Digital Spy writes: "As will become abundantly clear to all Castlevania veterans, Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow is a very different beast to the classic 2D iterations of the series. Konami describes the game as an "ambitious revamp" of the franchise by developer MercurySteam, but it seems more like a brand new property. The game throws up the usual dark horde of beasts to be sent back to the underworld, though its heavy focus on action bears more similarities to God Of War and Dante's Inferno than the previous exploration-heavy titles in the Castlevania series. The lengthy campaign is a strictly linear adventure, although also a pretty good one. The action is fast-paced and enjoyable, while the presentation is jaw-dropping in parts. All in, Lords Of Shadow is well worth a look for action-adventure fans, but the Castlevania hardcore may be left scratching their heads as to what it's trying to be."
