Crush! Frag! Destroy! Review: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game

CFD!'s Dustin Stevens cracks heads on the snowy streets of a pixelated Toronto in this review:

"Let me just start right off the bat and say this: I get it. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is a marvelous throwback to 8 and 16-bit beat ’em ups. It’s full of references to the Scott Pilgrim comics and movies as well as to other video games. But as a standalone game, it’s simply too trapped in the past and too multiplayer balanced to stand out as a great single-player experience."

I still need to get around to buying this.

NecrumSlavery5328d ago

its a good game, a very good game and a huge tribute to the classics titles. everything is a reference.
even the cheat codes...lol

plus its only $10 when other 3 hours games cost $15.

No online multiplayer = no thanks.

ShadowPraxis5328d ago

I agree that that was a huge missed opportunity. From what I heard though, the dev team almost had to fight just to get the game made as it was. I guess Ubi was kind of hanging the project out for the crows for a while.

Shmotz5328d ago

While I do wholeheartedly agree, that shouldn't put you off of buying this. It's still a fantastic game and fun to play by yourself. However if you can play with friends it just makes it all the better.

Major props to the soundtrack for the game also.

Fail

People this generation miss out on some great games because there's no online multiplayerz! Lol

You know it does have 4-player multiplayer and if you have friends you can still play it together off-line.
It's a bit of a shame, but no online does not "= no thanks".

thisdustin5328d ago

@SynGamer--well said. That really neutered this game.

Ndigity5328d ago

I probably will, if only for Anamanaguchi.

RogueCheddar5328d ago

I still need to see this movie! Wish it was still in theatres. Good to hear the game is good

TroyAndAbed5328d ago

DVD and Blu-ray November 5th. I pre-ordered on Amazon.

Best movie this year. I saw it six times in theaters.

The 10 Best Comic Book Video Games of All Time

From Xfire: "You'd think that there would be more good comic book video games (outside of the obvious superhero ones) released over the years, but the truth is, they are quite rare. Thankfully, a growing number of studios are tapping into this valuable resource to bring audiences the best comic book video games."

This Doesn’t Redeem You, Ubisoft

Re-releasing Scott Pilgrim vs The World doesn't fix things quite that easily.

"But because of some absolute scumbags at the top, I can’t in good conscience even think about giving this company a dollar at the moment. It would be like if Konami suddenly announced that PT and Silent Hills was coming back that would be great, but you also have to wonder what made them changed their mind."

You really did not have much to go on, but that just exposed how out of touch, fan news driven and un-industry you are. I get that you think that your heros can do no wrong and all, but get back to gaming kiddo. Squeak on.

Meanwhile, they are looking for contributors to deliver more of this. :/

Should they just stop producing anything until people suddenly forgive them?

I had this on PS3. Absolutely a treasure and all the homages to retro gaming was brilliantly executed. If you want a beat ‘em up that feels a bit like Shovel Knight in its retro love and a River City Rampage RPG, this is for you.

Its a rarity when a Movie and its game land so well. Enjoyed both of these immensely

darthv721719d ago

I never saw the movie or played the game. I feel so left out but Im glad this is coming back so I can finally play it. I've heard nothing but good things about it. I still need to see the movie though.

The Wood1719d ago

You should definitely watch the movie. Fun film

Teflon021719d ago

Literally played through and 100%'d River City Girls and literally said to myself, they really need to rerelease Scott Pilgrim or I'm pulling out my PS3 again with it on it. IMO the best beat em up I've ever played. So happy, I legit may buy on switch, ps4 and PC

Chocoburger1719d ago

Probably the best game Ubisoft released for the past decade. The only digital game I've ever pre-ordered with no regrets. Fantastic game, not sure if I'll buy it again since I have my PS3 readily available.
If you enjoyed Turtles in Time, or Streets of Rage in the past, then don't let this game pass you by!

NecrumOddBoy1719d ago

I highly recommend Ubi Framework games like Valiant Hearts.

robtion1719d ago

The movie is directed by Edgar Wright (Cornetto trilogy) and is quirky and great fun.

The game is also great retro fun and has been unavailable for years as it was delisted from the PS3 store. Will definitely pick it up for PS4.

Unknown_Gamer57941719d ago

Is it odd that I never watched the movie, and read a bit of the first volume of the graphic novel and found it kind of boring, but love the game? I still have this on my PS3 actually. I never did get the DLC though so I'm glad this is happening. Now I just have to decide if I want it on my PS4 or Switch.
