but yet don't take any score away from it. If this were a PS3 game, that would take it down at least a full point. But since it's Halo 3, everybody's teabagging each other over it and I expect perfect or near perfect scores from everybody -you know M$ will pay for those scores.

You've gotta almost completely isolate yourself from any HALO 3 info or reviews you come across. I remember right around the launch of HALO 2, every corner I looked on the net had some new tidbits of the campaign mode (as the reviews started to pour in). I think the only one I read was from my monthly subscription of GAMEINFORMER (it was either them or EGM), because they made it very clear they weren't going to ruin or reveal one thing about campaign to it's readers.

Stay away from the net, and surely the Bungie.net forums if you don't want anything ruining your experience.

GamesMaster was launched in January 1993; Sony PlayStation 1 was launched in December 1994 in Japan; so GamesMaster is actually OLDER than Playstation... and, of course, the PlayStation Magazine (PSM). GM has been around for a very long time. A lot of other gaming magazines have come and gone since 1993.

As long as Halo 3's single player campaign is better than the trash that was Halo 2 I'll be happy to finish the fight!

At the moment I am cautiously optimistic about Halo 3's SP, but certainly not buying in to the hype. The multiplayer could well raise the bar with it's depth, balance and features.

I preferred the H2 single player over H1. It was shorter to some degree but part of that was the user already being familiar with controls and the whole "halo" environment. Better vehicles, more guns, less repetition (Crossing the stupid bridges repeatedly in H1 FTL), etc.

I don't do multiplayer so I can't speak to that, but I'm very much looking forward to the single player campaign.

While the second one wasn't nearly as good as the first one, the story was enjoyable and somewhat immersive.

Bungie have done gamers proud.Hopefully, they have the right balance between graphics and gameplay.Yeah, they could have made it look absolutely amazing, but would have sacrificed the multiplayer components of the game.Just look at some of the 'flashy' style over substance of some recent games to know what i mean.Yes, i wanted top notch graphics, but above all, i want Halo gameplay.Four player co-op without loosing quality gameplay is an big achievement. to get the point across about the importance of balance in graphics vs. gameplay...360 owners already dropped to the floor last year with the jaw-droppingly gorgeous Gears, which also had great gameplay...but gameplay is always king...with all these mixed reviews concerning graphics vs. gameplay, Halo 3 is the perfect answer to all of that in my opinion...the graphics are great, but there's much more under the hood...Mass Effect's graphics will probably be the OMG! jaw drop, "fall to the floor" moment this year for 360 owners...

Gamespot will not give it a 9. The other got 9.7 for Halo and 9.4 for Halo 2. Halo 3 is apparently much more than Halo so I'd think a tie with halo at least.

Well, Halo 2 had a horrible, horrible single player. But the game still recieved a 9.4 from them. Which is why I expect them to rate it between 9.5-9.9.

Gamespot (at least lately) seems to be hitting sequels pretty hard in the score department just for being a sequel instead of new IP. If they game is astounding I'd bet they still won't go better than low 9s at best. They gave bioshock 'only' a 9 which is really surprising given how many people think the game is near (or in fact) perfect in every way.

Why trade it in? There still are a lot of great games coming for it and Live Marketplace still has a lot of great options that to THIS DAY have not been met by it's competitors. That may change one day. Nobody knows. Home could be the end all that ends all.

Save your money, instead of trading things in all the time. Save and buy a PS3 and have the best of both worlds. That way, when another killer game comes for the 360 or the PS3 you will not be sorry. Nobody knew that Star Wars: KOTOR was coming for XBOX right off the bat. Or, God of War for the PS2 for that matter. Great games are coming for both systems in the future and neither is going to go the way of the dodo.

