Pirate Parties Plan to Shoot Torrent Site Into Orbit

TorrentFreak: "It is almost four years ago that The Pirate Bay announced they wanted to buy the micronation of Sealand, so they could host their site without having to bother about copyright law – an ambitious plan that turned out to be unaffordable. This week, Pirate Parties worldwide started brainstorming about a similarly ambitious plan. Instead of founding their own nation, they want to shoot a torrent site into orbit."

Obviously they don't believe in the term "sabotage", a multi-billion $ industry won't just stand there when their business is at jeopardy.

They would have to have many satellites. Just one would not be enough, because at best, 50% of the earth would not get its signal. I would say they would need at least 4. I guess they would put them into geosynchronous orbit.

This would be a MASSIVE undertaking, to say the least,

Well than we could get a timetable of when we can download the torrents... better than nothing if they are going to start banning the distribution of torrents.

Remember torrents are tiny so downloading them would take seconds even at slow satellite internet speeds.

Once you downloaded the torrent you could load it up and download the content from thousands of different people around the world.

why do people go to all this effort to not pay for things?

worthless human-beings.

FragMnTagM2914d ago

You have an iPod that is filled with 30,000 songs that you paid 1 dollar a piece for? I doubt it. I bet your music device like everyone else is filled with pirated music.

asyouburn2914d ago

you can get cd's really cheap from amazon, dude

SweetIvy2914d ago

Why do people take for granted that everyone should be as dishonest as themselves?
Some of us have principles and understand what creating means, the effort, the value of it and just do not warez stuff.
You know, it's called respect and if there was more of it, it would be a better world, all around.

bobrea2914d ago

Calling people worthless for torrenting certain things? Shut up

LastDance2910d ago

You sad person. Go cry in your pillow.

they can launch their own server into space but they will not be able to afford to maintain it much less protect it from some nation who decides to take Piracy into their own hands and launches a missile at it.

kancerkid2914d ago

It would be against all known international law to use a weapon in space.

gamingdroid2914d ago

The question would be if it is enforceable? There are plenty of laws that are there, but not upheld because people would frown upon it and with people I mean potentially countries or other entities.

bananlol2914d ago

You cant just shoot down a satelite. Because most satelites have pretty much the same mass they must be placed at a certain distance above sealevel, that means its pretty crowded up there, and blowing upp a satelite might damage others. What do you think china would say if an american missile damaged a chinese intelligence satelite?
