It seems that upon the event of his departure, Megaman Creator and (former) head of R&D at Capcom Keiji Inafune deemed it an appropriate time to take some parting shots at the field he had been working for so many years. | Techspotlight.net
lol, someone should post that 'epic' staff photo of Kojima's dev team. They look like the backstreet boys and everyone on here was posting saying how 'bad ass' it was.
I know disagrees will fly, but funnily enough Inafune is not the first person to express this sentiment.
It couldn't be true though could it, nope it's another conspiracy, you N4G-ers should know how to spot a conspiracy too. If anyone's word is to be taken seriously, it's not the developers themselves, it's faceless disagree spamming hateful brand loyalists.
Eg.
Sales chart comes out that shows console X to be leading console Y;
Console Y owners: "that site is full of $#!+
Low scoring review of exclusive game on console X;
Console X owners: "that site is full of $#!+"
Or when Gamespot got accused of being in MS's pocket, even though they scored LBP, KZ2 and UC2 all above 9...
Unfortunately, that staff photo of Kojima's dev team is actually truly more badass than any photo of Gabe Newell. It's not a conspiracy theory. It's just the cold hard truth.
I think you believe too much in the conspiracy that N4G-ers believe in conspiracy. There is no conspiracy dude.
Inafune not liking Japanese game development culture/process, that ain't no conspiracy. That's just his likes and dislikes.
"No game developer looks 'bad ass'."
Even scientists would agree that Kojima's team looked badass since Kojima's team are very healthy and not fat like Gabe.
"Gabe is co-owner of a company that makes more than 500 million a year in profit, now that is bad ass"
Yep, Gabe's company, that make 500 million a year in profit, is pretty badass. Gabe, on the other hand, is not badass.
"Wouldn't you be fat if you could afford to eat as well as he can?"
Actually, I would not be fat. I would be even healthier. Being fat is unhealthy and is actually the opposite of what badass is. I would not eat tons of junk food like him. I would eat more stuff with vitamins, calcuim, protien, etc.
"Look up what augment means..."
So I looked it up and it turns out that it means to take something and super-impose something onto it, and thereby, enhancing it in some way.
In The Eye of Judgment, the monsters are augmented into your living room, on the screen, enhanching the interactivity and experience.
I succeeded.
The way Japenese game development culture is going, they're not going to be able to survive any longer. Something must change and I am glad Inafune is trying to do something about it.
Augmented reality is to say that it improves upon real life, for you to agree with that is as insane as someone agreeing with a claim that a game looks 'better than real life'.
You fail.
P.S
No game developer looks 'bad ass'. I don't know how to break it to you, but game developers spend all day on computers making the games, there is nothing cool about it. On a side note, Gabe is co-owner of a company that makes more than 500 million a year in profit, now that is bad ass, wouldn't you be fat if you could afford to eat as well as he can?
shaders, etc. They have the creativity, but lack the technical skills. The West, they have the technical skills, but lack the creativity, so they don't know how to put those technical skills to good use (example is Ninja Theory, great use of technology, but average gameplay, and average storyline).
Which is why the solution is:
Create an Eastern game with Western skills. In other word: visionary Eastern producer + Western programmers.
in terms of sales and games. Their sales are fine for their population size. The only reason the sales aren't good here is because westerners aren't open minded and only like games that are easy, streamlined and don't require too much thinking. And not every dev can afford to develop a AAA game.
This just speaks more about his FORCED retirement if you ask me. I don't remember the last time he talked good about his own people. Kind of odd if you ask me. Seems to me that he was Westernized and not his games lol. Everything he tried to Westernize just turned into crap. Lost Planet 2 was just plain tragic!
With the way japanese games have been turning out... can you say anything good about it? There have only been about a handful of good games to come from japan in my opinion. Several decent games. And then all garbage after that!
I like japanese games, but am starting to lose interest in them!
You are right and I do agree with you on that. There have been a few gems out there you just have to look for them. It is not like in the PS2 days when they were everywhere. I have faith that some good ones are coming... We can all hope at least right lol!
thats really weird, becos japs are famous for their overtime and serious working. i cant mention any japs game that is not polished. yes it might drop in gameplay department, but it always polished.
the problem is the market is shifting to western. before, the japs makes good game, so the market was into japs games. but now, the western game flood the market, change the trend of the game. its as easy as that. even a behemoth game such as mgs4 has hater. not because the game sucks, but because its a little bit not westernized.