There could be some truth to that. I started arguing these console debates back around E3 2005. Back then, it was exciting. The anticipation and hype led me to believe these games would be more then what I expected. You have Grand Turismo as your avatar. A great game that has a history and a lot of great reviews. Just like Halo. I could say the same thing after playing Forza 2, that GT5 is overhyped. Of course, you will disagree with me, because it is PS game. You will go on about upcoming graphics and the power of the cell and what not. My question is, is it fun? Will it keep me engaged? Probably yes, just like Forza 2 still is right now. Just like GT5 will because it will bring something different to the table. Maybe better graphics. (Physics, who knows?) Maybe online on GT5 will blow Forza out of the water. We will wait and see. I will get both because they are both great games that are not on the smae system. And you will not see me bashing either one.

I'm really tired of coming to this forum and looking for news and seeing the same old bashing of games and consoles everyday. Because, this is the one place where you were supposed to be able to get gaming news from everywhere on the internet quickly and accurately. It seems that all the people from the Sony main page came over here to bash the other consoles because all of their threads got locked and closed for debate over there. And XBOX 360 owners are here defending their console of choice. I applaud you for moving. But, let's be civil. gamesmaster is one of the best mags in the UK. they rate fairly - eg giving gears 93% and games like Resi 4, okami and SOTC 95%+
the highest review they have ever given out was 98%, and that was san andreas.
but this is a preview, they give every big game a preview, and a lot of games recieve 5/5 on the wanted meter. hell stranglehold got a 5/5 last month

HALO ][][][ has so much going for it, 4 player Online co-op, amazing graphics compared to previous HALO's, and some of the best online multiplayer ever. Bio isn't as great as what it's proclaimed and while i can't level any real complaint against it , i could happily live without it.Stunningly realized sets and atmosphere set it apart and combat works nicely enough if a little bit unbalanced at times.I would certainly argue that there is way too much stuff that can be utilized that should have been cut back to around 1/3 - it's nice having choice but there doesn't need to be quite so much as there is here.In any case ,i'm more likely to just shoot most dead with a shotgun if i have the ammo.Bio is definitely worth playing through at least a few times but it's not as earth shattering as what i thought it would be.I enjoy my time with Bio but after a couple of hours i want to stop playing - something i don't normally find when playing Halo for example.

My faith in Halo3 is somewhat higher anyway than it ever was for Bio and i predict great things from the master.No real point anyway comparing these two.

Speaking of multi-platform, I wonder if they've fixed the Bioshock bugs yet on the PC version? Seeing as other multi-platform titles like Gears of War were given 20% more content on the PC version, you'd expect the Bioshock PC version to be a little better. I have a preference towards Xbox because for me it feels like it caters more towards my age group (i'm 34) - this could be argued of course but it's why i stick with Xbox.

I'm not all that keen on MGS and would rate it as an 8 or 8.5 game but i know how popular it is and that it does what it does rather well.The series has a well deserved following but when marked on pure gameplay , it falls just a bit short for me(just a little).I am unlikely to play another MGS game (finished the 1st one) but i will never be so stupid as to slag the series off like some people do of Halo.

Again comparing these two series is a little daft anyway.

Halo is the reason why I bought an Xbox and got really into console gaming in the first place. If it wasn't for Halo I would of bought a PS2 back in 2001 or just kept on playing on my PC forever and forever amen.

Now that Halo 3 has 4 player online coop my friends (who live in Canada and in New England and I live in the South) can now enjoy this game together for years to come.

I am what you call a hardcore halo fan. I was into doing lan parties 3 or 4 days a week every week with around 12+ dudes each go, and I also did state-wide lan tournies, too. Halo 2 MP is n00bed-out and unbalanced. the whole game is trash to me. and I try playing single-player, but it just bores me. halo 1 still entertains me to this day. halo 2? no way. i turn it off and play some halo 1 and wonder why i didn't just do that in the first place. halo 3 should be as good as the first. YES!!!!

was better than Halo 1's, but not by much. I enjoyed them both a lot. My main problem with Halo 2's SP was that they STILL had the repetitive level designs. Maybe to a lesser extent, but after all the criticism the first game got because of that, you'd think they would've really tried to vary things up. But let's face it, no one is buying Halo 3 for the single player. That's always been and always will be just a perk.

halo 2's campaign WAS repetitive and boring. u know why halo 1 was so good? cuz, almost half of the game was going through the same levels again, but from the other side, and it was STILL amazing. not boring or repetitive at all. halo 2 just didn't have the magic. lets hope halo 3 does.

