Is Gran Turismo 5 Overkill - Game-Smack Ireland

Before I get into why I feel this way, I just want to make it clear that I think Gran Turismo 5 is going to be one of the best games of the year and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. What I will be covering in the following paragraphs are just simple issues that I’ve been feeling over the last few months.

There's one thing for sure.
I won't need another racing game this generation when Gran Turismo 5 comes out.

Bereaver2969d ago

And what's what PD is hoping for. Right after the release of GT5, they will start GT6 probably. This game is a beast.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO2969d ago (Edited 2969d ago )

GT6 is already in development. Kazunori confirmed that.

http://topnews.net.nz/conte...

And it will come for PS3 too.

And I wonder how they will add Formula, Motorcycles, and more types of cars to race.

Bereaver2969d ago

I meant full time work. Of course it's already in production.

What about MotorStorm Apocalypse?

rdgneoz32969d ago

Yep, should be "another racing sim", MS: Apocalypse is gonna be sick as well.

Boody-Bandit2969d ago

I couldn't agree more. I don't see the need when this game will have nearly every type of racing I enjoy on 1 disc. I just wish a stone cold release date would be announced already. I check every day waiting hoping it will come straight from PD or Sony themselves instead of rumors. I hope it's this year. If not I will make due but I hope that's not the case.

Every new video posted here is bordering on torture.

Si-Fly2969d ago

So you won't be needing GT6 ... interesting.

Mike134nl2968d ago

Gran turismo is gonna be the the game too end all simulation racing games. Still in doubt about buying a steering wheel for when GT5 releases or getting a move sadly I cannot afford both.

It seems the writer of this article has not only misunderstood how much Gran Turismo has actually been delayed (once in US/EU) but he also falling into another journalistic Cliché.

This being that a game somehow gets worse the more it is delayed o_0 I don't understand how people can suddenly lose interest in a game that is obviously being constantly improved upon. To me it's like having a choice of £100 right now or £1000 in few weeks/months. Surely people can wait a few weeks without turning on the game and trying to knit-pick and pull it apart like a child crying because they want to open their presents before Christmas.

To the writer and anyone else falling into his trap of negativity I say be patient, no matter how much hate is drummed up in the media you know Polyphony Digital will deliver on all their promises. Christmas is NOT cancelled.

lostcatalyst2969d ago

I'm the writer of the article and I never said the game would be bad. I said right away that I think the game is going to be amazing. I just feel the hype behind it has been going on so long that it's starting to lose steam in my opinion. I'm 100% sure its going to be one of the best games of the year. I just feel that people won't see everything because of its amount of content which is sad because of how high quality the game is going to be.

49erguy2969d ago

I disagree. I don't think its going to lose steam at all, especially before it comes out. I just think expectations will be so high for the time put into it that any small quirks (occasional framerate drop, lack of weather and/or night on some tracks) will be magnified times ten. That's almost a fact. As a Playstation fanboy, even I will be sure to find something that I wish made "made it" into the game whether it be engine sounds or whatever the case may be.

Aclay2969d ago

"I just feel that people won't see everything because of its amount of content which is sad because of how high quality the game is going to be."

Gran Turismo games have pretty much always been significantly large in scale and content in comparison to other Racing Sim's on the market, so I don't see why it concerns you that people won't see everything the game has to offer. Most of the people buying GT5 are likely going to want to experience as much of it as possible, especially considering how long it's been in development and the fact that it will be the very first Full GT title on PS3.

"Does anyone else feel though there is just too much content for the average gamer to get through?"

It almost sounds like you're complaining that GT5 is offering so much content in one title, but like I mentioned above, GT titles (especially GT3 and GT4) have always been this way and I'll never complain about a game having too much content... the more the better. There are RPG's that can take players hundreds of hours to complete, so I don't see the difference between that and GT5.

soundslike2969d ago

If you think that its genuinely a real problem that some players will see content that others wont because of how much work was put into the game...then honestly...stop playing videogames or at least writing about them. That is the holy grail of videogames, one that you may never experience all of the content.

Apocalypse Shadow2969d ago (Edited 2969d ago )

is to please almost every racer's needs.

not everyone likes or plays the same type of racer.so GT is trying to cater to as many gamers as possible.some don't like simulation.so that's what arcade is for.some don't like regular cars and like nascar.some only like rally.some may like cart racing and there are more places opening up with indoor and outdoor cart racing.it is the KING of console racers.

on the other hand,GT also allows gamers to experience other types of racing that you may not have experienced before if you only play ONE TYPE.you can TRY it and end up liking it.or you may hate it.but having the OPTION is not a BAD thing.

the thing is though......

