Why 2010 was the Best Year Ever to Be an Xbox Fan

AC: How Microsoft Made the Xbox 10 Times Better in 2010.

2010 was a great year for gaming in general and brought about 3D gaming, motion control madness, console remakes, and a bunch more, but it was an exceptionally great year to be an Xbox fan and I'll explain why.

Quote from the article: "Microsoft starting off 2010 by dazzling its fans with the Xbox Kinect - formerly Project Natal. Nintendo had already brought motion controlled gaming to the world and Sony was introducing a motioned controller as well, but no one was prepared for what Microsoft had in the works. The Xbox Kinect shocked the world by being the first gaming peripheral that made gaming possible without some controller of some sort."

Huh?! Didn't the EyeToy and PS Eye already do that years ago? I fail to see why the Kinect is being described as some kind of innovative product. And "dazzling its fans"? Wow, if you mean disappointed that all the games and focus is on the casual market, then, ya MS is certainly "dazzling its fans". I think they would have been more dazzled if MS would taken the cash spent on Kinect and put into buying more first party studios to produce more new IP's/exclusives.

lol I didn't know M$ was dazzling its fans with Kinect, guess M$ fans really want to dazzle with Kinect. 2010 is a bad year for Xbox fans, I would say 2007 would be better. XBL price hike doesn't help much for 2010.

Got to agree with you there. 2010 from MS: 1) lack of new exclusives shown at E3, Gamescom and the coming TGS, 2) over-focus on Kinect and the casual market, 3) increasing XBL subscription price despite earning $1.6 billion off of the service in the last 12 months with a 65% profit margin. Yep, got to agree that this wasn't the best year for the author to pick. 2007, 2008 or 2009 would have been a better choice.

To the 360 fans disagreeing. Please tell me how you are being "dazzled" with the Kinect and not disappointed with the direction that MS is going: spending large amounts of cash on Kinect (plus its soon to come large marketing campaign) in a vain attempt to capture the casual audience. Wouldn't you rather see that money spent on acquiring new first party studios and producing new IP's/exclusives? Seriously, you like this strategy? Wow, and I thought you guys were core gamers. Guess I was wrong.

2007 was the best year for the xbox. Gears was just lanched at the end of 06, and cod 4 and halo 3 were released in 07. So def 2007 for me.

This same guy wrote piece defending the XBL price hike recently, so finding out that he thinks Kinect is "dazzling" isn't all that surprising.

It is kinda funny that he'd go as far as to say controller-free gaming has never been done before Kinect. Indicative of how long he's been gaming. Plus I just don't know a single person, including friends who love their 360s, who are even remotely interested in Kinect, let alone "dazzled".

Kinect aside, it's been a good year for 360 in terms of games, especially after last year's slump and an average 2008. Whether it's better than 2007 is debatable.

Halo: Reach, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Alan Wake, Fable 3, and the Slim are the only good things that will happen for me as an Xbox fan this year. M$ really didn't do all that could've been done this year, and ALL of their media showings besides X10, sucked majorly.

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.

Fallout 3's Reveal Led To Death Threats And Bethesda's First Security Guard

The artist behind Fallout 4’s Deathclaw reveals just how bad things got back when Bethesda took over the series

anast18h ago

People are stupid I get it. No one should feel unsafe,

But I think they need to talk about why they cut so many corners during the development process and why none of their games ever look current. And why they think all of this is okay while they charge full price.

LucasRuinedChildhood18h ago

As much as Bethesda deserve criticism, that's not really relevant to the reveal of Fallout 3 in 2007.

VenomUK15h ago

The default angle Kotaku always go for is to highlight the worst in gaming.

I would’ve focused on the creative.

gold_drake14h ago

there is no "but". the hell lol
you dont send death threats, period.