I played online in Halo 2 for six months before even trying the single player. I would be embarrassed to say how many hours and how many gamertags i have had for just that game or how I ignored the world to immerse myself in the wonderful glow of lockout. Anyways I'm playing the Single Player first and only on legendary.

Anyone else been playing thru 1 and 2 to get ready to finish the fight, I can't wait to play thru all 3 seemlessly.

It looks great, but all I think as I look at this game is "I've done all this before." And I would be very surprised if the reviews didn't reflect that to some extent.

Personally, I'm more excited about the games this year that really revolutionize gameplay and make us FEEL like this is the next gen, not just make minor additions to a tried-and-tested formula.

And I see the amount of disagrees I'm getting- really, I'm not against the 360. At all. And I like Halo. But my definition of a next generation game is one that actually changes the way you play, not advances on it. To be honest, I feel like if you took away the nice graphics and the weapons and the maps, you would essentially have Halo 2. There's nothing wrong with that, because Halo 2 was a great game.

But I really want something different; something we couldn't experience last gen because of the limitations of the hardware.

I think Halo 3 looks quite good, but it doesn't stick out (to me) as something that will truly innovate the game industry. When I see Super Mario Galaxy or BioShock... those are MY DEFINITION of true next generation games because they fundamentally change the way you play and will doubtless influence game developers for years to come. I would say the original Halo fit that description perfectly, but to me Halo 2 felt more like an episodic expansion than an actually new game.

With that said, I'm sure Halo 3 won't disappoint fans of the series or of the genre.

Besides the fact that the original team is no longer developing the new Halo, there is nothing innovative about the game. Halo has been drained of originality. Three years of development on a next-gen system and the most they can offer is half-***ed graphics and some new grenades.

They even finished the game 3 months early and instead of taking the time to polish and add, they stopped. Why you ask? Because this game is automatically a platinum hit. Why would they work hard to make a truly deserving finale when they have nothing left to prove?

This industry is turning into another Hollywood because people will keep buying crap and accepting less as more. Nobody wants to develop on the PS3 because it would take too long to learn. So continue to buy games with fame rate drops, uninteresting stories, copycat game play, and over exaggerated advertisement from lazy and greed developers. But as soon as EA releases Flava Flave's Magic Ghetto Adventure or another World War II game, I don't wanna even hear any of you complain. It's YOUR fault that games suck.

there are lots of halo fans who will be the first to pick holes in halo 2. there are two camps on the issue.

one group says halo CE's single player was better, and the other tends to go along with halo 2's single player being better.

i personal think halo 1 was the better single player. read the bungie forums, loads of halo fans had quite heated and different views on why halo one was better or halo 2 was better.

nobody just sat back and said halo 2 was the greatest single player ever or just said nothing because we were playing halo 2 online. a lot was said, a lot of complaining was made about it.

if you don't hang out with that crowed then you would never know anyway, but like a said, go read the bungie forums, or some of the posts above, you can already see the difference in views from both sides of the halo fan base.

Nice attempt to make yourself look pro. Halo 3 in no way plays like q3 arena. Do you smoke crack? If anything, Epic games ripped off quake a long time ago with the copycat we all know as unreal tournament. Thats right, Epic took the best competitive 1v1 ever created and copied it, along with the engine. Albiet in the end Epic ended up owning iD in business. Kudos to them. As far as Halo is concerned the one thing this particular community is forgetting(n4g)is pro gaming. Ever heard of Major League Gaming? Guess what the biggest game is? I would love to see Halo 3's last level similar to that of Halo 1, but have 4 player coop with everyone on the same vechicle blasting the crap out of everything that moves. I'm expecting the fun meter to be as high as Halo1 SP and Halo2 MP, and then some. The bottom line is fun game play. Halo rocks.
