Gamingbolt.com analysis about the new Konami's multiplatform Gothic Epic, to be released October 5th --- is it really a GOW clone?
Very nice write up. Hopefully LoS will be worth the wait. As a fan of Castlevania, I am always apprehensive when a new gameplay formula is injected into the series. GOW is a great game, but elements from the franchise shouldn't exist in a Castlevania game.
This game has all the elements necessary for a game to succeed. Great Gameplay, Graphics, Cast, Story...This should be well worth the wait.
as far as I remember The castlevania games always had the Chain Whip Weapon. Giant boss battles been out before GoW. The monsters in CastleVania look nothing alike the ones in GoW. Hack and Slash WASNT invented by the people who did GoW. So why would the style be compared to GoW's? What about Ninja Gaiden? DMC? the GoW gotta calm down thinking the series Created a whole bunch of things while it aint.
amen.I'm pumped for Castlevania and a whole bunch of Games.
Dude... Look at the way he is using his weapon (the effects and swings)... It looks EXACTLY like GOW. Not like.. EXACTLY.
@xboxfanbaby Please don't cry, they are both great games.
How soon people forget. There was Castlevania: Lament of Innocents on the PS2 released during 2003 before there was a God of War, which was released during 2005. Castlevania Lament of Innocence trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watc... Many things God of War did from your double jump, special attacks like Zues' Fury, etc., Castlevania Lament of Innocence did first.
But...Castlevania: Lament of Innocents was pretty shitty and all around not fun, while GoW is the polar opposite of that. I don't see it as ripping off, but rather "hat tipping". In 2003 and now.
And then GOW ripped off devil may cry after that.
It's not just about doing it first, but doing it best. ;) The action RPG/hack and slash genre has been around for a while, God of War is just a really identifiable and "mainstream" series in contrast to other games in that genre so that's why it's used for comparisons IMO.
@ Action Basterd. The same could be said about Gears of War hat-tipping Killswitch. Killswitch is a mediocre game with the tps cover system being the best feature.
No, it didn't, just because they're both hack and slash games doesn't mean one ripped the other one off.
My point here is that often times when newer hack & slash games are presented, some people immediately call it a GoW ripoff. In actuality, these hack & slash elements and styles have always existed years before a GoW game was ever released.
-Off Topic- Is it me or do people spell "lose" loose? They're to very different word and meanings. -On topic- If it ends up being a good game, great! If not well, that's just how it is. GOW or not, Lord of Shadow will still have it's own story to tell.
Some people need to spend less time trolling gamer websites, when they can hardly spell and use correct English.
I bet Harmony of Despair will be the bigger success of the two, but if by chance this is the first great 3D castlvania. They better not ignore the demand for a full blown 2D castlevania on consoles. It's just starting to seem mean. Same with Metal Slug, maybe snk & konami can collaborate all their forgotten franchises into one multiplayer diablo clone to really throw us off...
Was this written by Konami's PR department? It's a tad too soon to say it'll be a benchmark title. And continually invoking Kojima does nothing for me. I don't want to watch a 20 minute cutscene that makes no sense in between every battle. Kojima is mind-numbingly overrated. I don't mistake absolute gobbledygook for "complex storytelling". There, I said it and I'd say it again.
It couldn't have be written by Konami's PR departament, because they wouldn't mistake Kojima as the producer lol LOS' producer is Dave Cox who was assistant producer in the western version of Symphony of the Night, and the director is Enric Alvarez who wrote the promising but ultimately flawed Scrappland. That story was very good if I remember well. Kojima is a executive producer and adiso though, this game has to bee good for him to slap his company's name on it ;)
Double post :P
it can be both...
It's more of a Dante's Inferno clone than a God of War clone. It also doesn't help that this is the same team that made Clive Barker's Jericho.
It has been in development for 2.8 years now, a lot before DI (the plot is similar... but it's almost the same base plot in every CV game for 26 YEARS NOW!); and, what's wrong about the team? Wasn't that the concern we had with Arkham Asylum lst year? "It will suck because the team has only made one game and it sucked...". Sometimes is more about how deep a publisher interferes with design aspects, than the issues with the team itself.
I stopped reading as soon as they claimed that Kojima is developing the game.
"Later 3D games like Castlevania Chronicles, and the *horrendous PSP Castlevania titles only made it worse.* " Yeah, remake of Rondo of Blood with Castlevania Symphony of the Night thrown in for shits and giggles was a horrible, horrible game. Eat a fucking dick and do your research next time so you actually look like you know what you're talking about next time you write an article. Moron.
Yeah, research was pretty bad in there, however they got the point, the game looks good no matter what it resembles, and have lots of potential
This game is looking good
I'm hoping for something good from this game but I really hope that classic castlevania feel is still there. Its sad when games lose their individuality and unique style just to appeal to the masses.
That depends of your point of view of "Classic" Castlevania. If you are talking about classic classic, the old school Saga, Lods of Shadow is a love letter to the old Saga, everything, the chain whip, the armor the medieval western aesthethics, the atmospheric music... http://www.youtube.com/watc... If you are talking about "Symphony of the night-Classic" type of CV, it's not that much, however there are obviously cool elements, as backtracking, stylish combat and rennaisentic (?) aesthetics. Don't forget it also has SOTN characters as Olrox and latter ones as Brauner, Cornell and others are promised!
After having played a big chunk of the game it is a total rip off, the horse riding mini section, the whip now acting like a chain, the climbing the overall dynamics its literally a reskinned god of war 2 its actually worse than DI simply because least that knew what it was this is a disgrace to the castlevania brand not because its a bad game because it lacks any form of Originality whatsoever.
This is the 7th correct generation of gaming, somehow i think a very large number of games don't have an original idea in the entire game period. "the whip now acting like a chain" Now didn't it specify on castlevania 2 simon's quest, one of the whip upgrades was a "chain whip". So the game isn't a bad game, it's "a disgrace to the castlevania brand not because its a bad game because it lacks any form of Originality whatsoever." Wow you want a 25 yr old franchise to be original or have new original ideas, so how often are original ideas worth a damn, not always.
Given that God of War was essentially a 'Devil May Cry' clone which itself was a derivative of Onimusha....who the hell cares? Copying a copy is no sin.
How the fuck was GOW a DMC clone?
ohhhh another stupid mega post , leave the damn Castlevania alone
Hey I only the superior version of a game in each genre, cause playing more than one game of the same type is blasphemy.
I think it won't be at GOW levels but most definitely will be better than Dante¡s inferno.
I don't necessarily think its a ripoff, but it does look like it plays exactly like god of war. But I don't have a problem with that. God of war was a great game and to have something similar is welcomed.
i smell fanboys here lol
