Vanquish Game Informer Review Scan

According to Game Informer's review of Vanquish, the campaign lasts less than 4 hrs!!!! Here is a scan of the review. The second to last paragraph tells the bad news in which apparently the first play through can last less than 4 hrs.

Hahah, sometimes that happens indeed. Although still, you can spend hours, hell, even days trying to hunt a high-score. It's all about getting hooked up and having fun on the game, though, not about having a cinematic experience and then dropping it for other game.

Also, Neckbear cleared up the lenght. And no, cutscenes aren't counted on in-game time spent.

It's your kind of game if you simply enjoy playing it alone for high-scores, secrets and higher difficulties. If not, then stay away from it.

The Demo Was amazing but now I ask myself Why is the Game So Short? Bayonetta doenst have a Multiplayer mode but yet the game is atleast 8-10hours of campaign itself.

It's not really a campaign, that is, to say it's NOT like a Halo or God of War. Hell, it's even a departure from Bayonetta.

Vanquish has a scoring system, 5 different difficulties and a formula that works. There's no filler in this game.

It's like the best sandwich you've ever had. You may clear it in one sitting, but of course you'll have it again.

Also, pre-order bonus is like 3 additional guns. Might wanna snag it. Vanquish is an instant classic in the same vein as ZOE, S&P, and Gitaroo Man.

Not to mention the lack of a tacked on multiplayer mode. Seriously, when the campaign is the main focus, the game should be at least 10+ hours long, but if it's shorter, it should (idealistically) have some form of multiplayer (if the genre suits it that is, such as a shooter).

But 4 hours with no multiplayer mode, well this game is definitely not justified at $65.

Around 4-6 hours for the main campaign, although who knows if cutscenes and restarts are counted. Either way, talked to someone who got the game already, and said the level variety and everything was actually well done, with around 50-60 stages, there's a good challenge in the game, and the story is actually somewhat good.

He said the reason why it's short it's because you can speedrun through said levels. 50 Levels (5 Acts) that you can beat in around 5-10 minutes = 4/5 hours campaign. If you played the game like it was Gears of War, Uncharted or something like that, it'd last you more. Vanquish is all about speed, though.

He said the game has ALOT of replay value and secrets hidden here and there, as well as the challenge mode, scoreboards, higher difficulties, etc.

And more than anything, it's a Third Person Shooter that feels more like an Action Game, wich is a plus in my (and his) book. His veredict overall is that if you're a fan of action games, you'll replay this to hell and back mainly because it's a barebones action game with guns (Think Bayonetta as a Third Person Shooter.)

Although (going by his words), if you simply leave a game aside after the credits roll, this just isn't the game for you.

Also, to all those worried and dissapointed, meh, hope they see this post before posting "dissapointment of the year!", "rental", etc.

Also, I believe the one submitting the article should at least try to type "hours" instead of "hrs".

This game is for me. I knew Platinum Games would find ways to increase the replay value of the game, but if you're trying to master the game's mechanics it should take longer than 4-6 hours to do so.

Than alot of reviews are going to cut down scores for:

Not having multiplayer.

Being somewhat short.

Despite mechanics being fantastic, there are a few shortcomings here and there when it comes to level design (You have to wait a few seconds for doors to open, elevators, and enemies to appear).

Also, see my post up there to clear off your doubts. I was kinda worried too, but talked to him and realized I'd still buy it.

i recommend watching and playing, full metal alchemist, bleach, naruto, casshern (huge emphasis on casshern), soul eater, the tekken story (people say its confusing, but it really isnt), cowboy bebop, one piece (maybe not one piece so much), blood plus,ff12, old boy,midnight dancers...etc.there is tons more, which i forgot. these stories are usually about loners. they not loners because they socially retarded or something in that vein. no, they loners because their family's were murdered, they were abandoned as babies etc. its unbelievably depressing, but they are so damn hot and powerful, you kind of dont care that they so messed up.

I know Japanese anime/manga can be quite twisted or even psychotic (read beserk, monster, mirai nikki of the top of my head) but the JRPGs are usually not that demented even if there are a lot of cliches.

FO3 was a buggy mess on EVERY bloody platform and I came across most issues with the PC version that a mate had(I'd already been let down by the game itself on PS3 purely because it wasn't up to the standards the previous FO games set, the shooting was borked and VATS was too arbitrary-it ignored it's own numbers!So, now, along with the recycled bits of TES:4, FO3 is that game everyone loves and I just don't get!!)but across my circle of mates there was plenty of moaning whatever version they picked up.

