IGN: Kirby's Epic Yarn Review

IGN: It's pretty clear that game designers have come full circle. Back in the '80s and early '90s, the hardware forced them to perfect the side-scrolling platformer, but once 3D became an element to toy with, that's where the world went. Now that they've had their fill of huge, explorable open world environments, we're seeing a trend that brings us back to game designs that made us fall in love with video games. New Super Mario Bros, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Limbo, Super Meat Boy -- strict side-scrollers that embrace the limitations of the perspective enforced on them while still utilizing the tech at their disposal.

Can't wait to get this!!!!!!!!!!!!

Acquiescence3291d ago

Looking forward to dusting off the Wii for some ol' fashioned platforming goodness this Christmas with this and Epic Mickey. I miss platformers these days; there just aren't as many around these days.

New Super Mario Bros
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
No More Heroes 2
Monster Hunter Tri
Red Steel 2
Metroid Other M
NBA Jam
Sin & Punishment 2, and
Super Mario Galaxy 2

I'm sorry for you.

EDIT @below - you poor thing.

Acquiescence3291d ago

is No More Heroes 2, which granted I really should have got by now. The others, for various reasons, do not pique my interest remotely. For instance, I'm straight-up done with sports games, but if I were to buy one now then a basketball simulation would be pretty much at the bottom of my list. It all stems down to personal preference really.

Don't feel too sorry for me though, I've been having a rollicking good time with my PS3 this year.

Last time I played my Wii was SMG2. All of those other games outside of NMH2 and Metroid don't appeal to me. Feel 'sorry' all you'd like because Wii games today aren't the Nintendo games of the 90's.

care to post your games of interests?

qface643291d ago

you sir are an idiot

YOU not liking said games does not = wii having nothing
the wii has PLENTY of games you obviously don't like them since by the sound of it you just don't like the wii itself

DORMIN3291d ago

The artstyle is just amazing!

OneSneakyMofo3291d ago

There are more Wii fanboys on here than I thought. 7 people like Nintendo of today more than the Nintendo of the 90's. Sad.

EYEamNUMBER13291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

how does liking kirby make you a wii fanboy? that makes no sense
if anything it makes you a nintendo fan since your following the games and kirby just happens to be on the wii
no one ever even said they prefer the nintendo now over the 90's nintendo all im seeing is people who like kirby

the only thing that is actually sad is the fact that your actually sad/bothered by that REALLY? bothered that people have different tastes than you?
now that is something to be sad about

Talk about undeserving, since I'm sure none of you read the full review let me paraphrase it for you.

It's a great looking, standard run of the mill platformer that borrows from Super Mario Bros. Wii. The game is about 6 hours long and is very easy for your standard gamer (aka made for kids).

Art style is great, but it cannot and should not carry a game to an undeserved score. This game is an 8.5 at best and that's being generous.

lolzers3291d ago

You haven't played it ABizzel1, so your opinion means nothing. Come back when you've played it and completed it. Until that magical mystical time your thoughts on the game are worthless.

SovereignSnaKe3291d ago

i also have to recommend Muramasa and the Demon Blade! Fantastic Game!! :D))

Waseem can go play another brown or grey tech demo. Wii has the best reviewed game this year on ANY console. I bet you just cry about that. ;)

Love the artstyle, really wish I had a Wii

SexyPrawns3291d ago

$109 at GameStop, bro.

That's $100.62, with tax, if you work there...like me.

EYEamNUMBER13291d ago

what gamestop do you work at where the wiis are 109 dollars?

despair3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

yea game like this makes me want a Wii also but it looks like it plays pretty much like all the other sidescrolling platformers(mario, sonic etc.) just with the added twist of yarn, its also pretty easy according to the review. I'll get bored with it fast but its probably good for a lot of people.

I get tired of platformers that just have collecting and simple enemies, been playing that for 20 years.

eagle213291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

I'll get this by the holidays. Yes, Wii continues the awesome fun games. :)

This won Gamespot's Game Of E3 and Best Graphics of E3. I wonder what they scored it.
