Upcoming Titles that Could Steal Game of the Year

Joe Garcia writes: "The year came to a roaring start when Mass Effect 2 released in January, the dark second chapter that made every possible gameplay improvement over the already-stellar original. God of War III took no prisoners when it released in March, with its tried-and-true action gameplay and jaw-dropping sense of scale. And in May, Rockstar released Red Dead Redemption, an Old West tale on par with some of the best spaghetti westerns ... and hunting bears and cougars didn't hurt, either."

That depends what the writer of this article means by "stealing" GOTY. I mean I would consider LBP2, Fallout: NV, GT5. AC: Brotherhood, and Halo Reach big contenders for GOTY already.

iamnsuperman2966d ago

I hope LBP 2 would get it. Makes a change really and LBP2 seams a big step up from LBP

OneSneakyMofo2966d ago (Edited 2966d ago )

Game of the Year is subjective. Xbox 360 fanboys will say Halo Reach / Mass Effect 2 is GotY; PS3 fanboys will say Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, LittleBigPlanet 2, Heavy Rain; PC fanboys will say Starcraft 2.

Oops, this was meant for one of the persons below. I don't know how it ended up here, lol.

kaveti66162966d ago

I think LBP2 should get it as well, but the first LBP got it so it wouldn't be a big surprise or a big change.

Brewski0072965d ago

Dont really care too much for GOTY , but cannot wait to play Fallout NV and GT5. GOTY or not, they'll still be pure win ! ! :)

DERKADER2965d ago

When 30 different journalists and publications give out 30 different GOTY awards it kind of looses all of its meaning.

I think those all will be nominated, but I only see Halo Reach, LBP2, or Mass Effect 2 actually winning. Its really going to be a tough call with LBP2 coming out this year, because LBP2 is such an innovated, amazing game that no one else can even come close to. I'm excited to see who actually takes the crown though.

deadreckoning6662966d ago (Edited 2966d ago )

Hmm..so, who exactly determines who wins GOTY???

@iamnsuperman- Oh okay. So, lets assume that there are about, I don't know, 250 publicized video game critics that are assign GOTY awards. So does this mean that the opinions of 250 random people hold precedent over the MILLIONS of gamers that vote with their dollars?

I don't understand why people put so much stock in GOTY awards. Why the concern over what someone else thinks about a game? I choose my GOTY based on what I play and I'm personally not interested in Mass Effect 2 or LBP2..so for them to be my GOTY would be impossible. I'm VERY interested in Reach, but one game isn't worth the investment in a 360, seeing as how Reach is the only 360 exclusive I'm interested in.

iamnsuperman2966d ago (Edited 2966d ago )

Well there is like loads of GOTY awards so I assume who gets the most GOTY awards....

@deadreckoning666 that is the problem really with having a GOTY there are too many.....Sales mean squat really because a game could be over hyped loads buy on day one and it turns out to be not as good as other games (for example MW2)......

lovemyps32966d ago

GOD OF WAR 3 or MASS EFFECT 2.

rdgneoz32966d ago (Edited 2966d ago )

@iamnsuperman They have tons of awards for different categories, but its not whoever wins the most gets the GOTY award. They have people vote on all the categories, along with which game they think overall is the game of the year. They'll have hundreds of thousands of people voting so it won't just be 250 random people holding precedent over millions of gamers. As for winner, I think LBP2 with its ability to create games within a game as well as link levels from one to another and create worlds, as well as create music and the insane AI control you'll have might just take it. Reach, ME2, GT5, GOW III, and RDR will be up there, but I feel LBP2 is gonna be a lot more innovating than anything else that's out or coming out (though GT5's insane amount of cars, track editor and such will make it a close call).

DavePSU2966d ago

@Deadreckoning

If the amount of dollars determined what the best was...that would mean Avatar is unarguably the greatest movie ever made...but is it really?

RememberThe3572966d ago

greatest of all time comes down to personal preference.

But to Deads point, I think iamnsuperman hit the nail on the head. The game that gets the most game of the year award gets GOTY. But that doesn't mean that we all can't have our own GOTY's.

blackmagic2966d ago

Almost every site has it's own goty list but to me, it's the game critics awards goty that is the most prestigious. The judges come from 31 major gaming publications and all vote on the various categories.

DeadIIIRed2965d ago

Actually *fixes accounting glasses* if you take inflation into consideration then Gone With the Wind is still numero uno. I could care less though about either film, but I get your point. Citizen Kane tops most personal preference lists, but I fall asleep even hearing that name. They just need a GOTY award for each console.

Lmao out of those CGI images God of War 3 stands out with In-game image. I couldn't get more impressed by GOW3. Halo Reach should be the biggest fail in history same bs gfx and greeny everywhere.

kaveti66162966d ago (Edited 2966d ago )

That Gran Turismo 5 image wasn't CGI.

And Halo Reach has 4 times the number of polygons has Halo 3 did. There are more polygons in a Reach gun model than in a UNSC marine from Halo 3. As for greeny, that's the art style. Like it or not, it doesn't determine whether the game is a fail.

No Way2966d ago

Have you even watched videos on Halo Reach, or just blind hate?

The game has improved over past installments in so many ways.
The "gfx," or graphics, are times and times better than Halo 3.
And, iduno what you mean by "greeny everywhere" but, no, too.
There's a large more amount of scenery this time around.

awiseman2965d ago

Sounds like someones is uunhappy that Reach actually has some good fx (notice i said fx not graphx)

Halo reach also has more ai on screen than any game on any console has ever had before. And before ps3 fanboys start saying heavenly sword let me stop you there cuz the enemies in there were duplicats and mirrors and not true ai enemies.

GOW3 has some amazing graphix tho no denying it.

Trebius2965d ago

You dont know for a fact if they have more enemies on screen than any other game ... you're just believing what they spoonfeed you. Cause youre a sheep. Nothing anyone says will change your mind, so all i'll say is "Bahhh, Bahhhh, Bahhh!" Did you understand? I know you did. :)

inFamous 2, LBP 2, Killzone 3, Portal 2. Those are my GOTYs for 2011/2010.

Totally off topic......But wow.

http://videogames.yahoo.com...

MOTION CONTROLLERS that didn't work.....
Going by the logic that the power pad is a motion controller is the equivalent of saying a regular 360 controller is a motion controller because you move your fingers to use it. ~_~
Just saying.

N4PS3Fanboys2966d ago

Mass Effect 2, Halo: Reach, Fable III, and Gears of War 3; Those are my GOTYs for 2010/2011.

awiseman2965d ago

Nice name though it hits the mark

BannedForNineYears2965d ago

I'm not a fanboy, I listed a multiplatform game.
And I only listed games coming out in the future.
GodOW 3 already won GOTY for this year. ~_~

SexyPrawns2966d ago

LBP2 will win the most.

My personal GOTY is Heavy Rain, so far.

Followed by God of War 3.

As much as I loved ME2, it dragged on at parts.

DavePSU2966d ago

Yeah, my money is on LBP2 as well. So long as titles based on innovation continue to turn heads, more and more developers will be willing to take risks.
