Guerrilla Games: Not Many People Completed Killzone 2

Of the almost 3 million people who bought Killzone 2, how many would you’ve guessed completed the single player campaign? If you said half, you’re still wrong.

Apparently, like many other games, not many Killzone 2 owners saw the game to its completion.

KZ2 had a great campaign, although on the short side, it was definitely action-packed.

Real hardcore gamers are a dying breed it seems. Heck nowadays if a game doesn't have auto aim & the appropriate amount of XP on kniving it's considered crap and broken :(

KZ's SP story and universe just gets me hooked more than usual for FPSs (outside something like Half Life) Once I start I can't seem to stop 'till I beat it on Elite.

Just can't get enough 'till I know I've beaten it through and through.

i have KZ2, never played it. I have finished R1, R2, WAW, MW2, but KZ2, i can't motivate my self to play it, those controls ....
If you wonder why i have it, its because my brother bought it, i played some of beta back in the the day. When it comes to finishing SP, i tend to do it 90% of the time, whats the point otherwise? I think Overlord 2 is only game on PS3 that i haven't finished.

I finished Killzone 2 all the way on the hard difficulty until I chickened out of beating Radec in which I toned down the difficulty. It was a good SP experience, but like all FPSes this gen I just mindlessly mashed through a pretty thin story and characters.

I still need to kick his ass on the harder level.

Honestly, I don't finish a lot of my games. It's not that I'm not "hardcore", it's that either there are too damn many or I lose interest quickly. It's something odd this generation that I never had the problem with last gen.

Last gen I played a game and would be hooked till the end. This gen I can't seem to keep up. Games like GTAIV, Dragon Age, etc.

I can finish Killzone because it's a decent length game. It's not too long that it stretches out and loses my interest. As for controls, I didn't mind them in SP, it felt right, it's MP that I had control issues with.

And I'm looking forward to Killzone 3's SP Campaign too. Expecting Guerrilla Games will mix it up now that they added jet packs and new environments to play with And maybe add some new additions, like Bosses or more cinematic shots like Uncharted 2 & Infamous 2?

KZ2 didn't take that long to get through the campaign, and as nice as it looked, it was utterly trash. Couldn't stand it. Completely forgettable. I still to this day can never remember the main character's name and I still don't think there was a story other than the war was taken to the Helgast's planet.

Online was much more fun.

I don't really blame anyone for not going through or finishing the campaign since it isn't exactly something amazing like Half Life series or Perfect Dark (the first one) but it was absolutely adrenaline filled and did a good job of portraying the sensation of being smack dab in the middle of a war zone. One of my favorite parts of the game was storming across the bridge because of the huge AI battle.

Just didnt feel it. Controls while different were just fine wouldnt say weighted but different. Graphics were just ok. Cutscenes though were very detailed. Just wasnt the game for me.

UT3 I only player the first 3 levels and realized the story was non existent so I jumped into custom game mode instead.

GTA4 even though its one of my most played games I never bothered with the story the lack of checkpoints the bad cutscenes and stopped going to missions points

Motor Storm no real reason just got bored of being forced to use vehicles I didn't want to use so I replayed the first few maps again and again

Red Faction Guerilla same reasons as GTA

But I did finish KZ2 and enjoyed it the ending was kind of a wdf moment but I was also happy cause it pretty much confirmed that there would have to be a KZ3

I beat Killzone 2 on Hard(just before Elite) and I didn't get any extra trophy for trudging through the campaign, just the same trophy that you would get if you beat it on Easy. That really pissed me off.

Radec is one of the easiest even on Elite. Just stand in a corner in the bottom of the large hall (not in the doorways) and shoot him when he runs at you. He will disappear twice and run at you again the second re-appear. Keep shooting him and he will stop right before he gets to you and disappear. Continue until he's dead.

His goons, as jerethdagryphon pointed out, are much more difficult. Hope this helps.

On Topic: I got Platinum on Killzone 2 and still play now and then because it's just that good. I happen to love the controls and story. I still can't understand why people whine so much about the controls. Can't wait for KZ3.

