A former employee of SEGA who worked on the audio component for Shenmue has said that he is “certain” legendary game designer Yu Suzuki wanted to release a third instalment in the long-lost adventure series for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
They should look at Squares Success on the Xbox360.
platform really isnt to blame. its the creative teams behind these games and their direction that makes or brakes how it does. If you have a really great team that can make a great game then it would do well to sell regardless of platform. If you have a team that is not so great and it shows in their product then you can pretty much tell they are just riding the coattails of a name. Sega did quite well on the original xbox which lead me to think shenmue would be coming to the 360. Now with yakuza such a hit I dont see why sega would go back down that path now. It may very well be a launch title for the Phoenix (dreamcast 2). That series has garnered so much following that if sega were to make it a launch title, the unit would sell like crazy. But alsa, that may never happen...or would it?
I know this is going to be an unpopular comment, but hear me out. Shenmue 3 will need to change the core gameplay or fall behind. Reviewers have already showered hate on "all those dang QTEs" in God of War 3 and Heavy Rain. In addition, Shenmue 2 was not all that good compared to the first one. They'd also need to have better voice acting. They'd need a bigger and better world.
WTF, i posted this http://n4g.com/news/624022/... :-(
Man i truly hope its in the works! NO MATTER FOR WHICH SYSTEM just as long as there is a Shenmue 3.
They're making one... on japanese cel phones...
ENOUGH OF THIS TALKING MAKE IT FUCKING HAPPEN!
from another story. Incorrect, was not a developer, was a music composer.
"PS3 or 360" is not the same as "PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360"
I wonder what he would rather make it on?
best on both. Dreamcast owners have fled to both consoles since the death of the dreamcast. if this ever happens, it has to be done properly. no bad ports or whatsoever. also bring HD ports of Shenmue 1 and 2 to both consoles, that whay, people will see what they missed out and catch up with the story.
This, THIS, and MORE THIS!!!
Just release it in HD for the XBox 360 and PS3! And since you're are it, take Panzer Dragoon Saga, give it the Beyond Good and Evil treatment and re-release it on XBLA and PSN! C'mon Sega, don't you like your fans and to make some money? BTW, Comix Zone 2, it's about time guys!
do people that mainly play 360 want this type of game?
That's right, XBox 360 owners only play shooters, we all know that.
If it was only on 360, wouldn't that convince people who like this type of game to get a 360? If no, then it's more their fault than the developer's.
Shenmue 2 was on Xbox.
That doesn't mean most Xbox gamers enjoyed it.
sold less than on dreamcast..and thats sad ='( I say Shenmue I & II remakes + NEW SHENMUE CONCLUDING THE STORY in one blu-ray! The end was so frustrating...and the end of the 2nd was so sh!t I expected something more! AND I'M STILL WAITING.
I bought an OG XBOX for Shenmue 2. I was one of a VERY few...
I got it on Xbox, but I wanted it on Dreamcast.
Shenmue 1 was king.
PS3 please haven't touch it in a minute
ok than XBOX360 please but its gonna have to wait till i finish reach and black ops is that better disagree ppl
I just hope this happens because i love Shenmue games any console and i will buy it day one
What was the experience like when you played it back in the Dreamcast days? :)
Amazing i played it when i was like 10 i think ? was surprised when the 2nd one came out so quick but its frustrating the way the 2nd ended and theres been nothing for near 10 years and all this talk about, what it could be or how it can be done. is anoying i think Sony or MS should just get some deal sorted out !
it was so immersive and was so full with everything. it had: -investigatory like dialogues with people to progress through story and side quests -open-ish world with shops, loads on dialogue open NPC's, bustling city (always busy with each NPC having their own daily schedule) -fighting (story and random) which worked a bit like Yakuza in the sense that you had moves, and combo's. It was very well done, since you had to train your moves (at a dojo or gym) and you'd always fight multiple enemies at a time *not to spoil anything, but once certain part consists of you fighting through 80 enemies) -one of the first (and still best) inclusions of QTE's, which really added to its immersion and story telling -mini games (loads of sega classics, or classic chinese street games) - and above all, amazing story, with one of the best endings (Shenmue I) and one of the best sequels ever (shenmue II) I'm probably missing loads of stuff, since this game is HUGE and one of the most immersive ever. It will also take you well over 30 hours to do everything in each game(collect all tokens, get all moves, do all quests, etc), which is a total of 60 hours, not bad for a non RPG.
It was breath taking...... A vast open world where you can interact with just about everything that surrounds you. It brought us Quick Time Events which during the time showed us how to interact with cutscenes in a game (Only other game I saw this was Dragon's Lair for the PC). It brought us an environment that changes from Day to Night, and Rain to Snow. When I first saw the adaptation of a weather system in a video game it was surreal. The gameplay played like an exploratory adventure game where once you get into combat the game changes into a Virtual Fighter engine thus changing it into a 3D Fighter (There was one section of the game where you and a companion had to fend off against 70 men check video comment) One of my favorite parts of Shenmue was the ability to play Space Harrier at the arcade and on the console at your house. It was a first thing for me to play a video game within a video game. However overall it was the story that captivated to play the game so many times over and over again. "He comes from a far eastern land, across the ocean. A young man who has yet to realize his own potential. This potential is a power that can both destroy him, as well as assure that his will is realized. Perhaps he will achieve the balance that were marking of a man of courage. The path he must traversed is brought with adversity, and filled with expectations. I await whilst praying, for the realization of this destiny predetermined since ancient times. The pitch black night unfolds with the morning star as its only light. And thus, the saga begins..." I yearn for a conclusion to this story....
Words can't express how much i want shenmue 3.But im getting sick and tired of sega talking about shenmue but not make shenmue 3 and to see the name shenmue being downgraded to a crappy mobile phone game it breaks my heart. SEGA MAKE IT FUDGIN HAPPEN.
I would hope they would make it for all consoles. Everyone should have a chance to experience Shenmue!
yes ^^^ this
All this talk about a game that is now 10 years old. the is no way they can keep putting it off. the fans want Shenmue 3 or atleast shenmue 1 and 2 released on PSN/Arcade very few games still get so much hype 10 years after release and dont get some sort of remake or sequel. its gonna happen, give it time. will be some big surprise at E3 or something like that. its the one chance sega have at actually making a good game and jumping straight back into the limelight. shenmue 1 and 2 are still the best games ever made. anyone whose played them will agree.
They need to make this happen - asap.
PC version!!! Damn you!!!
I agree with you. The one thing that makes me still cling to Shenmue is the fact the game was meant to be a trilogy (Just like the Viewtiful Joe series) and without the third title in the series we the fans are left in the dark on what happens for the story. This case is extremely true for Shenmue: Will Ryo ever avenge his fathers death? What was that Giant Mirror doing in the cavern in Guilin? Why is there a guarantee for another Modern Warfare game when creative games like this get canned off to the side? WHY!!!!!!!!
I found Shenmue for cheap and I just got a dreamcast back. Still one of my favorite games of all time. I really wish Sega would listen to the fans and give us what we want. Shenmue 3 and Shenmue 1&2 xbox live/psn.
I used to laugh at my friends inferior consoles when i played shenmue what an engaging game first time i seen the spoons in the draw it blew my mind photorealistic cutlery in the second game getting off the boat to continue the story was brill.
make it happen!!!
would prefer a ps3 exclusive but why not both? it would be stupid to just put it on the 360.
