Senator Yee's office recommends you mail him Kinect, not 'dated controllers'

In a cheeky response to the Video Game Voters Network initiative to bombard California senator Leland Yee's office with old and broken controllers, Yee's chief of staff Adam Keigwin told GamePolitics, "I think the Senator would appreciate a Kinect add-on rather than those dated controllers." That wasn't his only zinger.

thebudgetgamer5371d ago

i say we all mail him 5200 controllers.

-_-

Bigpappy5371d ago

This is exactly the type that Kinect will draw into gaming. They haven't had any fun since they were 6 years old. They could easily get addicted and tell the wifee that they are exercising.

bustamove5371d ago

...You're kidding me, right?

R2D25370d ago

Does your mother and father play Gears or Killzone?

Kinect is looking to capture that crowld that the Wii had but could not keep them due to the lack of games support.

I am not buying Kinect for my self but will get it it for my son/daughter and wife and hope that Kinect can make them enjoy gaming as much as I do. I tried playing gears with my wife but her firsst complaint was why are there so many buttons and what happend to the A and B with platform games days.

.
Although I'm a PS3 fan I just want to say one thing, in terms of 3D tracking Kinect is far superior to the PS-Eye due to it's two extra cameras dedicated to viewing in three dimensions. Now all MS have to do is come out with a motion controller that's got everything the PS-Move has inside it, but make the Kinect track the device for 3D tracking and BAM! you have a PS-Move killer.

But MS are too dumb to even conceive such an idea, so I hope Sony are reading this, because a new 3D PS-Eye with an infrared beam will give far superior 3D tracking than a standard camera tracking a glowing ball for 3D tracking.

EDIT: Just to put it in simpler terms, my idea could ultimately get rid of the glowing ball on top of the PS-Move and could also make the PS-Move super accurate with lag smaller than 22ms or around 10-8ms.

gamingdroid5371d ago

I think the technology behind Kinect is leaps and bounds above what the PS Eye can offer. Some of the technology is just something that emerged in the last few years. The whole story behind Kinect can be found here if you are interested:

http://www.wired.co.uk/wire...

In terms of getting rid of the of the glowing ball, technically we already have the Xbox 360 controller. It doesn't provide gyroscopes or accelerometers, but I'm not sure that is necessary when you can determine that to some degree from the footage. It's standard and everyone is guaranteed to have one.

Reducing lag would be reliant on faster algorithms to detect motion and better hardware components i.e. chips, not by including a 3D camera.

xtreampro_REVENGE!5371d ago (Edited 5371d ago )

Yeah you're probably right about lag, but what I was trying to say is that the PS-Move needs the glowing ball because the PS-Eye can't see how far away the PS-Move is without that glowing ball ecause it can't track in 3D.

With a camera like Kinect 3D tracking is where it shines and it'd be able to track an object in 3D space without the device/object having to have a ball or some type of tracking device stuck to it because it can see in 3D like our eyes.

So instead of the ball helping the PS-Eye track in 3D, the PS-eye will be doing all the work itself without any help coming from the controller if it had two extra cameras and an infrared beam.

But my idea requires Sony to make a new camera which is why I think PS-Move 2 should work like how I have described above.

BillOreilly5370d ago

I say split the 360 controller into 2 handheld controllers with an analog stick on each 2 L2,L1,R1,R2 buttons on each so fps can use kinect. Use the hh controller to walk or button pres and kinect to body track for gestures, voice commands exc. You dont need to track the cont. because kin tracks your body so they would be the same as the pad we have just split into 2. Cheap easy addition to make it work better.

Mystogan5371d ago (Edited 5371d ago )

Kinect Technology is Patented

Dude just stop it..for 3D tracking you need 3 cameras and when it uses 3 cameras it will end up with Microsoft Sueing sony.

I really don't think Sony will ever do a 3D camera even if it is some new never before seen technology, After all they said about having buttons and dissing Kinect for NOT having buttons.

MS on the other hand can still do some extra Wiimote-like Accesory for more precision in shooters...which is only a matter of time before that happens.

dredgewalker5371d ago

You mean a "controller" with "buttons" to help out Kinect? Doesn't that actually defeat the purpose of Kinect? If Kinect ever needed such an "accessory" then it's the same as MS admitting that buttons are needed.