Bethesda have been the industry leaders in the move to get us gamers paying to do QA on supposedly finished games , though, aren't they? Obsidian have to bow to them as well so I expect more of the damn same with FO:NV. Thankfully, I don't care as I'm THAT guy who doesn't like FO3 anyway but the glitches will be back for the rest of you. Whatever you play it on as well.

How much have you actually played of it then? They mainly crop up later in the game, when your save file gets to be 11+mb. There are a few bugs earlier on, but if you're lucky enough, you'll miss them, but the real sh*t starts later on in the game.

I've beat FO3s story missions, all the main games side missions, and 2 of the DLCs. I only played 2, because it freezes and has framerate issues a LOT now, and I barely made it through Point Lookout. Look around some of the reviews on Amazon, other people have the problems as well.

This Game is from Platinum. If you guys would have played Bayonetta, you'd know how their formula works: A short but spectacular story, but BUTTLOADS of unlocks, secrets, and additional challanges. Bayo could be finished in under 5 hours, but to get really everything, you had a count of at least 60 hours on your clock, as i did.

MOH hardly qualifies here. It's MP is quite good.
I found the single player kinda perfect in pace and length.
I play fps for the MP...if the single player is more than 6-8hrs I'll never finish it due to the MP hunger and whatever newsy title coming out. (moh single is about 4-5hrs)

Now, with Vanquish...with such a compelling art style and universe, seems criminal not to develop a decent length. I have it already paid off. But this length has me concerned.
Replay for cool unlocks or additional story plots....that'd be nice. But replay for scores on a leaderboard? Lame.

On the otherside of this is the fact that if we as gamers shun this sort of thing. We might get longer single player from devs. But, we might also get stuck with all FPS's!

Demo was cool as all hell and for speed ruins and challenges with mates and the wider community this should be a breath of fresh air in the TPS genre. I like ~Gears ands I like Uncharted but this isn't like those gamnes beneath the immediate surface, now is it? I'm not sure I could put up with a long, twenty hour campaign at Vanquish speeds anyway, could anyone? My head boggles at the thought of it! Organised chaos is brilliant in short doses but like the arcade games it recalls Vanquish isn't meant for extended play sessions but rather sharp bursts of uber excitement which, to me, the demo delivered in spades.

My better half , to this very day, still does Sonic2 speed runs in the hope of breaking a record or two so I totally get the desire for games like this one. If you don't, fair enough, but don't lambast it for having a different ethos to most TPS. It works perfectly for what it is, if it doesn't work for you just walk away but don't knock it just because it's not trying to be the usual shooter package cos there's tons of replay in there for those so inclined.

Thank you. At least one person gets it. The game isn't ment to be seen as a simple 3rd person shooter. The replayability is souly what the player themselves puts into it.

The goal isn't to see what there is to see and be done with it. The goal is to continue playing the levels over and over improving completion time, ammo used, accuracy etc. It's based on player self improvement through repitition. A player could easily spend more than 15-20 hours on the game trying to improve each levels time to the best of their personal abilities.

Detractors of this game obviously play too many video games and are just spoiled / arrogant. It's an arcade style game so stop measuring up against games that aren't.

The demo is awesome. It's intense, it's challenging and it's really fun. If you thought it was sh!t you're too wrapped up in stupid preconceptions derived from other games that are more commercially successful or some dumb sh!t like that. I'm still pumped for the game, I know there is a challange mode because it was the mode for the second demo. I also love the scoring system, gives me more incentive to go back and improve on my score.

It's one review, and yeah I like Gameinformer's reviews more than the average mag but i've played many games in which I disagreed entirely with them, so i'll wait until it gets a few more reviews.

Wasent there a story a few days ago where a euro xbox mag gave it a perfect score and said that it was "The most important shooter in ages?"

If the game is 4 hours so what? so is Medal of Honor, and COD will be aswell. Yeah they have "multiplayer" but when the multiplayer sucks who cares?

I don't care about multiplayer most of the time anyway so that was never an issue for me, most games tack on needless multiplayer, and the others are filled with biggots, homophobes, and cheaters.

The issue of the short 4 hour campaign can easily be resolved by purchasing $30 of DLCs over the next few months to extend your your total gameplay to 6 hours. Isn't console gaming great?

They got me to play Bayonetta 3 times in a row starting from "Normal", "Hard", to "Non-Stop Climax". Its the arcade touch that kept me playing.

At first i was like F this im not going to play Hard mode. But i couldnt resist and before I knew it I finished Climax mode.

If this game can doe the same, i dont care if its 4 hours, cause ill play it over ander over.