*GT ON BLURAY IS NOT OVERKILL.*

it's EXACTLY how a bluray release is supposed to be.MORE space means MORE content.and i'd rather most of it be on disc, than to have to BUY all the rest of it like some other game releases.this gen, developers are trying to get away with selling you sh!t that normally would be on disc.like extra costumes.SF4 is a perfect example.crap like that would not happen if it was made or only on bluray.

GT is the front runner and leader of what bluray stands for.you want to know if something is WORTH $60?then look to games like GT as the standard of what you should be buying.i didn't buy a ps3 at $600 and games at $60 to buy games that lack what i EXPECT a bluray game disc is supposed to have.

Chaostar2968d ago

All I was trying to say is that you come across very pessimistic and even turn what most people would see as positive into negative.

"I just feel that people won't see everything because of its amount of content which is sad because of how high quality the game is going to be."

As far as most people are concerned, the more content, the better. Your article is well written it just plays on false negatives in light of a delay. Sure people may get fed up waiting but the game will only get better and better.

hay2968d ago

I think you misunderstood the guy.
Let's use a metaphor(google if you don't know what is it):

It's like with love. You meet fantastic person, you're excited. The first days and weeks of being together are brilliant, full of emotions and happiness. Months pass, initial excitement fades, but you still love this person, still is fantastic, still you want to be with her/him.

Similar rule can be applied here. Try to think people.

"If Polyphony had of released their game years ago, they could have added a license or two as DLC, it would have been even worth it."

WHAT NONSENSE IS THIS? I DON'T EVEN....

You see, this is what M$ does to you. How on EARTH could you find this a problem? DLC. DLC??? Goodness gracious, as if purchasing the amount of exclusives and multi-plats aren't bad enough for my wallet. Nevermind indie games on the PSN/XBL.

Seriously, you are a bane to both gamers and gaming media.

-End statement

lostcatalyst2968d ago

I'm not trying to pessimistic and I know that GT5 is all about having a mountain of content to go through. It'd just be sad to see all their hard work be overlooked by "some" gamers. People have waited long enough to get their hands on this that they will make sure to see everything. I have a lot of respect for Polyphony and their game should be too; that means seeing everything that have made and given to you.

Shaymin2969d ago (Edited 2969d ago )

GT5 will last me a lifetime

MAG_SVER2969d ago (Edited 2969d ago )

I think this author's brain is in a "Oxymoron State".

It's like saying something is bitter & sweet at the same time, it just doesn't work that way choose a side & stop the damn whining.

his quote:

"Now that really sounds like you’re getting 4-5 games all in one package and that’s great, but you’re not. That’s all going to be crammed into one title. Chances are Polyphony will mix things up to keep things interesting. If they do this, I see a problem."

another one:

"If I want to play an open world street racing game, I’ll play Burnout Paradise and if I want to play a rally game I’ll play DiRT 2"

My Quote:

"How about you do this

"IF U DON'T LIKE CERTAIN ASPECTS OF THE GAME THEN DON"T PLAY OF VISIT THAT CONTENT & STOP LOOKING FOR ATTENTION ON SOMETHING YOU ARE SPECULATING WON"T WORK, WHICH THE REST OF US 99.9% ARE EAGERLY WAITING & DON'T CARE WHAT YOU LIKE OR THINK"

& rest of us will be happy & wouldn't miss you on the racing track.

DEAL ..now shut up & go play your arcade need for speed, that sounds like your type.

Like who wouldn't want a game with every type of car racing in it, is just plain stupid.

What is this world coming to, we get a lot for what we pay, but some want less. I'm lost helpppppppppppppppp!!!!!

I had to add more.. it's like having a Hot Chick & whining that she is too pretty with too many features.. WTF

Troll_Police2969d ago

People keep saying GT5 has been delays multiple times but the truth is that Nov. 2, 2010 was the only released date and that got delay ONCE. Can someone show me proof of the other release dates that got delayed, please?

GoldPS32969d ago (Edited 2969d ago )

I don't know dates but I think it was supposed to come out in Japan on March.

maxcer2968d ago

that fact that the game never even had a release date until e3 shows that even sony didn't know when the game was going to be released. and releasing demos of the game every one in a while probably didn't sit well with fans.