I beasted kz2 on single player. Not only have I completed the game, i've done so on every difficulty. However I am only sitting at 60% on the trophy hunt.. Kz2 has some tuffies.. But yea beating radec on elite? My lord that was tense, challenging, and uber rewarding when I finally bested him.. Salivating for kz3!

Multiplayer is very fun in KZ2 it's not perfect but it is soild, and There are still plenty of people playing.

....wile I finished KZ2, considering it seems that the majority only care about multi and shrug at SP, developers are now pouring all time and energy and effort into MP and doing the SP as an after thought when last gen it was the other way around.

THis amazes me too in that so many people will plunk down $60 for a game and only play half of it and in some cases not even check out the SP. Unless you get an MMP pr a game like MAG which is built for only MP, I still find it funny that people are ok paying full price for only playing half a game.

We need to go old school soon and concentrate on SP more than Multi. I love MP dont get me wrong but what gets me to buy a game is story and characters. Otherwise, pretty much everything, like FPS games, are all the same but with a diff mod. I mean really, ESPECIALLY with FPS games, why keep buying them when, for the most part, the MP all boil down to the same damn thing?

I would love for another Half Life type FPS, hell, even doing something like Bio Shock again, I mean give us a great story around 12 hour in length and make the MP as an added bonus.

I agree with you %100. The main draw of multiplayer has always been competition. I remember going to the arcade at the Hudson Mall and was proud to say that I was #1 on the High Scores Leaderboards of at leat three of the games. I just don't understand why games bomb if they don't have some type of decent multiplayer. Does anyone honestly think that Red Dead Redemption would have sold as much or got the review scores it did without the multiplayer aspect? It's just sad!

I got it late, and was playing it around the time I got BF:BC2 and GOWIII, so I got distracted, and only played it for MP occasionally

@ karl lol I know what you mean.. My first play through yielded frustration during the radec fight.. It was actually my second play through on elite that forced me to adopt tactics.. I developed a good system to take radec down.. Instead of focusing on radec the whole time you have to kill off his entourage. I found out that if you kill all of the helghast it automatically intiates the sequence where the landing craft bursts through the wall and opens the path to go after radec.. I recommend saving the flamethrower till this point because when radec is chasing you if you hit him with the flame thrower he stops and writhes around allowing you time to lay into him.. Plus it helps you see him better when he cloaks.. It worked wonders for me.. Try it out and let me know if it works for you...

The storyline of the game is ok, but it just didn't grab me. The characters were really cliche, and I didn't give a rats ass if they were getting shot or whatever until I had to go pick that f'er up a hundred times a match because he doesn't know how to use cover. Played the multiplayer, that didn't hold my attention for too long either. I just can't get into that games universe.

One thing I wish for Killzone 3 is that they fix the damn camera! I never understood why you have to have the camera right on the gun while not shooting. In a FIRST PERSON shooter, the camera should be where the characters eyes would be, not their friggin gun. Who the f%$# runs around with their head at waist level? I imagine that would look pretty funny.

Matter of fact, I think I would still play KZ2, if the camera height was changed. It bothered me that much. I mean, does it even qualify as a FPS? Isn't it more of a GPS (Gun Position Shooter)? I dunno, but I hated it.

Game had great graphics, but too many little things here and there just irked me enough to not return to it again and again like MW, BFBC2, and Halo. The most beautiful game in the world would still need to be done right control wise, camera wise, and FUN wise (fun is subjective).

I feel very similar. I liked the SP as I like any other FPS campaign. I didn't really care for the story though. I feel that the potential for the universe of Killzone wasn't achieved because the story was so thin and typical. Bonehead characters like Rico really ruined the story from ever feeling special. It's something to aim for in Killzone 3 since they promise a more human Helghast and a properly written dialogue.

The height thing was definitely annoying lol. The game had a good enough diversity of missions to keep it enjoyable, but K3 really needs to pump up the character development, story, and settings (can't wait for jungle)

When it came to MP I ultimately went back to CoD4 because Killzone is just too dependent on classes. And when you consider the unforgivable omission of a party system in such a team-reliant game you begin to get frustrated playing with strangers who can't throw a tactical spawn grenade properly or who fail to heal you properly.

