Do you have what it takes for Final Fantasy XIV on the PC ?

While Square-Enix blames the small amount of RAM for the delay of the PS3 version, the japanese retailer Frontier is now proposing a Final Fantasy XIV recommended machine that might blow your head off...

That's just being lazy.

"Keyboard Microsoft SideWinder Mouse X3 & X4"
What a piece of shit mouse and keyboard. My Logitech set kills this.

"Intel 3.33GHz Core i7-980X
Seven Windows Ultimate 64 bit
12 GB of RAM DDR3 triple channel
nVidia GeForce GTX480 with 1536 MB onboard
SSD 80 GB
Hard Disk 2 TB
Blu-ray Disc
Keyboard Microsoft SideWinder Mouse X3 & X4
Power 1000 Watts
Screen choice
Multi Card Reader"

I can build a system cheaper than what they offer. SSD is not even in RAID configuration. Got a 160 GB SSD on mine right now.

Bobbykotickrulesz5414d ago

12 GB of ram? What in the fuck... That is outrageously huge.

Substance1015414d ago

12GB is an overkill. I been on 6gb since the last 2 years, hasnt been an application yet which demands more ram.

TheIneffableBob5414d ago (Edited 5414d ago )

Professional software like 3D modeling apps and video editing make use of the RAM.

But 12GB for a game?! I'm having a hard time believing that this is true.

EDIT: Ohhhh, I see now. These specs, according to Square-Enix, are for the best possible experience with the game. I still don't see how 12GB of RAM would be beneficial to the game, though.

a08andan5414d ago (Edited 5414d ago )

The only time you would really need above 4-6Gb of RAM is if you do a lot of rendering in like Unreal Development Kit, mainly thinking of Lightning rendering here, or for videos etc. Didn't work very well at the university with their 4Gb of ram and ATI Radeon 3800 series graphicscard :P Not saying that more than 4Gb is useless in other areas though. RAM warranty normally last for a long time so its something that is easily upgraded :)

Funny part, this sensationalistic article was inspired... guess by who? Kotaku. Here's the original article by the oh so professional journalist Brian Ashcraft (why am i not surprised?)
http://kotaku.com/5625280/w...

Notice how he tried his hardest to make it saound like that's the recommended specs for the game?

Too bad that they're not :D That's just the advertisement of a PC made by a Japanese manufacturer with which SE has an advertising partnership. No more and no less like many western games have the "play best on Alienware" advertsement.

But it gets better. There are actually SEVERAL of such ads around the JApanese web, all with different configurations. Here are some:
http://www.dospara.co.jp/in...
http://www.g-tune.jp/gaming...
http://www.pc-koubou.jp/pc/...

As you can see there are several prices going around, starting from about 100000 yen, which is about 1100 dollars (with a configuration that would cost no more than 900 on newegg). MUCH cheaper than the one shown in this article or in the Kotaku one.
And ALL of them are "recommended" for Final Fantasy XIV :D

Wonder why Mr. Ashcraft chose, between them all, the most costly and powerful one?

Because he wanted a sensationalistic headline that has nothing to do with reality (as usual), to assist in the process of throwing the little credibility he (and Kotaku) had left into the toilet and flush it.

Reality is actually pretty simple. All those computers have nothing to do with the minimum or recommended specs to run FFXIV.
Since the game is expected to sell a lot of PCs in Japan, every PC manufacturer out there stroke a deal with SE in order to use FFXIV name and imagery to promote their PCs. Nothing more, nothing less. Article debunked.
Thanks Kotaku (and follower french site) for having shown once more that you don't hold a crumb of credibility and that you are the true scum of gaming journalism.
Kotaku and Sankaku Complex could pretty much be sister sites. The quality of reporting is the same.

Edit: lol at the disagrees. Sorry mates, whoever you are, I provided all the proof and links needed, so I rest my case, you must be trolls. I'm sure it infuriates you that the game is actually good and will be successful, so you rejoice at every article that tries to put a negative spin on it. But in the end your disagrees are inconsequential.

Xfanboy5414d ago

That's just being limited

Dark_Energy5415d ago

6 hours a week? No so fuck off.

Abriael5414d ago (Edited 5414d ago )

There's no hard cap to how much you can play the game or even to how much you can level up. There's just a soft cap that can easily be avoided.

Here's how it works.

Now go and troll no more.

guzman5414d ago

Thanks Abriael for clarifying your info is much appreciated. Don't let these lobotomized trolls get to you.

Ludakriss5414d ago

PLease...PLEAAAAAASE! Tell me, what in the fuck is TROLLING? I keep hearing this and it just sounds like a bad trend created by some World Of Wrcraft players or somethin.

Abriael5414d ago (Edited 5414d ago )

@guzman: Oh, it's no problem, I'm very much used to it. Some people just WANT this game to fail, because probably they see it as a threat to some favourite game of theirs, or maybe just becayse it's not on 360, who knows :D

Luckily it's a good game (not perfect, for the moment, but most certanly good), so it's going to perform quite well, despite the naysayers.

Ludakriss: that use of the word is actually much more ancient than wow: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

blasian5414d ago

Beta tomorrow with all cities cant wait!

Myst5414d ago

Sadly no D:

wait a minute 12 GB ram?! Jesus...

Kamikaze1355414d ago

That's part of the minimum requirement to run this game.

OneSneakyMofo5414d ago

I bet you 11GB of the RAM goes into your MMO character's hair.

*Woosh*

a08andan5414d ago

But.. But.. But.. Its all in the hair :( That's the most important feature of a game. It must have realistic hair or the game = crap.

Abriael5414d ago

Those have NOTHING to do with the requirements for the game. Read above.

Myst5414d ago

@Kamikaze - I hope that was sarcasm :p I can slightly detect it but not sure.

@Onesnake - LOL

@Abriael - Don't see why you got disagree when it's the truth. More than likely I'm assuming that's settings to run the game flawlessly?

Do you not see this happening during development? Like, why are we apologizing after the fact instead of stopping it during development?

Stopac2d ago

Criticism and reflection occur after the fact. The apology acknowledges the past criticisms with the new expansion and they're keeping transparency with players about it. Now that they've acknowledged it - it will be interesting to see what kind of cycle we'll get with a new expansion and I wonder if they're planning something special with beast master since they didn't mention it in the last live letter.

anast3d ago

It's all good, as long as the price of the product decreases.

Stopac2d ago

The base game and expansion go on sale all the time and doesn't stay full price for very long since a new expansion is on the horizon.

If you're stating they should reduce the price of new expansions or the sub fee, no, that's not gonna happen lmao people aren't even complaining about that. They are criticizing the same old pattern of content that releases and how it is devolving into mediocracy.

anast2d ago

"They are criticizing the same old pattern of content that releases and how it is devolving into mediocracy."

The product should be cheaper then.

PapaBop2d ago

I was unhappy with DT and have spent far less time in it than any other expansion but it's things like this that makes me respect Yoshi P. It's rare for such a high profile developer to be so candid in his assessment on a live game.

Stopac2d ago

Same, i've found my self resubbing every two patches instead of keeping it up. Don't own a home in the game so there's no point in keeping a constant sub going. The post story is getting interesting though.