He nailed it though: Japanese have skills but lack motivation, Western devs struggle to stay afloat, they have technical knowledge but barely know how to put it to good use.
Look how the Xbox 360 is doing there. It's practically irrelevant. And as for Nintendo and their Wii, they are comptetition sure, but I can also bet that most 'serious' gamers in Japan own both those systems (WII&PS3).
Japanese people are obviously more likely to buy products with Japanese origins since their are a bunch of Homo-geneous, Gaysha-Fanboys unlike us here in the states.
Here in the U.S. the competition is not as one sided since all three companies appeal to the general public at large. And the whole patriotic aspect of that "My d**k is bigger than yours" mentality is not as big with us Americans since we don't live in a little cramped island where EXTREME brand loyalty can grow (I.E. Death threats sent to Square-Enix when they made FFXIII multi-console). XDXDXDXD
Maybe they prefer their systems to work more than 50% of the time? Same reason why american cars dont sell there. If the Japanese simply hated everyting american, baseball, Mcdonalds and iphones would never have caught on there.
Jlg112592, I see your white supremecist meeting let out early. That's assuming you ARE white of course, you could be a self-hating Japanese for all we know. English not being your first language would explain much about your posts.
The English language is full of problems like the one presented by there, their and they're. Most native English speakers pronounce these words the same way; therefore, it is difficult for some to judge in which situation to use which spelling. Each spelling means a very different thing; if you'd like to learn the difference, read on!
Would be really cool if Inafune joined a western dev studio that's open to mixing different cultures and development styles.
@leonlion - Blue Castle Games were responsible for DR 2. Inafune just oversaw their work. I think if he had been the head producer we would have seen alot more changes. Even though I love the game it's impossible to deny that in many ways it's just a rehash of Dead Rising 1.
i think the guy is talking rubbish for the most. The problem is he has screwed over capcom by making stupid decisions and has been ass licking western devs for sometime so he may join a western dev team.
If japan was bad at making games or not as great then how do we explain the following:
GT5p, GT5, MGS4, MGS PW, Tekken series, SF4, bayonetta, vanquish, Valkriya chronicles, Yakuza series, pretty much most of the nintendo releases and shit lotsa other games.
The way i see it, it is not all japanese devs but mostly capcom who has been falling short. they have only got SF and to an extent they have RE5, but that is it.
Inafune crapped up lost planet 2, he has ruined Devil May Cry and Capcom is shitting their pants looking at NT's Enslaved sales and he has totally ignored the talent which resides in japan and does make great games.
not every dev in east is great just as not every dev in the west being great.
If the dev in the west have a brain, they will do good to stay well away from him. As the article on N4G earlier pointed out, this guy was not the brains behind mega man or the other games he has taken credit for, he is a tag along.
I remember the developers over at platinum games saying how they each have to dress a certain way so people know who they are. They are a pretty sad vain bunch. Mikami said he did not give a shit, but had to start wearing nice clothes to please the rest of them. He also has to wear baseball caps as that's how people know who he is.
Lots of gamers worship Japanese culture for some reason. I think a lot of these gamers are freaks who need to get girlfriends and stop lusting after little anime girls. Bunch of pedophiles in the making
They're not sticking to what they do best....which is make crazy new games. Look at all the great Japanese franchises:
Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter, Okami, Onimusha, Megaman, Devil May Cry, ICO, Shadow of Colossus, Tales of, Tekken, Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden, Kid Icarus, Gran Turismo, Soul Calibur, Resident Evil, Disgaea, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Sonic, Valkyria Chronicles, Lunar, Ys, BlazBlue, Demons Souls, Vanquish, Bayonetta, Oboro Muramasa, Marvel vs. Capcom...fuck I could list all day. But they're trying too hard to westernize. They need to just carry on with what they've been doing for the past 25 years which is pioneering with innovative new titles and IP's instead of trying to cater to a market they know nothing about.
As for Inafune...the man needs to stop sounding butthurt all the time. It's so annoying.
For the record, Keiji Inafune himself has stated that "his mentor", Akira Kitamura already had the basic design of Megaman created when he joined Capcom, but I suppose "Creator of Zero from the Megaman series" doesn't attract as many viewers.
the jap game devs spend more time doing their hair than making games

Are lazy since they have no competition.
