Xbox 360’s First Mouse Controller Revealed

Despite Microsoft’s insistence that the Xbox 360 did not require a mouse controller, and that none should be made available, this week’s Tokyo Game Show (TGS) heralded some unexpected news. Not only has a mouse controller been developed for the console, but it’s also shipping to retail globally as you read this.

Personally, I can't wait to use this for RTS games. Maybe it might work with some arcade games that have been ported from the PC.

While you're correct about mouse/kb vs controller, problem is that console games aren't designed to use a keyboard and mouse, so you can't just switch to them on a console and expect it to perform like on a PC. The code to interpret analog sticks is very different from mouse input, so you'll end up with very awkward feeling mouse movements. That's why splitfish and other designs never worked out well.

Any way recent information released and actually in my avatar shows that PS3 has the lowest user base in the 18+ area. Both 360 and Wii dominate PS3 when it comes to the amount of adults that own one and play it as well.

RTS: Again, point for you. I don't remember any full exclusive RTS on PS3, although there are some on PSN, like Mushroom Wars, there is also lots of turn based stuff, but nothing comparable to RUSE or Civilization Revolution.

Microsoft makes some pretty nice mouses. Love my Comfort Optical Mouse 3000. Feels great. Don't see why they haven't looked into one for the 360.

Xim360 is overpriced with more 100 dollars.

In PS3 Eagle Eye only cost around 60 Dollars and works with any Keyboard and Mouse or Mouse and a Stick to replace the Keyboard wich is Frag FX hardware.

You think the mouse will make a shitty player better?? There is aim assist or what ever the game studio calls it, in most console games anyways. It's been out for a year "A cross-platform PlayStation 3 and PC version of the device has been available for over a year." So Microshit let this in... what ever. Have fun :D

I've had one of these XScorches for months now, this is old news it's already available for purchase online, I know 7summitz.com sells them, it works really well for BFBC2 and Halo Reach etc but it takes a LOT of messing around with configuring ot get it right, it will never feel 100% like PC mouse but its close and sure as hell a lot more accurate than using stupid analog sticks. I love my scorch's, I have two for when I got a buddy playing on the same screen with me like in borderlands. Just look at the scorch and Fragnstein at bannco.com

ps3s products look pretty plain and boring whereas 360s product designs always try really hard to look cool and it just ends up looking super childish. sometimes i wish sonys products were a little less tame but id rather have that classy look you get with a sony product over the weirdly shaped/over-the-top designs you get with the 360.

Not exactly. Any game would have to still be made with a controller in mind, if they were to be released on a console. Because, you can't guarantee that every person who would be playing it on a console would have a mouse. They could require it, I suppose, but that could limit their sales base and defeat the purpose of going multi-platform.

I guess the mouse will be good for people who have no real skill in aiming, since the mouse hardly requires any skill what so ever. (due to its high precision). Playing an FPS with a mouse, feels like I'm playing the game on EASY.
