PS3's Move Selling 'Extremely Well at Retail,' says Sony

With the NPD report for September now out, the platform companies are beginning to chime in. Microsoft already claimed victory with Xbox 360 console sales taking first place, but Sony seems equally pleased with their performance, particularly with PlayStation Move. Although the company isn't sharing actual hard data just yet, Sony told IndustryGamers that it's very happy with Move's sales so far.

We need to see some numbers on Move

Blaze9293291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

lol...no numbers Sony? Who knows what "Extremely Well" means to them.

InfectedDK3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

"Move has had “very significant sales in the first month since launch, somewhere in the region of 1.5 million units for the new controller across just Europe,” House said. “The initial sales response has been so far in excess of our initial plan that we’ll probably be looking at accelerating production.”"

EDIT: Wow so many haters here.. The thing is that it sells well for them.. That's.. Good for everyone? Move along 360 only gamers..

extremely well = surpassing their expectations = good

Biggest3291d ago

Does it matter? Go play with the damned thing. Trust me when I say it's a lot more fun than playing the sales troll game.

Bigpappy3291d ago

I need independent figures, not PR figures. I will have no choice but to use VGchartz and ignore M$ and Sony.

Rush3291d ago

Reach sells 40 million units day one says Microsoft.

ImpartialMan3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

what are you implying??

are you saying that SOny and MS are faking their numbers?? or cooking books?? or keeping 2 books??

U realize that is violating SEC regulation.... and it can have huge impact on stockmarket if found false.

MS and Sony numbers are accurate as it gets. but you have to remember that numbers are SOLD to retailers.

so plz. if you have no idea what you are talking about. just stay quite. that way you wont embarrass yourself

@Blaze929 Hahaah.

and people whine about this site being ran by PS fanboys??

btw. 1.5 million units in europe only and it is not even out in Japan.

HolyOrangeCows3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

See InfectedDK's post. Learn a little something.

ABizzel13291d ago

Well they sold 500k in the US alone in 1 month, so my guess is they've sold 1 million worldwide.

raztad3291d ago

@Abbizael

1.5m only in EU.

Those 500K are VGCHARTZ figures, I cant take them seriously.

Sheikh Yerbouti3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

Why should Sony think that you care? I'm sure NPD is tracking; it's just not publishing anymore. They sell that information, y'know? To whom, you may ask...market researchers and people employed in the industry.

NOT frickin' trolls and fanboys. You are not even a though for places like EEDAR and NPD. Why should you even need to know? Sony will tell you when it suits their PR purposes.

Well guess what? Bloomberg has just reported“very significant sales in the first month since launch, somewhere in the region of 1.5 million units for the new controller across just Europe."

JUST EUROPE. That means Move likely has sold around 3 million worldwide in a months time. Halo What? Halo Who? They moved 3.3 million. That is still a lot, but Move just as many units. In the process it has already reached the goal Kinect set for its holiday.

Happy now? Careful what you bitch about.

Anon19743291d ago

The quarterly report for July/Aug/Sept is due at the end of the month. I'm sure we'll see numbers then, not before.

RageAgainstTheMShine3291d ago

I like it when M$ & its cronies keep on yapping about sales figures and units shipped while Sony give them the silent treatment. Ha,ha,ha, now I know.

RockmanII73291d ago

That's not good for people who would rather use a controller to play your games.

All they said is they are pleased.
What they think from a business perspective is between them and their share holders. Not us gamers.

The only thing Sony needs to show me, a gamer, is games and and they are kicking ass in that regard.

bustamove3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

What was Sony supposed to say? It's selling...bad?

I would think it's selling well. That's from their viewpoint. Like Brutally Honest said, they're pleased?

What's with the trolling?

Hallmark Moment3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

What are the odds NPD stops tracking hardware a month before Kinect comes out after tracking hardware for years and MSFT's competition fails to report any real numbers only PR? The Japanese companies have been taking a beating lately and Kinect will be the game changer none of them wants. NPD magically stops tracking hardware and the Japanese companies immediately take advantage of not reporting anything!

Blitzed3291d ago

Are you suggesting the NPD group are in bed with Japanese companies? I think your tin foil hat is on a little too tight.

kneon3291d ago

I thought they said that they were still tracking, but that only those that pay for the reports will get the data.

snp3291d ago

What does this have to do with the thread at hand?

Why are you here? Another ps3 fanboy 'victim'? Another troll who doesn't have a mirror.

Seriously dude, have a good think about it first next time.

Kinda interesting that Sony didn't reveal any hardware data. If they are indeed happy with the sales, why not show them?

spektical3291d ago

they dont have to.. all in due time.

DaTruth3291d ago

We usually have the hard numbers when NPD releases, so you never noticed that they never actually give numbers, they just comment on them!