Killzone's MP had way too many issues for me, the SP I liked well enough.

i don't care about FPS, but i still bought Resistance 1&2 (to support Insomniac work on Ratchet, and that support probably went byebye. no more Ratchet) and KZ2 (to see graphics). none of those were not finished more than 2-3 levels into the game. games like Halo, CoD, HL, MoH, BBC... can exists, i don't even care if i see them or not. i don't have any wish to play or see them and also have no incentive to buy.

there is only one FPR(not shooter, runner) game i care about and still play... Mirrors Edge. Finished it at least 5 times and god knows how many speed runs. Not to mention Demon's souls which i finished at least 50 times now

i barely touched the MP though (i was in the beta, and loved it, but by the time the game hit, i sort of had my fill of MP, and just wanted to enjoy the SP. which i did).

Killzone 2 had a fantastic SP campaign. the only negative i have is that it didn't have the variety of the original.

if only Killzone 3 came with an HD remake of the original Killzone, running at a locked framerate, with graphical issues like pop-in removed, on the same BR disc.

Killzone was such an underappreciated game, because overzealous gaming magazines were constantly declaring it the "Halo Killer," building up unrealistic expectations. Guerrilla Games nor Sony ever called the game a "Halo Killer." i know this, because i followed the game since it's announcement, and even HAD the Official PlayStation magazine where the cover boasted: "Killzone: The Halo Killer?"

funnily enough, Killzone was gritty, weighty, and more realistic than Halo, much like current gen shooters. it was a bit ahead of it's time. even the CoD series of the previous generation lacked that feel to it.

Killzone 2 is still one of the showpiece games of the PlayStation 3. i completed the campaign TWICE, actually. i enjoy replaying my games, especially technically masterful games like KZ2 and Uncharted, so i can soak up every detail. the environments in KZ2 have some amazing details that i think GG would appreciate that some of us took the time to admire.

Killzone 3 looks amazing so far. i'm looking forward to it. my 2011 buy list is just as packed as my 2010 list. even more so, actually, due to recent game delays.

i much prefer Killzone 1 to Killzone 2 to be honest. it had 'weighty' controls without the input lag. it had variety. it had better level design. its story was better. i loved playing as the different characters too.

but having said all that, it was technically a pretty bad game overall. probably a 6.5-7/10 in my books. that didnt stop me enjoying the hell out of it though. the worst thing about it, worse than all the annoying graphical glitches (of which there were many) was the AI. right up there with the worst AI ive ever seen in any game. they were literally as smart as a ball rolling down a hill. i remember one occasion about 3 helghast came running out of a doorway, and 1 by 1 they all ran directly into the corner of a building, and just stood there running on the spot. even when i stood right next to them, they just kept running on the spot lol.

im actually looking forward to Killzone 3 now that theyve confirmed theres no input lag. i was 100% prepared and willing to skip it if there was input lag like killzone 2. i just hope its more than boring snow levels and corridor shooting.

oh and on topic, i completed Killzone 2 the day after i got it. was pretty darn short too, like 6-7 hours on normal, so people must have really gotten bored/frustrated quickly to not finish it.

I tend to not complete a lot of my games, some i have just hated and others i have liked the online play far more than single player so plough hours and hours into that without completing the single player story or collecting many trophies or achievements.

I know Killzone2 i really enjoyed but i played about 2 hours of single player and about a month and a half of playing it online almost every day.

Uncharted2 i completed but that was it again i spent the majority of my time online.

Even on the PS2 i spent about 2 years of my life playing Socom2 and only completed the single player story 1 time.

All gamers are different, just because someone doesnt complete single player doesnt make them less of a gamer, i can see why some people obsess over completing it and others just dont bother.

Maybe for you KZ2 was great and a much better game than Re5. An maybe RE5 wasn't a good game. But in my opinion it held my interest better than KZ2. Any game you have to force yourself to play and finish. Isn't all that great. Rico was annoying, the story was corny straight out of some B rated movie, the weapons was limited,the game play was linar, and the controls sucked. So I don't see what's your problem that I made a better choice for me. By getting rid if a game I found not worth the purchase.