Mystogan5371d ago (Edited 5371d ago )

Well kinda but they won't be as embarrased as sony since they never said anything like ''BUTTONS ARE NOT NEEDED F**K THE CONTROLLER''...Thats what sony basically said about kinect..only its the other way around
''BUTTONS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED F**K KINECT''

While MS Says: no controller REQUIRED and they never made fun of Move or the WII with their commercials..which sony did do

Point is MS shouldn't be embarrased if they do add something extra for the Core gamers that do want that extra precision

dredgewalker5371d ago

Isn't MS slogan for Kinect "You are the controller", and also an additional accessory would make it much more expensive. MS did bash Move by saying that it's a more expensive set-up and Rare did claim that controllers are more laggy than Kinect. Anyway I'm really just trying to have a discussion with you cause you've been decent enough to answer me with a decent reply which I really appreciate.

Mystogan5371d ago

thats why i said for core gamers it should be packed with some shooters or an additional kinect packet specially for core gamers.

dredgewalker5371d ago

My whole point in what I said is adding an additional accessory will discredit what Kinect is trying to attempt and that is a controllerless interface in gaming. It's not impossible for Kinect to work with a controller but after all that pr about the controller beig made obsolete by Kinect and then adding it is an awful way to make a statement and a testament that controllers and buttons are absolutely needed in gaming.

All Microsoft have to do is come out with another controller, to achieve wha the move offers... all Sony have to do is tell ya to buy a second PS-Eye.

*rolls eyes*

Software_Lover5371d ago

Im just gonna leave that one alone

Vegeta90005371d ago

She wants to get that Kinect game where you put your head up her butt to make an elephant.

FragMnTagM5370d ago

So what? I have played the Wii with several family members and always have a good time. I see no difference with Kinect, in fact, it will probably be more fun as I don't have to explain buttons.

clintos595371d ago

Maybe they forgot that dvd drives & dvd's are also outdated. Im just saying.

Software_Lover5371d ago

They are still being used today by the vast majority?

Information Minister5371d ago

Aren't controllers also being used today by the vast majority?

Strikepackage Bravo5371d ago

if DVDs are outdated, then so is blueray, since all bluray is, is a High Def DVD. You fanboys are amazing LOL!

AntoineDodson5371d ago

A blu-ray is a high def DVD? You kidding right? Try playing one in one of your "high def dvd players"..

dredgewalker5371d ago

@Strike

Try cramming 50 gigs on a single dvd, good God your logic is so full of holes. And calling other people fanboys doesn't help if your reasoning is completely faulty in itself. Get some common sense and a good education, trust me it will help you out a lot in real life.

FragMnTagM5370d ago

It is a DVD, taken to the next level. It uses very similar things but enhanced versions of those things.

1. DVD's and Blu-Ray's use an optical laser to read data.
2. They are both discs.
3. Data is read off of tiny grooves embedded in the plastic of the disk.
4. Both made of plastic.

SO he is not 100% wrong, but there is no denying that a Blu-Ray is superior tech. Blu Ray movies are very nice indeed.

The only thing I hate about Blu Rays is their damn aspect ratio sometimes. Why aren't they in 16:9 and take up my whole screen? Nothing pisses me off more than having a 58" Plasma in 1080p to watch a movie on roughly half of the screen.

End of off topic statement.

Moonboots5371d ago (Edited 5371d ago )

you sound like you took personal offense to this thus the reason you went way off topic. Was it because she wanted Kinect or is it because you feel a special connection to your controller? I'm just saying..

Playdead co-founder Dino Patti is allegedly being sued by his former studio and business partner.
Patti was threatened with a lawsuit earlier this year after he posted a now-deleted LinkedIn post that shared an "unauthorized" picture of co-founder Arnt Jensen and discussed some of Limbo's development. Patti said Jensen demanded a little over $73,000 in "suitable compensation and reimbursement," adding that he had "repeatedly" had such letters over the last nine years.
