SNES (snes9x) Emulator Ported to PS3

"A user on github named eiz has released a early PS3 port of snes9x, the Super Nintendo emulator. We’ve tested the emulator and at least on the game we tried the emulator is working very good. Speed seemed to be 100%, controls, sound implemented etc. The sound was a bit staticy and low quality, but this is a work in progress. This project is open source so the author is inviting others to improve the foundation he has laid."

Is nothing new this Emulation, but it was possible on Linux on PS3. You can even emulate N64 Virtual Games on PS3 with Linux without piracy like PS Groove.

liveActionLeveler4965d ago (Edited 4965d ago )

first they got the psp games runnin on it now this, next it's prbly gonna be wii emulation with move controls!

... It's just a matter of time until they get Xbox 360 ISOs running on the PS3 which will no doubt blow all of our F**king minds away.. And Sony will be pissed & release PS3 firmwares all over the damn place lol

You guys definately know that it's possible it may happen.. And I personally can see it coming, for better, or for worse. :D

Chuk54965d ago

Sony would have to squash that super quick, or they could be facing a bankrupting microsoft lawsuit.

sashimi4965d ago (Edited 4965d ago )

How could M$ sue Sony over something Hackers are doing... and i doubt any law suit can bankrupt Sony.I don't see Lawsuits filed @ Apple...yet for those emulators running on those itouch/phones/mac.

Chuk54965d ago

Ya but this is a current gen system. It's one thing to run 8-32 bit era emulators but the 360 is a whole nether thing all together.

LightofDarkness4965d ago

No, it won't. Emulation works by interpreting (and dynamically recompiling) machine code so that the host system can understand it. This can be an incredible strain on the CPU, depending on how well the emulator is coded, how accurate the emulation is and how much of a gap there is between the power of the system being emulated and the system running the emulator.

The PS3 and 360 are, contrary to popular belief around here, very similar in terms of power, but very dissimilar in terms of processing and operation in general. Even if some miracle worker managed to streamline things so much with the cell, the GPUs are too close in power to imagine an amateur coder making it run anywhere NEAR full speed.

Which leads me to believe you either know very little about emulation or you're trying to incite something.

siyrobbo4965d ago

no way the ps3 would be powerful enough to emulate 360 games

gaffyh4965d ago

I seriously doubt it, the only reason PSP emulation may work, is most likely Sony already has that functionality in the PS3 firmware. That is probably how all the PSP minis work on PS3 as well, and it is very unlikely that a PSP emulator would be released for PS3 when the PC version of it is very inadequate.

The same is the case with the 360, while it may be possible from a technical standpoint, it's very unlikely because there are major issues because usually emulators require 3 times the power of the original system, and I don't think the PS3 can handle that. It may be able to handle 3 times the processor power (just about), but it's graphics card is weaker than the 360's (this is a known fact, it does not mean that games cannot look better on PS3) meaning graphics emulation is pretty much impossible. Also, there is not even the slightest hint of a 360 emulator on PC, meaning whoever made it, would have to start from scratch.

It is actually more likely that we could see a Wii and Gamecube emulator, because the Dolphin emulator is well-progressed on the PC, and it would be a matter of porting it. How they would map IR controls to camera tracking though, I have no clue.

raztad4965d ago (Edited 4965d ago )

I dont know how can you get disagrees in that thoughtful comment.

PSP games work because the needed software layer IS there to begin with. Hackers just enabled it.

The PS3 is substantially more powerful than the xbox, IMO, but it is not powerful enough to run its games w/o proper recoding/recompiling. That would require an insane amount of power. Hell, I doubt the highest end PC available can run xbox360 games off pure emulation.

Chuk54965d ago

honestly, if it's not pro sony, it will disagrees. No mater how well put together and valid, like the gentlemen atop, is. People seem to think the graphical gap between the ps3 and 360 is as big as the xbox1 and ps2. It's not.

Thats what these guys should be working on 360 isos on ps3. Who the fuck wants to play old roms on the ps3?? the ps2 and pc can already do that... If they could get 360 isos running on the ps3, now that be news worthy.

They tried to turn it into Call of Duty and it killed it off. They should reboot it and go back to it's roots. But they'd ruin it with online-only/multiplayer style bullshit so why bother? I have very fond memories of these games, but this series can stay dead as far as I'm concerned.

FPS_D3TH20h ago

Was literally just thinking of this game the other week with the secret nut cracker mission and the shooting Bismarck dog lmao. Loved these games as a kid

I wish they’d remake warfighter

Strictly for the campaign

I have fond memories of playing the Medal of Honor Breakthrough MP Demo. It had two maps and custom servers. Living on campus, I had it downloaded on one of the PC Lab servers so I could access it on any computer at the university. Joined a clan and made friends that I still keep in touch with today.