Now that you don't have the numbers, are you expecting Sony to change their comment style?

TheLastGuardian3291d ago

They don't have too but I want to know. They deserve to sell extremely well. If you don't have at least 1 move controller, you are missing out.

cayal3291d ago

Sony PS3/Move do sell extremely well, so it's immaterial.

R_aVe_N3291d ago

I haven't really seen Sony display a lot of care about hardware sales like most company's this time around they usually just state if it is on target or above the target goals.

Theoneneo813291d ago

because unlike 360 they care about selling Good quality games 360 focuses on systems because the only thing they have now is ports.

Hades13373291d ago

Yeah that must be the reason...

Biggest3291d ago

Don't forget Kinect! It's super, duper awesome! Microsoft cares about that a hell of a lot more than they care about games or consoles.

3291d ago
OC_MurphysLaw3291d ago

We know 360 came in first per Greenburg...483,989 hardware units in September

We know they are the only one who had year over year growth....

So given that... we know Sony and Nintendo are down. I highly doubt we will see any figures from them. Instead we will get boiler plate responses from PR. "We are pleased wtih Move Sales" Really, ok so what were they? Any time any of these companies doesn't perform well we are going to see this kind of response. If they really were happy we would see numbers from them.

Like wise, I wonder if we will see anything from Nintendo?

CharlesDCI3291d ago

Their year over year growth is from Halo games. lol

Biggest3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

You lost me at "only one". The PS3 isn't selling better than the 360 year over year? And if the 360 has had year over year growth, why did this, http://www.mcvuk.com/news/3... happen?

Edit: I am expecting some kind of visual proof to disprove what I posted. Please add some with your angry disagrees.

DaTruth3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

Last year Sony dropped the Slim in September and sold 1.5 million consoles in the first week!

Are you expecting year over year growth over that?

Last years NPD was like 1 million for PS3. What was 360's Slim first month like? No where near that? I thought so!

[email protected]: I have a life, so I don't research comments. Thought that was clear from the "like 1 million". I'll save that for the crappy blogs and fanboys! Just knew it was a lot and that there is no expectation for beating it this year!

What did 360 Slim sell in Japan? What about Europe? Your 483,000 is looking smaller and smaller! Sony's 491,000 is on top of crazy sales in Japan and Europe and I didn't hear MS talking about those territories!

OC_MurphysLaw3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

Not sure if you are talking worldwide or NPD... given this is NPD...that is what I was referencing.

For your reference:

2009 Sony NPD's -

PS3 - 491,800
Wii - 462,800
Xbox 360 - 352,600
http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

So... 491,000 not exactly the 1 million you were just spouting off about.

We can also now guess that Sept. Sony numbers are less than 491,000 given Greenburg telling all that MS was the only one to have Year over year growth for Sept. this year.

oh and for the record I would consider 483,989 units and 491,000 units to be pretty close if you ask me.

[email protected] lol... I researched your comment because I was pretty sure it was way off. As for the "I have a life comment"...well your 4260 comments on this site would say a little differnt. I am not much better admitedly with 2503. I suppose we both need more sun...less N4G.

DaTruth3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

How come all NPD previous data is rounded to the nearest hundred, but this time 360's number is rounded to the nearest 1?

483,989??? That's some estimate!

Edit: I have a wife and two kids and f'in around on N4G is about the only thing I can do and still pay attention to them! You simply can't watch a child from one to 24 months while playing videogames and you can't do it from the club!

Having a wife and children = having a life

Maybe Sony doesn't brag about numbers every five minutes and would RATHER display quality products instead.

Ever thought about that?

units3291d ago

they do it every year at E3

Silly gameAr3291d ago (Edited 3291d ago )

How many pre-orders does Kinect really have? Hmmm. Haven't seen any numbers, yet everyone takes MS word that it's sold out and a huge success. Interesting. :/

1.5 million is the number from europe

http://www.bloomberg.com/ne...

ngecenk3291d ago

they should put more detail on this 1.5. im a little bit skeptical it reached 1.5. if it was, it should be a big news everywhere.

kanetheking3291d ago

would mean they sold 1.5mil.how much detail do you want how much money was made on each sale or where are the move controllers now?

SiteNblog Defender3291d ago

1.5 million = shipped to retailers.

Sevir043291d ago

Sony has stopped counting shipped numbers since June 2007. every hardware sold has been sold to to consumers. thje whole shipped to retail thing is known as channel stuffing in retail chain to meet demand in stock from investers and sony's investers threatened to pull stock when they were reporting shipped numbers rather than sold because their actual sold numbers were lower than their forecast for when they shipped. So they changed their reporting data.

get educated please.