The only reason I brought the game in the first place was because the guy at gamestop kept hyping it up. Then when I brought it back 3 days later and voiced my disgust of him hyping the game just to make a sell. He apologized and explained to me he hadn't played it and I wasn't the only one to get rid of it after a short time of owning it.

This is weird considering I'm a neophyte with FPS games. The Radec battle is pretty epic. However, after many, many attempts a player of reasonable intelligence should begin to anticipate what comes next, what weapon to use and when. With some acquired skill (after how many hours of play?) any player should be able to off Radec no matter where he suddenly appears. I just couldn't see coming that far and then shelving the game.

I nearly gave up on Radec but as with every game I nearly quit on, I don't. If I've put the effort into a game I see it through normally unless it bores me or turns me off from the first hours of playing it.
We use Naughty Bear here as an example.

I always say to friends who struggle with games that every game is made of code with rules, boundaries, tactics and methods. Its just a case of working them out rather than mindless attacking.

I personally feel this latest generation of games has gotten too easy to beat. I like a good boss battle, and Radec was no exception. I love multiplayer as much as the next guy but it seems this younger generation of gamers will either skip the single player part in games completely or play it until they come to a difficult part and then just give up or lose interest. I'm not saying all do that but that it seems to be becoming a trend. Many on my friends list either never touched the KZ2 single player at all, only played the first level, or gave up on the last level. I find it really strange that none stopped midway through the campaign and only one beat the game besides me the rest fall into the other categories.

Got pretty far but the controls killed it for me. I just couldn't get used to them. The story and characters did nothing for me either so I wasn't motivated to complete it. I sold it a while back but I heard they released a patch that "fixed" the controls. Never got to try those out but I wonder if it would of helped.

Killzone on the PS2 was a far superior game, very fun and great replay value as you could play the campaign with 4 different characters plus the story had meaning start to end and every level made the game more interesting.

I completed Killzone 2 but found the story boring at Best, it did not entice me in anyway to play it and only the last level had connections to the first game.
The gameplay was also slow, the only fun parts with in the tank and the airship. The best level and most fun level was the one inside the exoskeleton.

I found myself playing Killzone 2 just for trophies how sad :(

Not getting Killzone 3 just looks like more Killzone 2.
If they remaked Killzone I would get that in a heartbeat but only if the story and gameplay was the same

Killzone 2 is a decent game but nothing really special outside of it's graphics and honestly ... the art design wasn't that good. The graphics were great only on a technical level, nothing more.

And yes I beat the game on hard. Radec was the only real challenge on hard mode. The rest of the challenge came from the horrible guns that did little to no damage and has zero accuracy whether you burst them or not.

Resistance 2 is the far better exclusive shooter on the PS3.

..... Killzone 2... The story/characters/and atmosphere just didn't hook and reel me in. It was my first game for my PS3 along with MGS4, and I MUCH preferred MGS4 by a million miles over Killzone 2 any day of the week. There was no comparison between me beating the living shit out of MGS4 over getting bored of and leaving KZ2 in the dust. The game looks visually impressive and it's multiplayer can be quite enjoyable with some friends, but the story is mediocre and no different from any other FPS out there.

I finished the game twice but no where near got all the trophies. I enjoyed the game it was a good solid shooter maybe not revolutionary but certainly a good frag fest. GG are one of my top developers because they do care about opinion and now they have feedback I can't wait to see what is going to be in the third installment. From the previews so far, it is meant to be a more refined experience but if you hate KZ2 then you may not like the third one.

I hadn't played many FPS when I got KillZone 2, it was perhaps my 3rd ever FPS game (first was MOH: Rising Sun, and the second: The Orange Box). So I found it pretty good, fairly decent story but it just didn't progress much, it was pretty cool when Radec and the Helghast stormed the ISA fleet and that dude with the long hair got killed... but that's about the only story changing event that happened.

Also: I don't think it's worth lieing: I suck at FPS games and played it on normal, I found the difficulty just right.
